Jacob's Auto Glass Reviews (9)

[redacted] came on 7/6/15 to our shop with his 01 Mitsubishi Lancer, we replaced the windshield with no problem, but while replacing the w/s we noticed that the hood latch is missing safety hook, due to previous accident, On 7/9/15 8am [redacted] came and us me for the warranty on the w/s, I politely...

explained, that it covers manufacturer defects, stress cracks (w/s cracks with no rock chip or visual impact ), distortion, or any bad quality of the product for one year, it doesn't cover any rock chips, road hazard,  vandalism.Been installing auto glass over 15 years, its very common, when due to no safety hook for the hood, fails or driver don't close the hood properly, hood opens on the freeway and slams against windshield, this exactly what happened in this case, attached photos clearly shows that the w/s smashed by the hood at the high speed due to safety hook failure, understand his frustration, We offered him discounted price for the second windshield, which he rejected[redacted] started threatening to close our business, yelling to other customers not to use our shop, so I had to ask him to please leave,Later during the day Bills parents in law stopped by the shop wondering what happened, I explained them the situation, and that hood latch and the safety hook need to be fixed or replaced before installing new w/s, they were very polite and surprised that [redacted] lied to them about opened hood,

Review: On 7/16/2013 a service person from [redacted]'s auto glass came to my home to remove a windshield from a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro that I am restoring. The service person used a power tool, a kind of reciprocating scraper, to separate the windshield glass from the body along the bottom edge. This tool had a broken blade which had split into two sections. The service person said "it still has a little more life left in it." When the glass was removed I glanced over the area (standing on the passenger side of the vehicle) and did not immediately notice any damage due to the poor lighting and the vinyl still being damp and shiny with water. After he'd left, I had other obligations and didn't have time to inspect the car. When I returned to the car today (7/17/2013) I noticed the most severely damaged area (driver's side) and the more minor damage on the passenger side. The vinyl was then dry and the damaged areas turned a slightly different color than when they were wet which allowed me to see them. I called [redacted]'s immediately. [redacted] acted confused, as though he couldn't understand my description of the damage. I removed the dash pad and drove over to his shop to show him. He denied that the scraper could cause such damage even though I demonstrated clearly how the cuts are angled in precisely the way one would expect a broken blade coming down along the windshield would make. When I proposed seeing if it could be repaired or replaced, [redacted] complained that all this is a lot of trouble over a $50 job. He expressed no willingness to resolve the matter. Throughout this discussion [redacted] repeatedly tried to make it sound as if I had waited 2 days before coming to him with this complaint, when in fact I reported it to him within 5 minutes of my discovering the problem, less than 24 hours after the work was done.Desired Settlement: I've spoken with a local vinyl restoration professional and have been told it is very unlikely that it can be repaired due to the type of vinyl used in these older cars, though I have an appointment to meet him in the near future. If it proves to be reparable reimbursal of that cost or replacement of the dash pad would be acceptable.

Response:

[redacted] called on Friday to remove the windshield and quarter glass on 85 Chevy Camera. He said, that he tried to remove the windshield by himself, but wasn't successful. [redacted], one of the best worker I've ever have, came to [redacted] home and removed the windshield, while he watched, cleaned the dashboard, [redacted] inspected paid and we left. Next day [redacted] called , saying dashboard cover has some minor rub marks. I asked him to bring the cover in shop, which he did. I inspected and did find those rub mark possibly being done by any sharp object. Possibly something was rubbing against the cover. Also noticed, that the windshield was previously replaced and rubs are unnoticeable when windshield is installed. [redacted] came in shop at very busy moment, so I asked him to leave the cover in the shop to take care of it. [redacted] first agreed to leave it, and then grabbed and left, treating mes up my business, I guess all he want is $400. Even if we didn't damage it, I'm willing to repair it. Spoke with upholstery shop, they told me, should be 20 min professional repair, worth noting more then $30. We are here to take customers, first complain in the 10 years.

Thank you,

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9627399, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me subject to the following conditions.

1. I have consulted a repair professional and been advised that the damage to the dash pad cannot be repaired. The reason they said it cannot be repaired is that the dash pad is made of PVC plastic, not vinyl, and that because it has been treated in the past with Armor All it cannot be heated to the temperature necessary to fuse on fillers or patches. I am willing to allow someone to attempt to perform a repair with the understanding that if it cannot be repaired, or if the damage is made more severe, that a replacement dash pad will be provided.

