Took money. Never finished the job. Scam artists. Changed company name. His real name is ( Todd ***) google it

I hired Todd to removed old deck and install new deck. Job was started late. He finally started the project. During the project I asked him if he can do the front deck as well. We agreed to price $700. He asked me he is short on money if I can pay him full amount for the deck plus front deck 700. He showed up next day and took his tools left all the garbage and took my money & never finish the project. Everytime I call or text he will say my truck broke down, I am busy etc but yet he have a time for other project. Than I happened to search his name on google and found out he have done this to many people under Tjs handyman and scam elders and he was on ABC news. My uncle is sheriff & I told him he did some work and found out that he is a biggest scam artist, went to court so many time for civil and of course fraud charges as well.
I filed a police report, for stealing & misrepresenting. My next step is to file civil but I can't until police resolve this matters. Even police pulled his record and said he is a scam!!

He did some minor work for me at a property I put up for sale. When I moved to a new home, asked him to quote a new deck. He wanted an architect to review property survey to make sure it met "code." Gave him $500 for the architect report. Never got a report only a text that adding a deck would not meet code. I got no report because he likely never consulted with an architect. I was ripped off and would NEVER recommend anyone use this guy for remodeling work.

What a criminal! Stole our money. Did 5 hours of work ! Ruined my plumbing. A con artist ! Look out for him. This man is going around preying on elderly and women . He never showed to finish. I did grab the plates on the vehicle on this guys and filed a police report. Call the police if he comes to your house. Look up the mug shot online too from a previous case

Mr. came to my house on the 16th day of August and his terms were 1/3 up front, 1/3 when he starts, and 1/3 when he finishes. I told him I am someone that likes to take care of the bill up front and paid the whole $3,000.00. My contract that he had me fill in as we were going along states that he would start on August 27th. His states the week of August 27th. I texted him on August 26th to see when he was going to start since he had not contacted me. He told me he was busy and would make it most likely Thursday August 30th. He did not reach out to me again. Thursday came and I texted him at 9:33 a.m. and because he did not respond, I instant messaged him on *** at 5:37 p.m. Still no response. On Friday August 31st, I again tried to text him at 6:08 p.m. and he did not respond. On Saturday Sept. 1st I tried to call him at 10:30 a.m. and he did not respond. I then instant messaged him again on *** at 3:55 p.m. and he still would not pick up or respond. On Sunday September 2nd at 11:35 a.m. I called him 3 times and he did not answer. I tried again at 11:56 a.m. and left a message that I was going to the police. He finally at 1:00 p.m. texted me back saying he had a hell of a week and that he would call me later in the day. I told him I was going to the police. I then explained that he breached the contact by not starting the job on the 27th as my signed contract says and that he needed to return my money due to the breach of contract. He stated that his contract said the week of the 27th and that I now breached the contract by asking for my refund. I never cancelled the contract. I just stated to him that he was in breach. Even if it was the week of the 27th, that would mean Sunday August 26th-Saturday September 1st. I have never had a contractor work on a Sunday. He then said the check never cleared. I have contacted *** to email a copy of the front and back of the check to prove he cashed it. Later in our conversation he stated I only had 3 days to cancel and per Lisa ***, I was not going to get the deposit back anyways. I then called him out for double talking as he had stated he never got the funds and then he said I would never get them back If he had started the job I could understand, but no services were ever rendered. I know that he has done this to several other people now and that there is a group on *** that has banded together. He is currently being sued in small claims by many others and he countersues or does not show up. I do not trust this man to come into my house now to even try to start the work. He has also been known to start work and never finish. I do not want my house ripped apart and for him to leave the job site like that. I have a signed copy of the receipt, a signed contract with both signatures and also stating paid in full with our initials, his liability insurance and his bonding company, all logs of attempted contact, and the string of texts of all of our conversations. None of which stated that I terminated the contract.
I am looking to just receive my $3000.00 back. I do not trust this man after his threats and now that I have done a background check, I do not want him near my house of family. I could ask for damages as now I will have to pay more for someone else to come out and do the job and also the time delay of completing these jobs. I do not want all of that. I just want the $3000.00 for breach of contract and services not rendered.

+1

PLEASE BE AWARE YOU'LL END UP GETTING SCAM !

TJ was hired to perform deck work at my property of *** Ave, Fox River grove IL 60021. Work included replacement of rotted decking, rebuilding entry gate to deck, cupola work on gazebo, new door on gazebo and rescreening gazebo. Quote was for $1850 and accepted. Work commenced 4-19-18 was assured work to be completed within 72 hours. TJ requested 1/3 payment up front for $650 which was paid 4-19, $600 after initial day of work and remaining $600 upon completion.

Initial demo work performed 4-19 and then TJ repeatedly delayed the work and provided many personal excuses; i.e. divorce, low on funds, vehicle problems, child custody hearings, etc. He came back on 4-23-18 with "some" materials and equipment and spent approx 7 hours at the property and left with 25% of the work completed.

On 4-29-18 I was assured the job would be completed and by 5pm of 4-29 there was little to no progress. TJ begged for the last payment of the $600 balance to be paid in cash and I declined as it was Sunday without access to such funds but did agree to pay him $300 cash $300 check (which has been cashed) for assurance job was completed on 4-30-18. He stated he would leave his equipment at my home for "collateral" to ensure that he would complete the job. I arrived home on 4-30-18 to a non-completed job, damage to property from him ripping a gate off in a hurry to load up and leave my house along with oil from his truck in my driveway and his equipment gone along with all materials which I suspected he returned for the cash. Local policy have been contacted and a report filed for theft and vandalism, however police stated this is a civil matter.

I am seeking 50% of what I paid TJ, $925. The job was left half completed and he took all materials which were mine as I paid his entire quote. Also of importance, I have since learned that he has scammed multiple others in the Chicago suburbs and will be attending a small claims hearing for another scam on Aug 2, not related to this.

This is untrue. We had a contract for the work. I had all materials purchased and half the work done. They were flexible on the schedule at first being I squeezed them into my busy schedule. Yes I packed my tools and materials up because it was supposed to storm and I wasnt going to leave them laying outside. I was unable to be there one day. And Paul texted me demanding.I make it there that day. I advised him there was no way that I could but that I would be there the following day to finish up. He then said if I didnt come that day as he demanded then not to come at all and cancelled the contract.

Contract states that after 3 days of contract signing that the contract shall remain in full force for as long as ot takes for the work to be complete. He beached contract in not allowing me to come finish the work

Im sorry you think that sir. But according to the contract that you read and signed. You breached the contract and as the contract states. If the homeowner is in breach of contract then the contractor had the right to sue in small claims court for the entire dollar amount of the contract regardless of any amount that might have already been paid. Work was started materials were purchased. I packed my tools up so they didnt get poured on. It was impossible for me to be there the following day. You demanded I be there that following day I explained to you I couldnt. You gave an ultimatum saying be there that day or your cancelling the work. Me not being there that day in no way breached contract. You giving me that ultimatum and cancelling the work did breach the contract. Therefore according to the contract that again you read in full and signed I am entitled to file a claim for the entire dollar amount of the contract. All personal feelings aside a contract is a contract and that is what stands legally. Ask a laywer im sure hell be happy to explain this to you. My contract was written by a lawyer and looked at by another lawyer.
