had stripped the lug nut several times at this point someone had hammered sockets onto the nut to the point of shrinking it onto the lug stud. If the proper tools and technique were used this would not have happened. We gave the benefit of the doubt and replaced the lug nuts and lug stud free of charge to the customer. The customer then stated the center cap had a chip in it we did not do this we used the proper tool to remove the center cap before attempting to work on the lug nuts. We believe this damage was done by the person that was working on the vehicle before us and caused the damage we repaired. This style of lug nuts are known to have issues since they have a chrome cap that is glued on and rusts in between the chrome cap and the actual lug nut and swells up not allowing the correct socket to be used and without the proper procedure being used to remove the swelled cap the socket will round out the lug and hammering a smaller socket over this will cause the threaded portion to tighten itself to the lug stud preventing the nut from turning. The chip appeared to be caused by a hammer blow. We never used a hammer on this vehicle. We drilled out the stud one size at a time until the nut let go. We are sorry about this but we did not cause this.
