Review: J & J Construction replaced the roof on my one story house in [redacted], after hurricane Ike. In [redacted], I noticed a ceiling leak in a spare bedroom. Since it only leaked when it rained, I ruled out a pipe leak. I contacted my insurance to send an adjuster. The adjuster stated that the roof leak was not caused by wind damage so they couldnt cover it. Upon further inspection the adjuster noticed, in several areas throughout the roof, the minimum number of nails was not used for each shingle and the minimum amount of tar was not used for each shingle. Following is an excerpt insurance adjuster: [redacted]: During my inspection, I observed water damage and mold on the ceiling and wall of a bedroom. Above this area, there was rot to the framing of the home under the roof and caulking where the roof meets the home. There was wear and tear to the roof in the form of nails coming up from the shingles and vents. I also observed several areas around the roof where there was only one nail in the shingle and little to no tar on the shingles. I left several messages to the owner of J & J Construction after the adjuster finished her assessment. He contacted me two days later. He finally showed up at my home, in the middle of [redacted], two weeks after our initial contact. He took a bucket of tar on the roof, applied it and was done within 30 minutes. He stated this should take care of it. I decided not to get the ceiling repaired until I knew for sure it was fixed. Needless to say, when the next thunderstorm arrived the ceiling was leaking again. From [redacted] through [redacted], I have left phone messages, sent text messages and even photos of the damage but to no avail. Another ceiling leak started two weeks ago in my kitchen. I am also concerned with the amount of mold which may be building up in my home as a result of the roof leaks because this creates a health hazard for my family. Today is [redacted], and the owner still has not contacted me.Desired Settlement: I would like the entire roof to be replaced. Inadequate material was used to replace my roof in [redacted] and now I have to deal with the results of poor workmanship. Another leak can turn up at any time. J & J Construction states: Our work is guaranteed from leaks for 10 years. This is taken directly from the invoice I received.

Review: Contracted J & J to remove tile, smooth concrete, then paint concrete. [redacted] told me it would be a very nice finished look that would not hold water. The result is extremely bad. Chunks missing poor finish and still holds water. Also contractor kept $850 in form of refund and pre-paid himself with it. Work still not done and will not take calls. Per contract work was to be completed by 4-18-14.Desired Settlement: A $500.00 refund and never come near me again. I will hire someone else to finish it. I request that the company deal only with the Revdex.com.

Review: I paid $6000 for J&J to put a new roof on my home, new shingles on the front and back porch and later they agreed to do the clean up as well if I paid the 3rd and final payment in advance as they were not paid on a previous job and needed the money to buy the remaining materials. The contract was for $5940 and I paid the first 2 installments of $2000 before they started on 9/5/2012 and about a week later. The 3rd installment was paid in mid September prior to the work being finalized. A few days after my final payment they stopped work and have only completed about 3 hours of work since..that was in early December after roughly 40 phone calls to Jerry and his son [redacted] has not returned a single phone call, but Jerry has and has promised roughly 20 times to finish the work. I have made roughly 80-100 phone calls since mid September 2012 and the work has not been completed and my yard/home still look like a construction site 8 months after the final payment. I left a message for Jerry that I may have to get an attorney involved if the work wasnt completed by 5/3/13. I recieved a note on 5/1/13 on my door that they would be back 5/2/13, but they still have not. I'm not sure what else to do and could use your help.Desired Settlement: I would like my final $2000 back to pay another company to finish the work that J & J Construction refuse to do, even though[redacted] insists he has never not finished a job. I would also like back an additional $2000 for having to call 80-100 times with no resolution, having my yard/home look like a construction site for 8 1/2 months now and the embarassment that goes along with it and inconvience. I would settle for the work being completed immediately, but I don't want to talk to them.