2. [redacted]'s Auto Glass must take the action necessary to resolve this matter by contacting the repair service (if they choose to go that route first) and providing them with my contact info. The repair provider can reach me at ###-###-#### any weekday after 12:00pm or at any time on weekends. If [redacted]'s decides to replace the part or if the repair is unsuccessful and a replacement is required, [redacted]'s will order the part and either have it shipped to my address or they can deliver it personally. In the case of a replacement either an undamaged original part or an aftermarket reproduction is acceptable.

3. My complaint is about indemnity; I am not attempting to make a profit from this matter. It is for this reason that I request that [redacted]'s pay the repair provider or part supplier directly.

JUST BRING THAT COVER HERE AND WE'LL TAKE CARE OF IT

Response:

In reference to complaint ID 9627399: Today I delivered the damaged dash pad to [redacted]'s Auto Glass as they requested, despite the fact that it was not one of the options I outlined in my conditional acceptance of their response. [redacted]'s message to me can be seen in the history of this complaint, but just to recap, it reads "JUST BRING THAT COVER HERE AND WE'LL TAKE CARE OF IT." To my disappointment I arrived with the dash pad wrapped in plastic to protect it from any further damage and was told I had to open it up so he could inspect it again. We had already inspected it together once when I first brought the problem to his attention. Perhaps it is a failure of my reading ability, but [redacted]'s written response to me appeared to say he'd take care of the problem, not that he have me drive 25 miles round-trip to have him be belligerent and continue to deny responsibility. I brought with me a simple sheet of paper with a statement on it saying he is accepting transfer of custody of the part from me to him, but he refused to sign it. I feel that bears repeating. He refused to provide me with any proof that he accepted the part from me. [redacted] said he would decide what to do with the dash pad and call me. Am I mistaken or did his message to me say he would take care of it?

Most disappointing out of all of this is that [redacted] stated to me that he has not even read the details of my complaint. In his office I had to recount the details of the complaint and the actions I've taken because apparently he does not consider the matter worth taking 10 minutes to read it. It doesn't seem coincidental that after I first informed him of the situation almost two weeks went by and he did not contact me to attempt to resolve the matter. It wasn't until the Revdex.com called [redacted] half way through the 30 day period that they made any reply, and then it was only to provide a paragraph of broken English that accused me of trying to get $400 out of him. He of course did not read the response where I explicitly explained that I was not in fact out to get anything out of him except indemnity.

Disturbingly, [redacted] referred to my complaint and what he considers my "trying to mess up his business" and stated that this would be handled his way and that I wasn't going to tell him what to do. The way he acted today makes me doubt that I will ever see my dash pad again. I left it with him because if I did not, I do not see any path to this getting resolved, and if he doesn't resolve it I will be forced to replace it anyway. Although he has stated that he has not, and therefore probably will not, take the time to read the details of this complaint, I would like to respectfully suggest that he take a moment to calm down, stop the macho act, and deal with customer complaints rationally.

Lastly, I have included pictures I took of the damage for the record.

Review: I received a rock chip to my windshield 2 days ago about the size of a quarter. I called Jacob's Auto Glass and was quoted $35 to fill in the chip. My boyfriend took my car into the appointment to have the chip fixed and called me to tell me that they didn't fix the chip and instead caused the chip to turn into an 8" crack going along my windshield now. I spoke to the worker at Jacob's Auto Glass and he told me these things happen and that now he could charge me $175 to replace my whole windshield or just reimburse the $35 that he initially charged before the work was even started.Desired Settlement: I want Jacob's Auto Glass to replace my windshield for no more than $35. I do not want to pay the full amount of $175 to fix the workers mistake. My auto insurance does not cover these things and so any money paid to fix my windshield is coming out of my pocket directly. I don't feel like I should be responsible to pay for their mistake.

