A great father who treats his clients like family
Do you bring up your affair baby on business calls? Can you stay brave while staring down old ladies? Is the company you do this under named after your dead kid? If you answered "yes" to all these questions then you are Kelvin Hayes Robins Jr.

Our hero's journey truly begins around New Year's 2019, when he made the news ( https://abc13.com/scammed-by-contractor-hurricane-harvey-pods-repossessed/499681... ) for not only scamming a woman with terminal cancer out of $19,000 but demolishing the elderly woman's home in the process. A modest man, Kelvin caught wind of the story before it aired and tried to stay nameless.

"The contractor has been calling quite a bit. He's been texting my mother, he's been begging her not to air the story, he's been calling her and crying. He's been quite upset, even to the point where he asks her doesn't she care about his newborn baby." - A family member
But how much did Kelvin care for this baby? The child's grateful mother let us know by thanking him on his Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1395584700662473
https://www.facebook.com/kelvin.robins.39/posts/landscaping-deals-are-hot-today/... /> https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1386766914877585

Their claims are supported by Kelvin's Child Support Delinquent Payor record ( https://archive.ph/NY238#selection-2885.0-2887.9 ). To summarize:
1. Kelvin was married at the time and the baby was the product of an affair
2. Within 4 months of the story, Kelvin walked out on this child and another so he'd
3. Have more money to "take care of hoes"

We can see Kelvin was a loving father, too loving for just one partner, and took fatherhood so seriously that he became one at 13. If this early start isn't enough, he's naming "Jay-Starr" businesses using Jay, his deceased daughter's first name ( https://archive.is/TAloN#selection-1079.9-1079.12 ) and Starr, a second daughter's middle name ( https://archive.is/TAloN#selection-1579.1617-1579.1623 ). Years after her death he was still posting Facebook updates as "Jay-Starr Tree and Outdoor Services" ( https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552056358813 ), his way to remember Jay and to steal.

This started by renaming his newsworthy company to "Jay-Starr Construction" ( https://archive.is/IiPDL ), insuring both daughters shared in his legacy. Jay-Starr then joined "Certified Home Improvements" in disgrace by being fined, an unexpected tragedy. To make the best of a bad situation, Kelvin put his children first by making sure his biggest fine of $25,500 went to Jay-Starr ( https://wwwcfprd.doa.louisiana.gov/boardsandcommissions/MeetingMinutes/475_12%20... ).

Despite this fine and stop order, Kelvin is still publicly following his newest "Jay-Starr" company on Facebook. In his defense, poor Kelvin may be confused as he gets mixed messages. In October 2020 the LDAF gave Kelvin, with his exclusive 708002 zip code, a new horticulture license ( https://www.ldaf.state.la.us/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/LH-LIST-10302020.pdf ). They had also given him 3 fines and stop orders at this point.

Dialogue would likewise break down between Kelvin and his family. Despite his heroic efforts to keep the family together, trying everything from renaming a newsworthy business after his children to giving them surprise half-siblings, his marriage would not survive all those late nights in the office doing tree work.

Eventually his family found even the extra siblings were not enough and parted ways. Before dying, Jay also changed her last name to "James" ( https://archive.is/TAloN#selection-379.18-379.23 ). This was done because she felt unworthy after watching his efforts, such as skipping work to go to their birthdays. Still, this left Kelvin worrying his child died hating him, and still worrying despite her Father's Day posts. These posts were memorable from the way she always used another man's name and picture by accident.

And such is the bitter end of something beautiful. Let this be a lesson for the fathers: Work hard but have time for your wife, kids, and affair babies.

Kelvin still does a lot for his children through his work, but also treats clients like his own flesh and blood. He first solicits someone, usually a woman, for work and claims he needs an advance payment to "feed him and his crew" ( https://archive.is/x4b2i#selection-1473.1-1482.0 ). If he doesn't consider this an appearance fee and leave, he'll complete the job in 3 easy steps:
1. As happens with skilled contractors, Kelvin will start by messing things up
2. Then demand more to finish, also standard practice
3. And repeating 1 and 2 until it's all done.

If the woman won't pay for a job well done, poor Kelvin has to say the silent part out loud ( https://archive.is/Hj0SL#selection-1305.0-1305.614 ).

Despite being provoked like this by mean old ladies, both Kelvin and his partner, Johnny Lee Tolliver, have no criminal records. It's almost like knowing where your clients live makes them think twice before pressing charges.

