J&K Salvage Reviews (17)

We had J & K Salvage pick up the dumpster in September.  We are supposed to be paid by whatever the going weight of the metal is.  After repeated calls to get payment for our metal, I filed a claim with The Attorney General's office.  When J & K Salvage got the letter from...

them, they sent us a check for $65.00.  The dumpster was loaded with heavy steel including a frame to a trailer and a big metal tank along with many other things.  In the past, when we have taken things in a load like this would have brought close to $1,000 dollars.  There argument is that the price of metal is down, so that is the reason the the check is only for 65.00.  In the past we have had issues with non-payment and only were paid when I contacted the Attorney General's office.  I have requested additional information from J & K.  I was told that when a dumpster is brought in, a picture of it is taken.  I have requested a picture of the dumpster and also documentation of the weight that they are saying it was.We have done business with J & K for years and it has only been in the past few years, that we have had problems.  If I wouldn't have pressed the issue, I don't believe we would have been paid anything.  Every time I called, I was told to call back, or call the accounting office and leave a message.  I never got through to the accounting office to talk to anyone personally, and my messages weren't returned.  I have read the Revdex.com reviews of other customers that have had the same issues.I appreciate any help you can give me.Thank you.

Customers are told when they receive their ticket that it could take 30-90 days to receive payment.

Review: I sold a running and insured car to J&K for salvage. The cashier said they pay by check in the mail. She stated the company was in excellent financial shape and there was no change in ownership or anything that would delay being paid. I junked the car on 9/7/2013. The amount they said I would be mailed was 475$. I gave them the title and was given a ticket with mail check on it. I became concerned a couple of weeks later when a cousin of mine [redacted] of [redacted] Pa said he was now in his 3rd month waiting on a check from J&K for items he junked. I called several times and the cashier assured me they were going to mail a check, but that they only get two big checks a month and to please wait. She did say the owner of J&K is responsible for paying and she would let him or her a note. I feel this company may be in severe financial trouble and did not disclose it to me. In good faith I gave them my business and trusted I would be mailed a check for my car. J&K web searches seem to show a vibrant trustworthy company with several profitable enterprises in addition to the salvage operation. A lot of people haul junk because they need extra money. It is crumby that this company doesn't pay as they promise. In my opinion it is deception and by not being paid it is theft by deception.Desired Settlement: I would like paid for my car. If there is a financial or cash flow problem this should be disclosed to customers and should be publicized for all to see to avoid complaints like this. It is a poor economy and it is wrong for J&K Salvage to be taking advantage of it for any reason whatsoever.

Review: I took scrap copper and aluminum to J&K Salvage. They weighed the material and told me that they would pay me $45.90 for the scrap metal. When I went to the cashier to collect the cash, I was given a printed ticket that the cashier wrote on "not paid IOU". When I asked why I was not getting the cash, the cashier replied "we don't have any cash today". I asked when they would have cash and he replied "I don't know. The boss tells us each day if we have any cash. You can come back Monday and see if we have any." I called Monday and was told that they didn't have cash that day either. I asked when they would have cash and he replied, once again, "I don't know. The boss tells us each day whether we have cash or not." I asked to speak to the "boss", and was told he was in the yard, and he would leave him a note with my phone number and he would get back to me. I received no response, so I left an e-mail message on their website to please call or e-mail me to tell me when I can pick up my cash. I still have not received any response. So, they took my scrap metal and, for some reason, have not been able to rustle up $45.90 to pay me.Desired Settlement: I want them to contact me, explain why they take product and don't pay for it, do not respond to inquiries, and tell me when I can collect the cash due to me. I do not want a check from them, because their inaction thus far has led me to distrust the validity of any check issued by this business.

Review: On 9/4/2013 I took a Jeep Grand Cherokee in for scrap for $431.00. I was told that they were out of cash but they would give me an "IOU" receipt and I could come back another day for payment. I have called every morning since then and am told they don't have any money to pay me.

Review: My husband and I took our vehicle to a J & K Salvage to scrap it because it was non-repairable. We were to receive $371 for the vehicle. We received a ticket and were told to go to an on-site ATM to retrieve the money. The ATM never has any money in it. We have not received our money yet, and feel like we probably never will. This was over two weeks ago. We have learned that they do this often to people. They take scraps, vehicles, metals and issue tickets and then do not pay the customers.Desired Settlement: The vehicle that we gave to them needed to be scrapped because it was not working. My husband and I purchased a new vehicle. We would like to receive the money that we were to be given for the vehicle that we scrapped.