Review: [redacted] from J & J Construction was hired to add a garage onto our existing houseHe was very confident and had no issues with the projectHe asked for $dollars to get startedWe gave this to him in $cash and $check (number [redacted] on 9/19/12)The next day he had an excavator come to dig footingsHe asked us to pay for that because he claimed to not have cashed our check yet, not mentioning the cash we had given himWe wrote a check and paid excavator, but later [redacted] claimed he paid for itAfter the trench was dug for footings [redacted] set weak for the footings then left the project for approximately five days, even though I warned him repeatedly that the trench would fill in with water[redacted] has a high water table but [redacted] didn't want to hear anything I had to tell himI was very unhappy with [redacted] and his work ethic and was not confident was his ability to finish the job properlyHis ability to smooth talk us turned out to be superior to his construction abilityWhen the trench had approximately feet of water in it we rented pumps and shoveled out the mudWe decided we no longer wanted [redacted] to work on our projectHe was not happy but said he would refund our moneyInitially he told us he'd have the money in weeks when he finished another job but has continually ignored or made more claims of when he'd pay usThis has been an ongoing stress for our family since October He even told us again today (1/18/13) that we were his top priority and that he would pay us after his tax return is receivedHe has continually got our hopes up only to disappoint us again and againDue to going over budget and running out of money from last minute hiring of replacement contractors, the project is still not complete and we just want our money returned so we can finish our garage.Desired Settlement: Despite the fact that we ended up spending much more to fix the work that was done and to hire people on short notice, we only want the money returned that was paid as initial payment, $

Response:
When I went and met with the [redacted]'s they were very eager to get their project goingI was going to meet with them to strictly give them a bid to build their garage as they knew my fianceAfter talking with them, [redacted]'s wife was not thrilled that they were having her ex do the concrete work as he was not a licensed contractor and they didn't get along wellOnce she found out that I also do concrete work, she asked that I give them a bid as she did not want her ex to do the work for themI gave them a bid to begin for the concrete work and building the garage for themFrom here they decided they wanted me to do the project for themThey also had a family friend who was going to be doing their excavating workThey became frustrated with him as he wouldn't give them a start date to begin their project and told them that it could be several weeksSo, talking with the [redacted]'s once again I told them that we could get someone else out to the site to build the footings to get the project started-they were very eager to get this garage built before winter cameThey gave me the go ahead to start the entire projectWe got someone else out to build the footings-yes, I knew that it was clay and they had a water problem, we got pumps to pump the water outI told them that I had a previous commitment that weekend after we dug the footings and that I would be back that Monday to get the water pumped out and finish building the footings and then to pour concrete; they were fine with this schedule at that timeOn Monday, they informed me that they had yet to get a building permit so the project needed to be on hold until they permit was obtained and the inspector came out and passed the work that had been doneLater that day I received a text from [redacted] saying that they had the permit and she knew the inspector and he came out right away and passed my work-the dug footings as well as the footings that were in placeThe following day I got another message from the [redacted]'s stating that they were going to have someone else do the footings as [redacted] had talked to other people and did not feel that the work I had done was sufficient enough for their building[redacted] apologized as she said that she wanted me to do it but she couldn't get through to [redacted] telling me several times throughout this project that he is bipolarI had no opportunity to be asked questions about my work or even change it to the way that they wantedThey told me that after they got the footings done and the excavating done that I would pour the concreteThey later changed their mind on that as wellThe overages that they are talking about are due to not giving me the chance to explain myself to them and my reasoningsThe footings that they ended up pouring were 3x more than what the state code says for this area for that size of garageWhen I went to meet with them to before we started the building-I wanted to meet prior to this to make sure they weren't going to do this to me again once I started this project-[redacted] was furious and started screaming as soon as I got thereOnce we finally reached an agreement and I told them I would be able to come out and finish their project within a couple weeks for the remaining price of the original garage bid itself-minus the down payment of $2000, as I had to start another project after this project crumbled to carry my family, [redacted] immediately started screaming and told me to put my other projects on hold and to start their's nowI told her that I couldn't do that and they were not satisfied with thatI then left telling them that I would refund part of their moneyThey gave me a $down payment to start this entire projectAfter back and forth with [redacted] through text messages(that I still have proof of) we agreed that I would refund them $of that down payment as my work was worth something and they gave me no options to make them happy to finish the project
