J & T Income Tax Service Reviews (%countItem)

I have been getting my taxes done with Jason since 2008. I have never had ANY problems and he actually fixed my taxes from the year before (done by someone else)
It is now 2019 and I will continue to go back in this year to again have J and T do my taxes. There has never been any problems whatsoever and all three of the staff there have always been helpful, courteous and awesome to deal with. I have recommended many friends and family to go there and my own (now adult) children go through there too!
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the review Bobby-Jo. Very kind of you to leave such comments. We'll continue to do our best to help you in any way we can.

We had this company file our 2016 taxes.1 yr after the service we get notified our appeal was denied due to requested documents not being sent.
We dropped off our income tax docs in June of 2017. This was the first time we used this company. We tried to explain how our last income tax service had filed in the past specifically regarding travel for medical but the information was disregarded. All the representative seemed to want was the papers and our contact information. We tried explaining that we keep a handwritten journal of all our trips regarding medical expenses. It took them a very long time to complete our return to which my wife made numerous phone call questioning this. All she ever got was a voicemail which she did leave messages on but no one ever called back. Finally I sent an email to which I did get a response. We did get an apology for the length of time it was taking and I was assured a tax refund was coming so no extra penalties would be charged. In August of 2017 we were notified our return was complete and if payment could be made for the service it would be sent to revenue Canada. My wife went in to pay the bill & the return was filed. In September of 2017 I was notified by revenue Canada I wasn't getting a refund & owed them money. They were also requesting more documents regarding children's fitness credits. I questioned this because I haven't had to pay income tax for a very long time. Upon reviewing my notice of assessment I noticed our medical expenses seem considerably lower than previous years. I contacted *** from JT income tax via email & questioned what had happened. I explained to him how we kept track of our medical expenses again to which he relplied he only submitted expenses from The records that came from our family doctor and didn't even consider Chiro, acupuncture prescriptions dentist etc as medical expenses. We have to trave for all these services due to where we live and thus are able to claim travel expenses. He didn't refer to the journal to verify the other medical documents or even call us to question why all these other records were given. He then stated he would have to submit an appeal to correct this oversight. The original letter from revenue Canada stated I owed roughly $300. A few months later I received another letter stating that because documents hadn't been received I owed over $800 now. I sent another email to J&T regarding this concern to which the reply came that revenue Canada was under a serious backlog. I was again assured the appeal was filed correctly and it will take more time for everything to catch up and be resolved. More emails were sent throughout 2017 to which the same reply came they need more time. In January of 2018 I emailed again to which I was assured the issue was still under review. In March of 2018 I called revenue Canada to which I was told yes there is a backlog but if I filed my 2017 taxes there could be a possibility of 2016 getting reviewed at the same time. When I had someone new file my 2017 taxes I also had them review my 2016 return that was prepared by J&T income tax services. The new tax provider felt I should be getting a refund for 2016 as well. When I got my notice of assessment for 2017 they held the money still owed from the second 2016 assessment plus interest. $905.01 was held back from my 2017 tax refund. On May 15 I received another letter from revenue Canada stating that my 2016 return could not be adjusted because supporting documents were not submitted. I can no longer accept the runaround we've been getting from J T income tax services, I have not contacted them anymore as I am through dealing with them. Our current tax provider has prepared our 2016 return to file with all necessary supporting documents.

Desired Outcome

I feel a complete refund of what we paid would be adequate. We paid for a service that we didn't receive and had to pay another provider to resolve an issue that's been in the works for almost a year.

We're sorry to hear that our service didn't meet your expectations and we apologize for any delays / miscommunication on our part. We were aware of the previous issues you've had with a previous tax preparer/CRA reviewing medical on your 2015 return and that you had decided not to pursue. In regards to medical travel for 2016 initially we were under the impression your dates of travel were the ones indicated on statements issued by your doctor's office. We didn't realize you were also wanting to claim for medical travel for the other medical services you received. Once you advised us of this we did submit an electronic REFILE to CRA to correct. Because the 2015 issue had never been resolved CRA did request information regarding your medical expenses for 2016 which we did submit to them electronically. Due to the fact that tax centres have been "repurposed" by CRA, they have been experiencing review delays of 5-8 months in processing times for the past year and a half. This has created quite a frustrating experience for clients' and ourselves in getting issues resolved with them.

After receiving your complaint to the Revdex.com I did check with CRA as to why they would have sent a letter indicating that no supporting documents had been sent when we did in fact send them. I spoke to *** (ID# *** at the St. John's tax centre X-XXX-XXX-XXXX. She looked into the file and found that the rejection letter had been sent without the supporting documentation attached even being opened by CRA. She can be contacted if you wish to confirm this information. She assured me that the 2016 documentation would be reviewed with priority and a Notice of Reassessment be sent to the client with any interest charged being reversed. I also resubmitted the documentation to make sure they had the most recent information for the REFILE we had sent (reference# CXXXXXXXXXX-XXX-XX). We won't pursue any further action with CRA due to the fact that you're now working with another tax preparer to resolve this, but at least wanted to make sure any loose ends on our part were followed up.

We wish you all the best going forward, and have issued you a full refund by cheque in the amount of $280.83 for invoice BXXXXX to your address of
