J. & J. Moving & Storage, Inc. Reviews (2)

J&J Metro moved me into my new home on Tuesday. I was in a 2nd floor apartment in Ocoee and just moved to a small 2 bedroom home in Sanford (Lake Mary area). I originally called and spoke with Neil, he went through a series of questions regarding both of the locations as well as exactly what I was moving. The call took maybe 6-7 minutes from start to finish and at the end of the call he was able to give me an exact estimate of costs based on what I had moving. He then emailed me an estimate so that I had it in writing and outlined all of the items, the addresses, and a full outline of the costs. After calling around to several other companies and after talking to several of them they just wanted to give me a well most 2 bedrooms take 2-3 hours and our hourly rate is blah blah, and you are charged whatever it takes plus truck charge, fuel, etc. Although J&J Metro does still charge what they call a travel time, and fuel, as well as an hourly charge they actually tell you exactly how long they think it should take and in my case I was told it would be a 3.5 hour move plus the 1 hour travel time for a total of 4.5 hours. They were upfront with me, and it actually came out to just under 4.5 hours, so the cost was what I expected. Had I used one of the other companies I would have been expecting it to be 2-3 hours and would have been sticker shocked when I got the bill but by then would have been to late. Trust me when I say this, the 3 movers J&J Metro sent had no way of going faster. They made me feel exhausted just from the speed and amount of work they were doing. PS. I did tip the movers after the move which was an additional cost over the estimate, but obviously was not required I just felt I had to give these guys something for taking such good care of my furniture and boxes.

Whatever you do, do not use this company! They will charge you over twice what they quote and will damage your items.

Little history: in 2009 I moved to a 2 bedroom apt (1 flight of stairs) with a garage. Move took 4 hr and was $500. In 2015 I moved to a 3 bedroom apt. The move took 4.5 hours and was around $500.

1 bedroom in the 3 bedroom apartment was used as an office. My roommate moved out a couple months ago so I was down to just 1 bedroom and the bulk of the office was gone. It is this apartment that is the subject of this review.

Here is a list of ALL the furniture in the apartment: 1 king bedroom (typical panel bed)... NO DRESSER, NO CHEST, NO NIGHTSTANDS; a small plant stand; a sofa; 2 small accent chairs; 2 coffee tables; 1 flat entertainment center; 1 small metal desk (the cheap kind, like for $100); 1 computer chair; 2 small 2 drawer filing cabinets; 2 barstools. THAT IS IT! 20-30 boxes, 3 small tvs (all under 32in), and 7 pictures. A super small amount to move because I had sold off a ton of stuff before the move. Easily would fit into a regular small U-haul truck with room to spare.

My quote was for $450, which included the travel time. The movers arrived and decided to use the stairs and not the elevator. At one point during the move one of the movers lifted up my entertainment center to wrap it and I noticed a screw fell out and one of the legs was hanging (since it was now only partly screwed in). Disclosure: the last movers damaged the leg at issue, but it was an easy fix and it was a leg located under the entertainment center in a place that couldn't be seen and the damage did not affect the functionality). When I saw the leg hanging, I immediately pointed it out and asked for minute to screw the screw back in the leg would be in place. Me and a mover got a screwdriver and started to fix it. At one point we stopped (before the screw was screwed in). Later when they started to lift the entertainment center to move it, I asked for another moment to finish screwing the leg in. They sat it back down and one of the guys walked off. I asked the other to turn the entertainment center some so I could get to the screw. Instead, he it stands it up on its smallest side! The weight of being stood on its small side was too much and the entire side literally collapses from the weight and breaks! The fact that the entertainment center is broken means they now have even LESS furniture to move! I do have to say that the guy really wanted to try to fix it, but like I told him, it was so severely broken that anything done to fix it would just be temporary because of how serious the damage was.

Guess how long they took to move a 1 ½ bedroom apartment: 7.75 hours!!! And no, they didn't pack me; everything was packed and ready to go. That is how long they took to move a ready apartment (and to move to an apartment on the first floor, so no extra time needed for stairs. Guess how much they charged: $1078. Yes, you read that right. They quoted me $450-500 with travel time and yet the final bill was LITERALLY OVER TWICE THAT! Oh and I checked my quote and it looks like the bulk was accounted for when I called. Even if the bulk wasn't accounted for, I have moved multiple time and have never ever had a move that was over $575, and that was with an entire extra bedroom, a garage, dressers, dining tables, etc. My point is, this was the smallest move I have ever made yet cost double any other move. I was so angry at the end that I didn't even tip. I felt really bad because I had a $100 in cash to tip, but there was no way I was tipping once they charged my card almost $1100 for a 1 ½ bedroom apartment move. BTW, the 2 apartments are 15 minutes apart, so this was not a matter of having a move with a long travel distance between.

This morning I got up and began to unpack. What did I discover? They ripped/cut my computer chair and they lost a piece of my accent chair. It is clear that something really sharp ripped/cut my chair because there is a 2-3 inch straight cut through part of the seat. Then I go to move my accent chair and notice part of the leg is missing (a small piece that fits onto the bottom of the leg)! Yes, that's right. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.

I'm sure the company will post something in response to this, anything to try to push the blame on anyone but themselves. Luckily I work for a huge tv show and for one of the largest brokerage firms in the US. Also luckily my office is close to their main office and lots of people at work are looking for movers. I'm out a $1000 entertainment center, I have to buy a new computer chair since they ripped mine, and I have to figure out what to do about the accent chair. But what I don't have to do is worry about running out of people to share this story with.
