Review: I was sold a diamond ring at Jack Sutton Fine Jewelry that I paid $6,800 for and they appraised at $6,900.

When I tried to sell the ring, I was told it was only worth $300-$500. I noticed, and had confirmed, that the appraisal was also incomplete.

I feel I was negligently overcharged.Desired Settlement: Request refund in full of price I paid, and I will return the ring.

In response to the complaint filed with your office by [redacted] we offer the following defense.The final price [redacted] actually paid for the ring was $2650.00 plus tax, a large portion of which was for labor.In March 2010 [redacted] came in looking for a diamond solitaire ring. As per his request we broke apart a pair of earrings using one of the two diamonds. [redacted] was charged for the labor involved to split up the earrings, the diamond and the custom Platinum mounting to accommodate the diamond a total of $6500.00 plus tax.Shortly thereafter [redacted] returned the ring, requesting that the center diamond be changed out to a smaller size. He was issued a refund for the first center diamond of $5000.00. He proceeded to choose a center diamond from an existing pendant we had here in the store. Again there was a labor charge to remove the center stone from the pendant. There was also a labor charge to rework the head of the mounting to a smaller size to accommodate the smaller diamond. All the extra labor charges clearly increased the price of the sale. The final price he was charged for the ring in question was $2650.00 plus tax.We find it incredulous that SIX YEARS LATER he is making a complaint. Perhaps the persons [redacted] was trying to sell the ring to are not in a financial position to pay full market value for the ring.With regard to the appraisal we don’t see how it appears incomplete, and as stated the appraisal is strictly for insurance purposes only.