Review: On 10/05/2013 my 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was towed by J&K Salvage from my private parking lot attached to the property of my apartment. According to my lease, I am entitled to two parking spots in this parking lot. The spots are not labeled or numbered or even disclosed to specific spots in the lease or by signage. J&K Salvage claimed that they had the authorization of the owner of the property to remove the vehicle; however, the owner was contacted by myself as well as the leasing company and they did not authorize such towing. My car was dragged, while in park approximately 6 feet possibly damaging my transmission and tires to be loaded onto a rollback, and while doing so, the hook used to drag my vehicle damaged my frame. Upon pickup of car, I was charged $165 for towing and storage that should have not happened. The landlord and leasing agent have confirmed that I do have permission to park in this lot, so why was my car towed, and furthermore, why was my car damaged in doing so? I contacted my insurance company to report the damage inflicted, and they wanted J&K Salvages insurance companies information. When I called and when my insurance agent called, we were denied this information. Since my car was towed on Saturday, I was forced to miss work on Sunday the sixth which was a mandatory 12 hours of overtime. I am seeking damages, towing, and lost wages to settle this claim.Desired Settlement: I am seeking the cost of repair of frame, inspection of transmission by mechanic, $165 for towing, $144 for lost wages, daily fee for inconvenience, and cost of repair for broken taillight and dent on passenger quarter panel.

We were authorized by the land owner and attached is a signed form designed by the City of [redacted]. At the time of tow our driver and land owner go around car and list any damages and take pictures of vehicle as seen on form also.

The car was towed on a roll back using skates under the wheels so NO damage is done.

Tow bill attached as tow was $105 and $60 for the use of skates because of no keys. They have 24 hours free of storage to pick car up.

As far as a Saturday tow we have personal on duty 24 7 so at any time a vehicle can be picked up.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

It was indicated that the owner of the property has to authorize towing before the car is removed. Indicated "owner" is a person by the name of [redacted], and this is not the owner of the property nor does this individual have any authority over the parking lot where I was parked. I acknowledge that the business listed on the form does indeed lease one parking spot in the five car lot; however, the parking spots are not marked or numbered in any way therefore, how can J&K Salvage verify that I was parked in "their" parking spot? I am entitled to two parking spots in that lot that were never designated. The "owner" of the lot and property has my vehicle information and would have contacted me in the six months that I have lived here if it was an issue. My car was unlawfully towed because someone claimed to own the property and with no proof provided, claimed that the spot where my car was parked was "theirs". What proof did J&K Salvage receive to verify that the parking spot in question was the property of [redacted]?

Review: On May 5 2014 I took a total of 37 pounds of battery, 9 lbs of copper, 54 lbs of aluminum and 820 lbs of light iron for a total price of $129.00 to J&K Salvage in [redacted], Pa. After unloading the material at there location, I was given two Pay By ATM vouchers from them and was told that they had no cash to give today and to call tomorrow after 10:00 to see if she had money in the ATM. Today is May 19, 2014 and I have called every day, excluding Sundays and have been told every day thathey do not have the cash to take care of the vouchers.Desired Settlement: I want the money owed to me. What about the people that depend on selling scrap to make a living? If they can not pay for the scrap, they should not take it.

Review: On August 15, 2013 a J&K Salvage towtruck driver picked up my car to be salvaged. He double-checked my address and contact info I gave when I called 2 days prior to ensure they had the correct info to mail my check. I called the following week to check the status of my check and was told "it takes 4-6 weeks" to send the check to me. I thought that was ridiculous but at the time didn't have any reason to believe I would not receive my money.

I called again on October 2 because I had not yet received my check (almost 7 weeks after they took my car); the woman told me the amount would be $280.80 and she would put the info "on the owner's desk;" I asked how long it would take to get my check and she didn't know. I called again on October 14 and that woman confirmed the amount but thought it must still on the owner's desk. Being that is was not her fault, I politely expressed my frustration to her, I need this money, I did NOT donate the car, and I don't understand what is taking so long. She could not explain the delay to me, but was professional and said she would tell the owner that I need my money right now. It is October 21 and I still have not received payment for my car that was salvaged in August.Desired Settlement: I wish to receive the $280.80 that is owed to me for my salvaged car.