Kelvin's work is not limited to destroying the lives of old ladies or his children. He also registered many businesses in his name including "Major League Music" ( https://archive.is/n3f6g ), then published an album with Johnny just before Major League closed. It's got killer beats.

Johnny's work isn't just music or elder abuse either, he also sells dogs. As one commenter said when the dog was sold, "I feel sorry for that pup lol but good job on the deal cuz". This is a normal way to congratulate a man when he sells a dog, and certainly doesn't hint that Kelvin treats animals with the same gentle kindness as old ladies. And in the off chance it does, the world is a poorer place without Major League Music and its next hit single, "Who made the dogs die".

Kelvin's stellar character has not gone unnoticed and some customers have given Kelvin's businesses positive reviews, customers who all happen to write like a high school dropout who alternates between calling Kelvin and his men "I", "we", and "a bunch of monkeys" ( https://archive.is/PLdeT#selection-1439.54-1439.100 ). As the positive review didn't include pictures, an artist's depiction is added.

There's one thing we all agree on at this point, and we know what it is: These men were raised right by their fathers and learned to care about more than just getting things. And they do, they care about getting lots and lots of things. They learned to value mental health too and found living this way makes thoughts that trouble lesser men like "you're better than this" fade away with their count of the lots and lots of things. Spiritual fulfillment is also handled due to being unneeded with no soul. I can hear some objections, and yes, this life has its drawbacks, for instance running low on places to hoard your lots and lots of things. And yes, men this great may wonder how they will be treated in their old age. But each man can remember that in many-a nursing home there's grandmas torn from trashed homes because he wanted lots and lots of things, thus making many grandmas very sad and their southern families very mad. With this reminder, he can put any worries to rest knowing that no, he won't need to plan for his golden years and yes, he has lots and lots of things.

Evil
When we see the sick, the old, or the powerless, we want to reduce their suffering. This need to help rather than hurt the ailing comes naturally to us across class, color, and creed and is what makes us human.
You can find out everything you what Kelvin Hayes Robins Jr. is by just searching for his name. One of the first results is an article from New Year's 2019 about him scamming a woman with terminal cancer out of $19,000 and leaving her house demolished [ https://abc13.com/scammed-by-contractor-hurricane-harvey-pods-repossessed/499681... ] . However, this article does not tell the full story. Searching for his full name will also tell you how he abandoned that baby he kept emotionally blackmailing a dying cancer patient with [ https://archive.ph/NY238#selection-2855.0-2855.19 , https://archive.is/FT1RZ/d9235bda20c9fb0603cc05c79d30b2883144a04b.webp https://archive.is/FT1RZ/210eee3cb8ee1c15a677a774812aa9c8a7500d4b.webp https://archive.is/FT1RZ/75ab58df38004a3ce57bce79ab4fef9596f4bac5.webp ] . You will also learn that, despite his claims of poverty when he demands advance payment from the old and sick [ https://archive.is/x4b2i#selection-1473.1-1482.0 ], he and his partner, Johnny Lee Tolliver, have posted pictures on their social media showing off:
1. A BMW
2. An expensive company-branded truck and a horse
3. Another horse
4. A gold watch
5. A gold chain

These [ https://archive.is/cXItN ] are the spoils of a life spent preying on the old and sick. And Kelvin and his men are not content to just lie to and cheat old ladies. Women have referred to the owner as "dangerous" [ https://archive.is/iEZko#selection-1695.25-1695.51 ] and one very brave woman stated that when she did not give the owner the money he demanded, he threatened to start hurting her and her family [ https://archive.is/Hj0SL#selection-1305.294-1305.335 ]. Despite her justified fear, this woman not only spoke of her experience but also reported the owner to the police. She did this knowing full well that the owner and his men know exactly where she lives and despite Kelvin's threat. These are just the women who spoke out despite his threats, many more quietly gave him what he wanted and still remain silent to protect their families and themselves.
Kelvin is also not content to be remembered alone for his schemes. This man has renamed the company he uses to threaten and steal from the powerless after two unfortunate daughters from his marriage, now creating a chain of fake Jay-Starr businesses such as this one on Facebook [ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552056358813 ]. He created this name using his eldest daughter's nickname [ https://archive.is/TAloN#selection-1079.9-1079.12 ] and his younger daughter's middle name [ https://archive.is/TAloN#selection-1579.1617-1579.1623 ]. Not only that, he linked them back to what he did to a dying woman with cancer by renaming the exact same "Certified Home Improvement" company, first to Jay-Starr Construction and then to Jay-Starr Tree and Landscaping [ https://archive.is/IiPDL ]. Because of what Kelvin has done and the times he brings up his daughters before threatening the elderly, most people's memories of his two daughters from times when Kelvin used their names before he started threatening to hurt them or their families.
We all know of and some of us have survived the evil few around us, monsters from all walks of life who used any scrap of power they had to hurt the ones we love. How many times have we or our loved ones asked how different life would be if we had a glimpse behind that mask? Now when you see Kelvin Robins, you finally can see that you are witnessing one of those monsters in the flesh.

