Regardless of how the individual in question got my personal information, the individual's actions were a gross violation of privacy. Hi,I have asked our Billing department to make a complete investigation of this complaint and let me know the findings.Please see the attached result of our investigation.After a thorough investigation,we determined the following:1.      We have the right patient and...

the correct insurance information that we obtained from NYU.2.      Shortly after the charges were paid by the patient’s insurance, we sent a patient invoice for the copay in the amount of $118.203.      The copay invoice was sent to a Brooklyn address, but was returned as undeliverable.  4.      The staff member who was in charge of resolving undeliverable mail performed a “skip trace” by looking up the patient against Accurint records.   Accurint is a paid skip tracing service with strict access and confidentiality guidelines; it is not open to thepublic.  The skip trace was NOT performed through [redacted].5.      The Accurint search yielded a hit for a person with the same name who lived in Chicago.  We know now that this is the person who filed the complaint with Revdex.com.   We also determined that the person with the same name in Chicago had a different DOBthan our patient.    Conclusion: Although the services were rendered to the right patient, and the correct insurance was billed, the patient copay invoice was sent to the wrong person.    The staff member who made the error is no longer with us.  However, the [redacted] in charge of that area was shown the issue and the effects of incorrect address assignment.  Going forward, the next person who will be put in charge of resolvingundeliverable mail will be trained appropriately in the use of Accurint searches.  We recommend that the person who made a complaint verify with their [redacted] carrier, and confirm that no claim was made against their policy.
