Review: Hired [redacted] to repair foundation work, He quoted me $4500 and then continued to add additional money for additional work he didn't notice during the inspection and quote. He will not respond to any phone calls, texts, or emails. He walked away with $4500 and didn't do any work.Desired Settlement: Finish the job he started and I will be happy

Review: In February [redacted] repaired my roof and he suggested that I needed a Roof Vent and ridge cap for the roof. He gave me an estimate of how much the roof would cost to repair. I paid him the total amount and included an additional $400 to replace/fix the roof vent and ridge cap. At this time.....the weather was really bad and so he said it would be done as soon as the weather gets better. Also, around Feb [redacted], I hired him to repair my kitchen floor and to install new cabinets. When the work was done and I inspected it...It was not completed as promised. The kitchen sink started to leak, the cabinets had a gap that left a hold and the floor was coming up at the seams.

I have called [redacted] endless times and he has made a thousand excuses not to come back and complete the work.Desired Settlement: I have already had the kitchen fixed but the extra $400 that I paid for the roof vent and ridge cap I would like a refund.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by J Lent & Sons regarding complaint ID [redacted].

Sincerely,

Review: On 4/**/15 J. Lent and Sons General Contracting of [redacted] supplied an estimate for a roof replacement at our home. [redacted] was contracted to do the work in question.

The job consisted of removal and replacement of shingles and drip edge on the main roof and replacement of roofing and drip edge on flat roof over the back porch. All gutters and downspouts were to be removed by Lent and replaced by another contractor. Roofing work started on 4/**/15 and concluded on 4/**/15. On 5/*/15 a gutter company arrived to install gutters but pointed out a problem with the drip edge used. He stated he would not install the gutters until the problem was corrected.

[redacted] was provided a color sample of gutter material (by me) to match the drip edge that he would use. He did not match the color. What he did use was a gravel guard drip edge which has a raised front. This causes the shingles to curve upward and water to puddle on all edges that have a gutter, before water runs into the gutter. On the flat roof the water will pool to the height of this raised edge before it runs into the gutter and the pooled water will remain on the roof due to no way of reaching the gutter. When I pointed this out to [redacted], he stated that was the best he could purchase. I suggested he talk with the gutter company and resolve this since I was in the middle of the situation.

The gutter company had the right color match aluminum and a break to bend the drip edge to whatever was needed and agreed to supply [redacted] with both to fix the job. An agreement was made by them.

On 5/*/15 two of Lent’s men and the gutter man, arrived to work. [redacted]’s men removed and replaced just the drip edge on the main part of the house that was to have gutters. Now there are two different colors of drip edge that is visible. On the flat roof, [redacted]’s men were instructed to use a razor knife to remove the edge so a new flat edge could be slid under the existing water and ice shield then silicone down in place. The gutter man stated this would be the best way to proceed to cause the least disturbance to the roofing already in place. Instead [redacted]’s man used tin slips which caused the edge to be corrugated and now leaving it unable to be stuck down flat. The gutters were hung but I was told by the gutter man that the problem needed to be fixed. It has rained several times and the water just floods down behind the gutters like a waterfall.

The second item is the two roof vents. [redacted] and I agreed that they were to remain but his men destroyed one when they removed the shingles. [redacted] replaced it with one that is bigger and doesn’t match the original one. He didn’t replace both. Now I have a big and small vent with both being visible .

Originally when the job was thought to be complete and the Lent crew left the premises, I noticed a screen on the rear dormer had been damaged when the shingles were removed on the main roof. The employees made no mention of it when it was done.

Numerous calls and text messages were sent to [redacted] regarding his coming back to our home to examine and remedy the situation. [redacted] made several commitments to do the work and didn’t show up for any and made no contact with me to say he wouldn’t be here. The last appointment he made was to “have someone out there tomorrow morning (5/**) or Saturday morning (5/**) the latest”. My wife sent him a text on the morning of 5/**, to confirm his arrival. He responded “yes, trying to get off this job to yours”. Again he was a no show and has not contacted us at all. He refuses to call me or accept my phone calls.

In an attempt to resolve the issues, a certified letter was sent to [redacted] on May **, 2015. A copy of the same letter was emailed to him on the morning of May **, 2015. As of June *, 2015, he has not responded to the letter, phone calls or text messages.Desired Settlement: The desired outcome is to have J. Lent and Sons General Contracting return immediately and repair the stated problems. If he does not make the repairs, I am seeking $2650 (two thousand six hundred and fifty dollars) from J. Lent and Sons General Contracting to fix the issues as outlined in the estimate from another roofer.
