Re: Complaint [redacted] Dear Revdex.com,This letter was sent in response to a complaint recently lodged by a homeowner in Waldorf MD (Per your advice I refrain from naming him herein, instead denominating him '‘the complainant, but be aware that the attachments must identify the customer, given their functions as proofs.)On May 14, 2010, a major hailstorm struck Waldorf and other locales in MD and VAOur firm, experienced in storm restoration, laid about new roofs, mostly in Waldorf and Vienna, VAOwing to the sheer volume, material and product orders were handled centrally at headquarters, relevant to our response as we maintain complete records on what transpired and was installed. In his complaint, the complainant implies that he was surprised by a $service fee on 11/11/But our associate’s note (see attached) plainly shows that he agreed to accept the fee on 11/9/16.As for why such a fee is justified, our standard labor warranty on a roof is one complete yearIn particularly competitive situations we’ve extended it, but it has never exceeded five years(It’s not a great risk to extend the warranty because when a roof fails from poor installer technique, it’s almost always after the first rain, snowfall or high-velocity wind.) The complainant filed his complaint 1/vears after installation, clearly outside the boundary of his labor warrantyA roof inspector must always be paid; we do it within the warranty and pass along the charge otherwise. In his complaint, the complainant also alleges we installed his roof with inadequate-length nailsThe complainant bought a CertainTeed XT-shingle (see attachment), for which headquarters ordered a 1/2", 11-gauge, 3/8” head electro-galvanized roofing nail (see attachment)CertainTeed provides guidance for roof installation (see attachment, atop the second page), and the XT-shingle requires a roofing nail at least 1” longOurs exceeded the minimal length by a full 50%.A properly installed shingled roof is water-and-wind-resistant, but not waterproof or windproof.I suspect that the complainant’s misfortune is not attributable to defective material or technique, but to the exigencies of weatheringIn other words, “stuff happens,” and while I can sympathize on a personal basis, our firm is not at faultHis interior damage should be an insurance matter.Yours sincerely,David *F*, General Manager

functions as proofs.)On May 14, 2010, a major hailstorm struck Waldorf and other locales in MD and VA. Our firm, experienced in storm restoration, laid about 800 new roofs, mostly in Waldorf and Vienna, VA. Owing to the sheer volume, material and product orders were handled centrally at headquarters, relevant to our response as we maintain complete records on what transpired and was installed. In his complaint, the complainant implies that he was surprised by a $200 service fee on 11/11/16. But our associate’s note (see attached) plainly shows that he agreed to accept the fee on 11/9/16.As for why such a fee is justified, our standard labor warranty on a roof is one complete year. In particularly competitive situations we’ve extended it, but it has never exceeded five years. (It’s not a great risk to extend the warranty because when a roof fails from poor installer technique, it’s almost always after the first rain, snowfall or high-velocity wind.) The complainant filed his complaint 6 1/4 vears after installation, clearly outside the boundary of his labor warranty. A roof inspector must always be paid; we do it within the warranty and pass along the charge otherwise. In his complaint, the complainant also alleges we installed his roof with inadequate-length nails. The complainant bought a CertainTeed XT-25 shingle (see attachment), for which headquarters ordered a 1 1/2", 11-gauge, 3/8” head electro-galvanized roofing nail (see attachment). CertainTeed provides guidance for roof installation (see attachment, atop the second page), and the XT-25 shingle requires a roofing nail at least 1” long. Ours exceeded the minimal length by a full 50%.A properly installed shingled roof is water-and-wind-resistant, but not waterproof or windproof.I suspect that the complainant’s misfortune is not attributable to defective material or technique, but to the exigencies of weathering. In other words, “stuff happens,” and while I can sympathize on a personal basis, our firm is not at fault. His interior damage should be an insurance matter.Yours sincerely,David *.
