facility to properly diagnose the problem because catalytic convertors do not fail on their own. His vehicle is a 2003 model year with approximately 140,000 miles and it was clearly not maintained properly because of the initial catalytic convertor failure. The customer was also correct in stating that he was billed on each subsequent replacement, but failed to mention in his complaint that he paid for the labor for only the first two replacements. He refused to pay for the labor for the third replacement. We here at J&V Muffler have been more than accommodating and attentive to his dissatisfaction, but he believes that we owe him all of his money back. The manufacturer had graciously agreed to give him the money for the part. They could have refused because of other mechanical trouble relating to the premature failure of the - catalytic convertor. The customer and his wife found this unacceptable. I would also like to add that we informed him that it would be his responsibility to contact the manufacturer, not ours, as it was not a fault of our labor but the part. In an effort to satisfy our customer, we contacted the manufacturer for him numerous times. I must state that I have been repairing automobiles professionally for 20 years and I have never had a customer complain like this. I firmly believe we have gone beyond normal business practices to keep this patron and his wife happy. They are requesting full reimbursement or nothing. We have professionally installed the parts and there is no fault on our part, as far as faulty labor. In closing, we have made a fair attempt to satisfy this customer, to no avail. We operate on miniscule margins of profit and have performed the installation flawlessly. Therefore, I believe the decision on Magnaflows part to refund the cost of the part is more than fair. The customer and his wife are not willing to take the offer. I feel there is nothing more that J&V Muffler can do in this matter.
Respectfully,J&V Muffler

I am rejecting this response because:
I am entitled to my full purchase price for the part and will be reviewing my dispute options from this point.

Review: I paid 542.72 to have a catalytic converter replaced. 447.00 dollars for the part 65 dollars labor and tax of 30.72. Due to a defective part the job had to be re-done three times. At 65 dollars labor fee each time. After the third defective part I decided not to have a part from the same manufacture installed. I chose to be refunded my purchase price minus labor and had someone else install a fourth part at a different mechanic with a different manufactures part. The third converter was returned for refund of in January 2014. Today August 13 2014 I received a phone call stating that my refund of 234.88 dollars was ready to finally be picked up. I questioned why the refund is not what I originally paid for the part and I was told that the refund is what was refunded from the manufacture and the mechanic was not responsible to refund me the difference of the mark-up. The refund is for the amount JV MUFFLER paid for the part. JV was refunded their purchase price. I paid 447.00 for the part.Desired Settlement: I wish to be refunded my purchase price for the part.
