I am confused about this customer's true intentions and have been since day oneWhat he has stating is simply not the truthHere are the facts as we see it at the business:
1) He stated he was sent to us from another shop to help himHe brought his own
diagnosis based on other shops he spoke to2) He told us he did not want to spend more than $He spent a great deal of time explaining all his paranoia and how he had been ripped off by other businesses; he also explained his illness and inability to pay for repairs3) I spent a great deal of effort to listen carefully to his diagnosis and to his desire to fix his truck for virually nothing4) Shortly after his truck left our shop, I had two phone calls from other shops warning me of this man and how he could not be made happyThey let me know that he was "trouble" (not my words)
5) The customer came in after the repairs and asked for estimates for other work on his son's vehicle, which we gave aggressive estimates at low costThey both seemed very happy at that time and excited to get the additional work done hee6) THIS CUSTOMER HAS NEVER ONCE ASKED FOR AN ADJUSTMENT TO HIS FINAL BILL, CONFIRMING THE WARNINGS FROM THE OTHER AREA SHOPS THAT HE MIGHT HAVE HAD ALTERIOR MOTIVES FROM THE START7) IF he would have attempted to discuss his disasatisfaction with the paid amount which he agreed to pay, then I can guarantee that this shop's policy would have been to oblige him in reducing his bill even further than we already had8) He came back to ask us to look at his vehicle again because he did not like how it was running, when in fact he was operating the choke in correctlyWe explained the operation numerous times, but he continued to be confused9) When he first came in and we diagnosed the vehicle, we decided to offer a less-expensive solution in fact from what he suggestedHe suggested a new electric chokeWe suggested a less-expensive manual choke (which is what he could not learn how to operate initially)We also suggested that there were other issues and that the carburetor should be rebuilt, but knowing his financial situation, we offered to make adjustments that would help but not take care of all the issues without spending the money necessary to do a rebuild of the carburetor10) Our mechanic with years experience, including a carburetor expert having rebuilt and tuned for all those years, spent most of the morning on his carburetor on OUR time and got the part working exceptionally well.
11) When the customer returned with a QUESTION (not posed as a complaint) we re-explained how to operate the new choke and how NOT to start his vehicle incorrectly, and we told him the issue was not at all what we had done and that the carburetor was fineWe explained again that he has other issues with the very old truck that needed to be addressedWe offered to help him again with the other issuesWe kept the bill down to well under the $limit by eating time in laborWe only charged for hours when we spent much more to get the carburetor rightWe told him clearly numerous times that he had other mechanical issuesWe asked when the last time he had a tune up was, and he admitted it had been awhile, as we could see by the condition of some of the parts under the hoodWe offered to help him at reasonable cost again12) He agreed to bring the truck back in the next day or two for us to further diagnose and perhaps perform some tune up work outside of the things we had doneHe has an old truck that required very specific skills that are not apparent to other modern technicians in this area13) In order to do what we did in installing the choke, our mechanic had to fabricate a custom bracket from scratch in order to make the part compatible with the vehicle since the vehicle specific part was not available to us that day and he wanted his truck backWe fabricated that part, which I would LOVE to see another shop tell me that they could do the job in ten minutes.
14) I would be happy to meet with the other supposed old car expert in town who supposedly stated that our work should have taken ten (10) minutesThey do not have a clue what was actually done, and neither does this customerHe did not listen as every minute detail was clearly explained before it was done, while it was being done, and after it was doneThere is no way ANY mechanic, even highly skilled on this particular year, make and model, could do the work we did in ten minutesIt took way more than the charged time15) So, I wonder what his true intentions were if he is lying, he never once complained about the bill he agreed to pay, but simply went straight for the Revdex.com to destroy our well-deserved reputation, like he does in this town16) I would have gladly worked with him to give him some form of adjustment when he brought it back as planned and agreed to, but we were never given that chance to make him happy (we never even knew he was not happy)17) At this point his damage is done by smearing our reputation blatantly without due cause or warning or attempt to work things out as real men do face-to-faceSo, we are not currently of the mind to reward him for his approach to hurt our business.
18) All charges were clearly explained and all attempts were made to satisfy this customerHe is not welcome in this establishment, and should any additional attempts be made to tarnish our name in this town in any way, our attorneys are prepared to serve civil lawsuit and bring this man to courtIn addition, IF this absurd issue is not dropped (what legitimate customer goes right to the Revdex.com as his first course of action without warning) then our staff will be happy to inform every other automotive shop within miles to beware of this customer in order to stop this man.
