To whom it may concern, We have a contract with the *** Police Department to tow vehicles at their requestWe received a document signed by the chief of police stating that we could tow a vehicle abandoned on the owner, *** ***’s,
propertyWe towed the vehicle and awaited the phone call of the ownerOur typical towing charges are $for the tow and $per calendar day for storageMs*** *** contacted us stating that the vehicle was towed illegally and that she was a tenant of Mr***’sShe also stated that she was disabled and could not afford to pay her towing and storing bill and would not have funds until a certain date but that by that date the charges would be too expensive for her to afford picking up her vanWe still have the document signed by the Chief of *** Police Department and until that document is considered null and void or we receive documentation overriding it, we have the right to hold her vehicle for storageWe have a small list of items that the owner’s are allowed to get out of their vehicles without having to pay charges (things such as medications, prescription glasses, child car seats and similar items)To piany other items, the owner has to pay the charges up-to-date We attempted to reach a compromise a little over a month after receiving the vehicle by offering the belongings in the van in exchange for $(which was a huge discount) and the title of the vehicle (as it was not running)It is a hindrance for us to get rid of the van as there are very few scrap and recycling facilities that will take a van such as hers due to the amount of fiberglass in themWe don’t want to keep her vehicle and we have attempted to resolve the issue at a great loss to usWe understand and sympathize with Ms*** but we are a businessWe need either documentation stating to release the vehicle at no cost or we need the charges (or in this case the discounted charges) to be paidIf there are any other questions or concerns, please contact us as soon as possible.