Review: I have delivered 4 loads of scrap for a customer to J & K Salvage ( 9/25, 9/26 and 9/27). I was given an I OWE U's on every load and told to check back daily for the money. I have been told "The boss will let the dispatcher know when the money is available". The customer is asking for his money and I can not give it to him. I am worried the money will never be there. I checked J & K's status with the Revdex.com and see that other people have had the same problem. I need to get this problem resolved. You can not talk to the the Boss and no one will answer in accounting.Desired Settlement: I would like CASH payment as soon as possible. I would also like the company investigated and a stop put to these practices. I have learned my lesson and will never do business with them again!

Review: J&K Salvage receives scrap metal. They have started to issue IOUs for materials delivered to their salvage yard. We have three (3) IOUs dating back to April 2013 for materials received and not paid for. We have contacted J&K six (6) times and each time we are told they are processing the IOUs. To date, July 15, 2013 we have not received any payments.Desired Settlement: We want paid for the materials delivered to the salvage yard.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Regards,

Review: On Sept 4, 2013 I took a load of light iron scrap weighing 700 lbs to the salvage yard, the ticket (#[redacted]) was issued for $77.00 but I was informed they had no cash to pay for the scrap. I informed them that I had additional scrap to bring in Sept 11, 2013. At that time [redacted] told me I could bring in the ticket to be paid the $77.00. On my return today I was paid in cash for the current load but was told they had no cash for the unpaid $77.00 ticket because "the boss did not give him cash today. " I was also told that someone had just brought in a ticket from 6 weeks ago and they were also unable to get cash. Upon a phone call to J & K my wife was told go ahead and take it to court because other people have tried and lost.Desired Settlement: Just pay the $77.00 owed.

Review: On June 1 2013, I delivered scrap metal to J&K Salvage. When checking out at scale house I was told they were out of cash, and would mail me a check for the $60 owed to me. I agreed, and they wrote "will mail check" on my receipt. After waiting for approx. 60 days, I contacted the accounting department to inquire about the check. Was told that I was "slated" to have a check sent to me, but was not informed as to when. Again, after approx. 30 days I phoned the dispatch office as I could not reach accounting and was told they still had no cash and I would have to call accounting. After multiple calls, (one placed today), I have had no further success in reaching accounting. There is also no way to leave a message for my call to be returned.Desired Settlement: I would simply like to be paid for the product I delivered.

Review: On 09/30/2013, I had taken my 1984 blazer into J & K Salvage in anticipation of receiving funds to pay for bills. I entered the scale, I stepped out and went to the window where the cashier was. Told him I had the whole vehicle to scrap, he said to pull it up in front of the garage after the scale. Upon returning to the cashier he stated that I need to e sign for payment. After signing, he hands me my receipt and proceeded to say that "They" owe me an IOU. So I was like OK... How do I get paid then? He said to call in every day and ask if they have money, or they could cut me a check. I said ok I guess cut me a check, he says oh, we don't write checks here! I had left with IOU in hand, the next three days I called in and asked if they had money and every time, it was we don't have any money today. The forth day of attempting to collect, I had called in and spoke with accounting and asked if they could just cut me a check. The nice lady from accounting said that she had filed the request, that she would put it on the bosses desk. I waited till Mon. the 7th of Oct., called in to accounting again and asked if they could let me know if a check was sent. She stated that a check was not issued, that she would put another note on the bosses desk! Called in that Wednesday and asked the same question, she said no check has been issued. I said how can you run a business when all you are doing is handing out IOU's? I said there is no reason why I should not have received my money by now... I take care of a one year old and needed that money to pay bills and put food on the table. She pretty much said there was nothing she could do. She then said we don't cut checks for four to six weeks. I said can you do me a favor and put one more note on the bosses desk, she said sure. I told her to put, there is no good reason why I haven't been paid and if there isn't a check in my mailbox by Fri. October 11th I will be contacting the Revdex.com. Today is 10/14/2013, still no check, no contact. Thank YouDesired Settlement: This ordeal has cause me great dismay, and has put me further behind on my bills then I can handle... All I want is for J & K Salvage to make good on their debt with me!!! Thanks again

Review: March 5, 2013 I took a load of scrap metal to the business, at the end of the exchange they said they did not have enough cash to compensate for my products. I was told that a check would be mailed to me within two weeks. I called three times to explain the situation and talked to the accountant who said that the check was there it just needed to be processed by the owner. I was told this the first and second time I called. Last week I called again and explained that I would be filing a complaint if I did not receive the check, the accountant said she would push the check and I still have yet to recieve it.Desired Settlement: I wish to be paid for the products given.
