Review: I was difficult to decide exactly which of the choices for "nature of complaint" to choose since there were two or more problems with this business. I had left a deposit of $250 for 2 end tables on 11-14-2015. On 11-17-2015 I decided that I needed a cocktail table also however I discovered that the one that went with those particular end tables was too big for the designated area in our small room. I asked [redacted] if I could change my order and try to find a set of 3 tables that would all fit in the room. I was told by this particular person that I would be contacted by "him" the following day to find out if this could be done. I was not contacted so at the end of my work day I went to the store and chose a set of 3 tables that was on sale for $209. At that time I was told that I would owe a restocking fee of $66 and a "shipping fee" of $157 for an additional total of $223.50. This would bring the total of 3 tables that would have cost $209 to $447.64 with tax! I ordered the new tables because I really wanted them for this guest room for Thanksgiving. I was told that they would be in on either 11-20-15 or 11-23-15. As of today 11-25-15 they are still not in and I was told when I called that they may be in on 11-27-15. When I referred to the invoice which states "If the merchandise ordered by you is not delivered by the promised date, J & D Furniture must offer you a choice of cancelling your order with a prompt, full refund of any payments made or accepting deliveray at a specific date" I was told "You can get the furniture when it comes in". More than anything I believe all of this is a scam to make money and that these are all very poor and inconsistent business practices.Desired Settlement: I would like to pay the $209 plus tax that the 3 new tables were advertised for and to receive a refund of the balance. I would also like a more definitive date of arrival.

Response:

The customer [redacted] came in here and we took good care of her. We spent over an hour helping her pick the tables she wanted. She gave a deposit and we ordered the tables. They were already loaded on the truck when she decided she wanted to switch to different tables. She was notified that we could not cancel the order, we called the company while she was here to see if it was possible to take them off the truck and told Ms [redacted] we would have to get back to her when they let us know if it was possible or not. The gentlemen called the store and let us know that he was able to remove them from the truck but that we would be getting charged a restocking fee. Which we informed Ms [redacted] of and she said it was okay, she also offered to take an end table she did not want or need as a result of being able to not make up her mind. She returned to the store and spoke to a new sales person not letting them know that she had already put in an order with a different salesperson. Had the new sales person look up the tables to see if we could get them in and [redacted] seen Ms [redacted] back so the new sales person directed Ms [redacted] back to [redacted] so [redacted] could give her the pricing along with the restocking fee. Ms. [redacted] paid and had no issue with the price or restocking fee. After paying, and leaving the store she called and started complaining about seeing the furniture on line for a different price. We explained to her that the price on line does not include shipping and tax. We also told her the tables should be in by Thanksgiving but we do not make promises. We let her know that it usually takes 7-10 business days from the time of purchase to receive the merchandise in to the store. This was now going by her new order date and not the date of the original order that she canceled.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: Some of the facts have been twisted by the business. I was not taken "good care of" but was pushed into making a decision. The salesperson ([redacted]) asked me every few minutes if I had made up my mind. I tend to be a very cautious shopper however I felt pressed to make a decsion as if I was wasting her time. As far as taking over an hour this is totally innacurate since I was hardly there that long. I could continue to pick apart all of the inaccuracies in this version of the event however what is most important is that the shipping fee was never itemized on the invoice. I don't even know what the exact shipping fee was since she must have added it to the price of the tables. I did not argue the restocking fee since I had changed my mind about the original tables however felt that the shipping fee was never advertised. I tried to explain to [redacted] that I did not get a price from an online advertisement but from an in store ad which did not state a shipping fee anywhere either. She was very unwilling to even listen to my issue and that is why I have submitted my complaint to the Revdex.com in NJ. I have never experienced a furniture store charging a shipping fee upon delivery to the store! I have paid delivery fees to my home but not if I was picking up the furniture myself obviously.