Response:

We repair rock chips daily, unfortunately ones in the while repair fails due to nature of the laminated glass too much tension in the damaged area, too close to the edge of the windshield, heat and other reasons, this one was under a lot of tension, and fail repair before we even started repair, our policy clearly states, if repair fails, we refund the amount spent on the repair, or apply it towards new windshield replacement, I'm willing to install new windshield free of charge, even that this is not our fault, we tried to get of hold of customer for two weeks, left several messages, finally had a chance to talk to her, we hope to see you soon, thank you Jacob

Revdex.com,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I received a call from Jacob at Jacob's Auto Glass on 6/22/2015 in regards to my complaint I filed with the Revdex.com on 5/29/2015. He said he had been trying to get a hold of me for weeks but realized he had a wrong phone number and finally got the correct phone number from the Revdex.com form. He stated again that it wasn't his fault that my windshield cracked while he was trying to fill in the rock chip, and that I was lucky he even gave me a refund. I told him a refund wouldn't have been needed if he hadn't been shady and charged for his work before actually completing it. He made up some excuse about how the other associate working that day had charged the credit card while he was doing the work and so the associate wasn't aware that the repair had failed. I told him I was very unsatisfied with the way he handled his mistake and how he tried to charge me now for a whole new windshield at a rate of $175, instead of just fixing the original rock chip at $30. He kept arguing with me for several minutes about how this wasn't his fault, it was due to a faulty windshield and stated it was clearly stated that his work was not guaranteed. I never saw anything that stated this non guarantee and told him he should explain to people the risks that they are taking. I am not an expert in windshield repair and I expect that when I take my vehicle to someone who is, they would educate me a little on the possible risks. He finally offered to have me bring my car in and he would replace the windshield for free. I told him I have since moved away from Spokane on 6/8/2015 to Seattle, and wouldn't be returning to the area. He said again that it took him several weeks to get a hold of me. I told him if he wanted to find a comparable windshield replacement company in the Seattle area and pay them to do the work I would be satisfied. He said he wouldn't trust anyone else's work but his own to do the repair. I told him I don't trust his work. Nothing was resolved, my windshield is still cracked because I cannot afford to pay replacement costs.

Regards,

Business

Great customer service and quality work at a more than good price. Will highly recommend to anyone that needs glass replacement or repair. 93 Jeep XJ Cherokee

This is the second time that I've used Jacobs Auto Glass. I wish that I could say I will continue to use them but that will not be the case. Furthermore, I do not recommend anyone use this company for their auto glass repair.
The transaction started out completely professional and normal. I provided the year, make and model of my car and received a quote. Upon booking the replacement I let them know that I would not be home during the repair. I asked if they needed the keys and was told they would be able to complete the job without them. I was told that the cost was to be paid for in full prior to them arriving. I had no reason to believe that everything would not go as planned.
However, I arrived home on my lunch to a voicemail stating that they could not complete the job without an additional $45 as they did not have the right window to do the replacement. I looked out at my car to find that the back window was completely missing and broken glass was left all over the car and street. This company left my car unlocked and completely open for anyone to steal or steal from.
I immediately called the company back to get to the bottom of the issue. I was told that I would have to pay the additional amount to complete the job. I was told that Apparently, the 2004 Kia has a 2005 window and had I been replacing any window I would have run into the same issue.... Oddly enough two years ago when I replaced my windshield I was not alerted of this detail...After approximately half an hour of arguing and being laughed at while pointing out facts about the poor job they had done they agreed to finish the job without additional payment.
I found dirty footprints and broken glass everywhere in my car. They did nothing to clean up the mess that was created by them.
I do not recommend that anyone go to this company for their glass repair. Spend the extra $20 and go to a reputable company with reliable service.

Review: I came to jacobs auto glass to repare my windshield , I pay $168.49 the day of 7/6/15 at 10:30 am , they replace my windshield n I pay after I sing the contract I ask to the person working in the front desk about insurance and what is cover , he told the cover any damage for one year and life cover for installation. So I just want my windshield to be fix or the money backDesired Settlement: I just want to replace my windshield or the money back , I just try to use the warranty of the money I paid for

Jacob's was wonderful to work with! I called for service, they were very polite, extremely affordable, provided free same day mobile service to replace my windshield, and did it in under and hour. What a wonderful experience!

Had them do 2 windshield replacements, rock chip repair and multiple window tint on my cars over years. I liked how tint turned out and friends liked it too, so they had their cars windows tinted as well.
Will be back. Thank you.
