I went on an
initial visit to [redacted]'s home regarding two zones of the radiant heat
system controlling a bedroom, bathroom and playroom, as per his request.  The zones that were in question were Valve
One, Two, Three and Four.  These valves
were non-operational.  I had asked...

what previous work had been done to these zones, and he and his wife, [redacted],
explained to me that they had hired an HVAC contractor that had been there at
least four times, working on these zones. 
After extensive
troubleshooting and repairs, these zones were operational.  [redacted] said everything else was working fine
and because of this I did not do any further troubleshooting or work on his hydronic
system.  I did not inspect the boiler
itself, other than to visually see it as I spoke to him in the mechanical room (again,
because he had no complaints other than the two zones.)  From the visual, all appeared well at that
time.  The only things I charged him for
were parts and labor as they related to repairing the two zones that were the
reason for the visit, along with the installation of a kitchen faucet, and work
under his kitchen sink.  I did not charge
him for the work performed on the installation of his gas standing fireplace
and the time spent troubleshooting his electrical on the East side living room
wall.
Several
weeks later [redacted] had a Full Home Inspector come out to inspect his home
in the course of selling it and several other issues were discovered with his
hydronic system. 
[redacted] called
me and was very upset and demanding that I make the repairs at no additional
cost 'since he had already paid me'.  I
tried to explain to him that these items on the Inspector's list related to
other aspects of his hydronic system and were unrelated to the zone project that
I had repaired.  He did calm down so I
agreed to go out to review his hydronic system. 
Upon arrival I did verify that the two zones I had previously worked on
were in operational condition.  A third
zone was not operational and this 3rd zone was Not part of my original project.  I started troubleshooting the various items
that the inspector had found issues with on his hydronic system inspection. 
In the course
of this troubleshooting, [redacted] followed me very closely.  At one point in our conversation he said that
he needed me to provide him with a letter stating that the hydronic system was
in good working order.  I explained to
[redacted] that there were other issues (non-boiler related issues) that were
creating the findings on the inspection report.  He again said that he needed "that letter".
I told him I did not feel comfortable putting this letter together because that
would put the liability and financial responsibility on me.   
At this
point I felt that we were not a good fit to continue working together and I gathered
my tools, my crew and we left. 
[redacted] called
me later and left a voicemail again wanting "the letter".  I did not respond to his call.  He later emailed me and this time, rather
than requesting 'a letter stating that his system was operational',  he instead asked for an "invoice".   
In
Summary: 
I completed
a project involving two zones of the hydronic system and these two zones were
operational upon completion, and were also operational during the second visit
to [redacted]'s home. 
During my
second visit to [redacted]'s home, in the course of my troubleshooting, a new test
pump was installed, and was left on his system. 
There will be no charge for this pump, no warranty, no charge for the
troubleshooting, no invoice and no letter stating that the system is fully operational.    
I have done
everything possible to be fair, honest and professional with this customer.
