We got connected with the Cathy Russell team when we were looking for rental homes on Zillow in the Lafayette area. We found a great place and contacted Cathy through the process on Zillow. Cathy contacted me via phone immediately and was very nice. She referred me to her associate, [redacted], as we were looking to rent instead of buy. We contacted [redacted], who was originally very nice. She met up with us and showed us a couple different locations. We had a special situation because my husband was unexpectedly moving home from North Carolina much sooner than we expected but we would not be able to move into a place for another month at least because of my current lease somewhere else in the area. We found a place we liked with [redacted] and we told her that we would try to get the process moving soon so that we could lock down the place. We were very honest with [redacted] about our situation and tried to stay in contact with her often regarding the availability of the unit. My husband tried to call [redacted] several times after that and she was extremely hard to get a hold of. He even told her that we were making arrangements to have the deposit and first months rent money available sooner. She then became very shady and said that she'd see what was available at that time, yet she said the unit had not been rented yet. She said it was hard because multiple people were showing the same unit? We then pulled some strings and got the money early. We told [redacted] we would be ready to roll the next day and she said if we could do that then the place would be ours. She even told my husband to call her the next morning to set up a meeting. We ran a credit report and sent them the info and even filled out a rental application. After going out of our way and rushing to get money to secure the place, we spent a whole day trying to get a hold of [redacted] to meet with her to finalize things. After a whole day of calling her personally, I finally called the real estate office and asked to talk to Cathy. [redacted] answered and I told her we had been trying to get a hold of her ALL DAY. She admitted to knowing we called and said she was waiting to get back to us until the end of the day... She said someone else had already rented the unit to some other renters. When I asked her how long it had been rented she chuckled and said "Well you don't need to worry about that." I was SHOCKED that someone would be so dishonest with us after we had been so honest about our situation and then rushed and gone out of our way to make it work because we thought we could get the unit according to [redacted]s words!! I then explained my frustration to her and told her how disappointed I was that she failed to be honest with us. It was her responsibility to tell us if that unit was rented or not so we could look into other options. All she did was make excuses about how it wouldn't work yet she NEVER told us any of these issues before hand. ALL she would have had to say is "that won't work but let's look into other options for you". After I told my husband, he called back to talk to Cathy to explain our situation and express his frustration. She had known this all day but never had the decency to tell us?? [redacted] answered of course and she refused to let him talk to Cathy. We would NEVER recommend any of our friends or family to work with this group. My husband and I are newlyweds looking for our first home together and [redacted] took advantage of us and lied to us, breaking a verbal contract she made with us. There are lots of young professionals in Lafayette right now and they would be wise to stay away from this real estate group.
