On every phone call I receive, I explain my procedures I begin with an inspection of the property to determine animal access points The cost for the inspection is $ From that inspection, I provide a bid to secure the access points and remove the problem animals If the bid is accepted, I waive the inspection fee, and schedule the work I tell this to every person that calls me and can offer hundreds of witnesses to that effect of satisfied clients Mr [redacted] , agreed to a portion of the work, and we scheduled the job I reminded him that the inspection fee would be due if he cancelled the work I have my apprentice as a witness to that The day before the work was to begin, I called and left a message on Mr [redacted] 's phone that the work would commence the day after, and we are looking forward to getting started When my apprentice arrived to begin the work, Mr [redacted] told him to stop, and he no longer wanted the work done My apprentice reminded him again about the $inspection fee He became irate for the first time in any of our encounters I told my apprentice to just go to his next job, and I would just send Mr [redacted] a billWhich I did The bid is a detailed list of everything that needs to be done to fortify a home against animal invasions It is sufficient enough that any competent handyman can use the information to make the structure animal proof I charge for the inspection because without it, a regular handyman would not have sufficient animal specialty knowledge to know what to do, as Mr [redacted] needed it to know what repairs his home was in need of to solve his rat problem I surmise he is probably planning on doing the work himself, and wanted to use my expertise free of charge and is thus offering this complaint as a way to bully me I suspect that I will not get the $payment out of him regardless, and will end up having to take it as a write off, but this complaint is completely unfounded Had he simply returned my message and told me the day before that he didn't need my services, I might have been a little more forgiving, but he wasted a second trip, payroll time and fuel, and the purchase of supplies for his job before getting irate with my apprentice

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: I was never told about any fee to begin with, either when setting up the ESTIMATE appointment or in person, or the waiving of that fee, this is not written anywhere on the website, nor on the bid/estimate sheet I received. I know this because I would NOT have agreed to that fee for a simple estimate of services. Roofing estimates, deck estimates, landscaping estimates--I have received multiple ones of all three without any mention of an "inspection fee" for such bids from any other contractors. No mention ever was made of a "62-point inspection"--which, by the way, I did not receive. I said, "I will call you if I want it done." I did not call to schedule the work; I returned NO phone calls; you can check phone records if you like. I consider a worker showing up to complete a more-than-$2,000 (and possibly up to $4,000) job without having a signed contract to do such a terrible way to do business on the part of a business owner. All future contact or inquiries should be made not to me but to my lawyer, Jennifer S***, at [redacted] . Sincerely, [redacted]

I do not give estimates, I give inspections and provide a bid based on those inspections
Home Inspectors, Pest inspectors, etc, all charge for inspections. I located your access points, and identified weak spots which need to be repaired
Like most Home and Pest inspectors, I do not list my price on my website, because it may vary based on travel time, after hours call outs, etc
I am sorry you don't remember the two times I explained about my inspection fee. I am sorry this is such a big issue for you. Even *** paid an inspection fee, but I applied toward the work he hired me to do on his house
I'm not going to harass you about the fee, I am simply going to write it off as a bad debt
The thorough inspection and list of repairs needed is sufficient for you to address the problems on your house yourself and solve the rat infestation. At the very least I hope you can appreciate what I have done for you, and that you have gotten that detailed list of required repairs at no cost

On every phone call I receive, I explain my procedures.  I begin with an inspection of the property to determine animal access points.  The cost for the inspection is $125.  From that inspection, I provide a bid to secure the access points and remove the problem animals.  If the...

bid is accepted, I waive the inspection fee, and schedule the work.  I tell this to every person that calls me and can offer hundreds of witnesses to that effect of satisfied clients.
Mr [redacted], agreed to a portion of the work, and we scheduled the job.  I reminded him that the inspection fee would be due if he cancelled the work.  I have my apprentice as a witness to that.
The day before the work was to begin, I called and left a message on Mr. [redacted]'s phone that the work would commence the day after, and we are looking forward to getting started.
When my apprentice arrived to begin the work, Mr [redacted] told him to stop, and he no longer wanted the work done.  My apprentice reminded him again about the $125 inspection fee.  He became irate for the first time in any of our encounters.
I told my apprentice to just go to his next job, and I would just send Mr. [redacted] a bill. Which I did.
The bid is a detailed list of everything that needs to be done to fortify a home against animal invasions.  It is sufficient enough that any competent handyman can use the information to make the structure animal proof.  I charge for the inspection because without it, a regular handyman would not have sufficient animal specialty knowledge to know what to do, as Mr. [redacted] needed it to know what repairs his home was in need of to solve his rat problem.  I surmise he is probably planning on doing the work himself, and wanted to use my expertise free of charge and is thus offering this complaint as a way to bully me.  I suspect that I will not get the $125 payment out of him regardless, and will end up having to take it as a write off, but this complaint is completely unfounded.  Had he simply returned my message and told me the day before that he didn't need my services, I might have been a little more forgiving, but he wasted a second trip, payroll time and fuel, and the purchase of supplies for his job before getting irate with my apprentice.