1 09/01/08 https://archive.is/PLdeT#selection-1791.255-1791.318 NOTHING was done well, MUCH was left unfinished. 3 rose bushes and a couple other plants were killed. After I told them to leave alone a tree in the corner of the yard, they waited until I was offshore and conned my fianc into taking down a healthy tree. They were given a desist order (for doing lawn and landscaping) by a commission which body will have a hearing in December, I'm told, to determine if Robins should be fined or have his arborist license revoked. Description of Work: They were contracted to trim 2 trees, till the back yard, grade and sod the backyard, and add topsoil and mulch to the planting beds.
2 01/13/11 https://archive.is/Hj0SL#selection-1721.0-1729.29 The only reason there is a star is because the review requires it. Kelvin Robins needs to have minus 10 stars at least. And I suggest you avoid any Robins tree service because the family has allowed Kelvin to continue his conning ways. Some of the family members actually do the work for him or cover as his arborist.. Kelvin himself is unlicensed and not an arborist. WATCH OUT. Get insurance papers and then call the insurance company to make sure it is still in effect. Do not respond to solicitations at your door. Check with the Dept. of Agriculture. We learned this the hard way.
3 08/22/11 https://archive.is/Hj0SL#selection-1513.0-1513.376 Should've trusted my gut instincts! Not professional at all but certainly were able to befriend us into a contract, which by the way, they did not complete the job and took off with our money. We trusted them and shouldnt have. Wish we would have done our research! I have to agree with previous comments...stay as far away from any tree company with the name Robins in it!
4 10/11/14 https://archive.is/Hj0SL#selection-1305.0-1305.614 This man is a crook, con, thug & bully! Not only did he begin work that we had discussed we would be interested in doing in the FUTURE when we had the $, but he did it without us home. Came home from work to find my fence gone & he started the project. Then when we said we couldn't pay him, he threatened to beat my husband & myself. He was unprofessional from day 1. His brother in law is the only ethical person. I had to call the sherriifs department to come out bc we were afraid to leave our home. Do not trust him. I'm still afraid bc he is so unstable. He doesn't deserve a star but it was required.
5 10/11/14 https://archive.is/iEZko#selection-1695.25-1695.51 Crooked. Unprofessional. Kelvin Robins is dangerous. Stay away from this business.
6 03/03/15 https://archive.is/iEZko#selection-1601.0-1601.26 Don't ever hire this trash. He just take the money from people. I hope we can United and put this garbage in jail for good. So he can't steal from our hard work anymore. I wish to research and never give him a place to live and a job. Please send all your complains to court like I did.
7 04/02/16 https://archive.is/0429K Recommend to watch out for this unlicensed contractor. He begins jobs, force payment and does not complete the project(s). Online review shows multiple complaints and violations; in addition, to working without proper license “arborist.” Such complaints go back to 2008 and most recent as 2014. He was reported to the Better Business Bureau and the Horticulture Commission.
8 03/07/18 https://archive.is/x4b2i#selection-1473.1-1482.0 DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Kelvin Robins, the owner of Certified Home Improvements of Baton Rouge, is a fraud. His construction license is expired and he has no insurance -(call Louisiana State Licensing Board). He has a contract with us to work on our house in Houston, Texas. The contract stated that the home would be complete in one month. It's been 4 months and they only had drywalls and paints 80% done - NOTHING ELSE. Also, their works are very sloppy. We regret that we paid him most of the amount in the contract. He would cry nearly everyday and beg for money to feed him and his crew. Basically, we were swindled. He took advantage of us, hurricane Harvey victim. Shame on them.
9 09/30/19 https://www.facebook.com/kelvin.robins.39/posts/pfbid02CanWY3NtYndCKYk2DpZJ4gpaV... Tried several times to reach back out before leaving a negative review yall busted my main sewer line and I need to speak with someone. Never picked up the debris left or the deck, left trash all over my backyard, not to mention the back fence. This is so unacceptable and unprofessional not to mention. Dept of agriculture is now saying there is no license. I need to know the insurnace company if there is one. How can yall prey on people and damage property and just never come back and apparently I'm not the only one.
