I would not recommend JN Tree Service, which is owned and operated by Joe Norton They were doing a small job in our neighborhood (in Louisville, KY) and offerred to cut down a fairly large tree for $ We thought it was too good to be true, but accepted and they started work that day late in the afternoon Before finishing a 1/of the job one of the chainsaws "stopped working." Joe then begged for cash (first $and then for $430) in order to buy a new chainsaw I gave him the cash, but made him leave his chainsaws and spurs in my garage and his trailer parked in front of our house He promised to return the next day at am to finish the job
Joe and his crew returned the next day I got the equipment out of the garage assuming they were going to start working By the time I was back in the house, they had hooked up the trailer, loaded the equipment, and taken off I called Joe and he said they were going to the "dump" to drop the tree limbs and would be back in hour After hour they failed to return I called them several times and we want back and forth Joe said they couldn't come back until pm that day At this point, I assumed it was a lost cause However, I offered him another $to finish the job by pm Of course, Joe showed up within minutes of that offer To my surprise the trailer had not been emptied at the dump and there was no new chainsaw purchased
To their credit, they did work most of the afternoon and got the tree mostly down However, the trailer was too full to handle all of the big pieces of the tree and it was so heavy he could not pull with his truck, which happend to break down Of course, he asked for more money to pay his crew and for gas to get home I gave him $in cash and a $check, post-dated I made him leave his spurs in my garage until he came back to finish the job He promised he would be back on Monday (this was the 4th of July weekend) They did an okay job of cleaning up the yard, but left a lot of wood, some pieces too large to move And of course the trailer was left in front of our house, blocking the street
I should also comment on his "crew." There as a lot of standing around and talking on cell phones Joe and one other guy did most of the work Another guy hardly did anything The fourth guy was supposedly sick and he just wondered around the neighborhood, lying down in neighbor's yards and in our flower bed It was very strange
Joe did not show up on Monday as promised When I called him he said he couldn't make it back down until Thursday of that weekI told him that was unacceptable and that we will have someone else finish the job He said that was fine and that he would get his trailer and spurs on Thursday Well, Joe called on Tuesday saying he would be down to get his spurs I told Joe that he needed to give us some of the money back because he never finished the job in a timely manner We agreed to $In the meantime, I canceled the check previously given to him
He was supposed to call me when he arrived at the house and we would make the exchange Instead my wife found him snooping around our garage He tried to give her back the check It ended up in an argument between the two of them until he gave her $and she gave him the spurs She was very unnerved by the experience since we had a two month old baby inside the house He was rude to her and cursed when giving back the money We told him that if the trailer is not gone by Thursday, it will be towed He said he would have picked up by then We'll see
Overall, our experience with this company and Joe Norton was terrible I would not recommend them and anyone reading this should stear clear of ever using them tree work
