J L Concrete Design Reviews (9)

In July of this year, we contracted J L to remove and replace our garage floor and driveway in the Western Suburbs, a job they began in AugustUpon returning from work one of the days, we noticed four large driveway slabs discolored from the other slabs, as though stained.(It had rained that day.) We were told to let the driveway cure for days, and things would look more normal In the meantime, we also saw a footprint in one of the discolored slabs In constant conversation with one of the owners, we were led to believe the curing process would alleviate the severity of the stains, and were told nature will "do this" Upon following up after the days had expired, and the stains still significant; upon contacting one of the owners, she replied to me via text admitting they were at fault (after days of denial) saying they packed up quickly in the rain, and one of the workman, while picking up the frames for the concrete, may have stepped in concrete that wasn't yet dryWhile we realized it was likely structurally sound, the amount of money we paid should have allowed us a cosmetic value, as well In speaking with the owners personally, they said to wait years, and it won't be noticeable They told me the warrantee was not applicable, as it excluded discoloration - even when caused by the workers They said leaves will begin to cause it to spot when autumn comes, to which I calmly replied that I understood, but there was a difference between nature and negligence The owner I had been regularly communicating with via text told me she was "sick of this (bleep), and [she] wished we had gone with one of her competitors, so she wouldn't have to deal with a "piece of (bleep) customer like us." I was stunned and appalled at her reaction There was no offer of contrition or remorse, but instead we were made to feel that we were at fault, and were too sensitive, when we just wanted a high priced product to be delivered to us to look cosmetically as good as we hope it is structurally After cursing us out to end the call, I would highly recommend others also go to the competitors of J L (I wish I had waited those same years to pay off their bill...)

JL was very easy to work with When we called, they showed up in a timely manner and was extremely thorough The concrete looks great and withstands the heavy equipment we put on it

I had a great experience with J & L Concrete
And will recommend them to everyone I know

I was referred to JL Concrete design by my mom who was impressed with the work they did on her neighbors’ driveway In October 2015, we hired them to replace our concrete stairsWe were so impressed with the work they did, we discussed having them replace our driveway upon completion of the stairsJulia suggested we wait until Spring She stated it was too late in the season to pour concrete Although a bit disappointed that we had to wait a year, we appreciated Julia’s suggestion and put things off until October In addition to our driveway, JL Concrete replaced our front stoop with sunken steps, installed new concrete patios at the front of our house, and removed an unsightly brick wall planter As expected, Joe, Julia, and their crew did an outstanding jobJulia took care of the permit and all correspondence with our village officials and inspectorJL Concrete went above and beyond our expectationsThey explained what they were going to do and identified the cost of all “projects.” They made sure we understood and were comfortable with all plans and costs There were no surprises as Julia’s level daily communication was fantastic! We even hired them again to apply sealer on the concreteWe are very pleased with their work and we highly recommend them for all your concrete needsJoe and Julia, please feel free to use us as a reference Thanks JL Concrete Design!

In July of this year, we contracted J L to remove and replace our garage floor and driveway in the Western Suburbs, a job they began in August. Upon returning from work one of the days, we noticed four large driveway slabs discolored from the other slabs, as though stained.(It had rained that day.) We were told to let the driveway cure for 30 days, and things would look more normal. In the meantime, we also saw a footprint in one of the discolored slabs. In constant conversation with one of the owners, we were led to believe the curing process would alleviate the severity of the stains, and were told nature will "do this". Upon following up after the 30 days had expired, and the stains still significant; upon contacting one of the owners, she replied to me via text admitting they were at fault (after 28 days of denial) saying they packed up quickly in the rain, and one of the workman, while picking up the frames for the concrete, may have stepped in concrete that wasn't yet dry. While we realized it was likely structurally sound, the amount of money we paid should have allowed us a cosmetic value, as well. In speaking with the owners personally, they said to wait 2 years, and it won't be noticeable. They told me the warrantee was not applicable, as it excluded discoloration - even when caused by the workers. They said leaves will begin to cause it to spot when autumn comes, to which I calmly replied that I understood, but there was a difference between nature and negligence. We were out of town and had our realtor get a quote from this company. When we returned we asked them to come out to make sure our expectations were what they were planning to do. There was a gap of time between the first written estimate (5/13/16) and the second written estimate (7/01/16).
They increased the estimated cost by $600 because the estimate for the realtor was just work to make it look good for a sale. We wanted quality. We told them on 7/5/16 to proceed with the work. We were given a date of 8/4 at 8 am. The afternoon of 8/3 we called to verify the commitment for the following day. The answer was no, they were really busy and the weather was not cooperating. They would come out to review the job on 8/6 at 10:00am and reschedule us for 8/9. The 9th was essential as we were closing the sale of the house and the work need to be done. They were a no show on the 6th. Did not return phone calls from us or our realtor. They were a no show on the 9th, again no returned phone calls but they did respond to a text from the realtor saying it was our fault because we waited so long from the first estimate.(made no sense) In retrospect we should have known they were just stringing us along as they never went to the Village to apply for a permit.
In our opinion, the quality of their work does not matter when they give a consumer false multiple promises of dates the work will be done and they apparently had no intention of doing the work. Very shoddy way of dealing with customers. You should avoid them.

We recently had work done to repair and coat the concrete front porch of a rental property we own in Harwood Heights Illinois and were VERY pleased with not only the finished product but also with the prompt and professional work that was done by J L Concrete Design. We do not live in Illinois so we are always concerned about hiring someone we know nothing about. The owners were very helpful and kind and we felt the price they charged was very fair for the quality of the work they do. I was happy to see that they were listed as an Accredited Business with the Revdex.com so we were comfortable in using them. I would be more than happy to refer them to friends and family members that may need their service.