10 05/10/21 https://archive.is/Jswiu#selection-1057.0-1057.10 I am writing this letter to lodge a complaint about an unfinished job and damage to property. *** *** and *** *** took a badly damaged tree down in my yard Feb.20, 2021 after the ice storm. TO date they have not satisfactorily completed the job in spite of many contacts to request completion. They are also responsible for the damage to the sidewalk. Because of prior positive experience with *** ***, I thought they were trust worthy and paid for the job after the tree was down. Please refer to the timeline of events, transcripts of text messages, and pictures for more detail. I am submitting this complaint because I feel frustrated, helpless, and taken advantage of. I would guess that I am not alone in this, and other people may have had similar experiences. Any help that can be offered in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Feb. 20 2021 *** *** approached me about taking down a large pine in the front yard. It was extensively damaged in the ice storm, and *** said they could take it down that afternoon as they were already working in the neighborhood. We agreed to $2000.$1800 for the tree, $200 to grind the stump. *** assured me all debris would be collected and hauled away. Ruts and damage to the yard would be filled in. They took the tree down quickly and let the large cut sections fall to the ground at will. Because of the hour *** *** who actually took down the tree asked if they could grind the stump the next day. I agreed. I also agreed to permit him to store his grinding equipment in my back yard. I understood they would finish the next day. *** asked for a check so I paid them for the work since I had already had a positive experience with ***, the tree was down and the equipment to finish was in my back yard. Feb. 21, 2021 The next morning a worker backed ***'s truck down my driveway, connected the grinder and left. Late that afternoon, I confronted both *** and *** in the neighborhood about not finishing the job. They said it was too wet in my yard to finish it, and they would do it later. I asked them not to cash the checks until the job was finished. No response to that. I left. Feb. 22 2021 Sections of the tree and debris were hauled away. A large pile of branches that had fallen during the storm was left in a big pile at the street. The yard still contained quite a bit of tree branches and pieces. No one came to grind the stump. *** and *** cashed the checks. Feb. 23 2021 1 begin my campaign via text to get this job completed. I had lost confidence since they cashed the checks after I asked them not to and did not return to grind the stump. Feb. 26 2021 *** *** grinds the stump, but leaves a large heavy cross section of tree trunk. I asked him if he ground thoroughly as there was a large pile of chips that obscured a section of the stump. He said that he had. I asked him to remove the piece of tree trunk, and he said he would send someone back for it. He also offered to fix the damaged sidewalk for $1500. It is important to note here that the sidewalk was damaged by the free fall of sections of the tree. I had not brought it up since I had not examined it carefully and was at the time preoccupied with the stump grinding and piece of tree that needed to be gone. I told him I would give his offer some thought. Feb. 27 2021 till now currently no one has been back in my yard to complete any of the cleanup, fill ruts, or haul away the piece of the trunk. Over time I have done the restoration myself. That is how I found the section of the stump that was not ground and the extensive damage to my sidewalk. I have not approached either man about the sidewalk since clearly *** *** does not feel responsible, and I am wary of that confrontation.
11 11/17/21 https://archive.is/ro766#selection-1177.0-1177.8 I signed a contract to have two trees removed and during project, I added another tree close to my house. I advised him to be careful on the roof. After the job was complete, I noticed some damage to the gutter. I asked him to notify his insurance co.,but he chose not to notify them and said he would make the repairs. He refuses to make any effort to make repairs and will not return my phone calls . He has changed the name of his company to Robins tree and stump removal and is still doing work for others. The contract was for $6250.00 and I added $1000.00 for the extra tree. I would ask BBB to help me collect or at the least warn others of his neglect.
12 04/11/22 https://archive.is/mGdjX This man will take your money and run! Do not hire him! I spoke with several people after the fact of hiring him that he owes a lot of people money. We paid him over $10,000 and he did 25% of the work. When he told me he needed the money upfront because all of his credit cards were maxed out that should've been a red flag but me being trustworthy I wrote him a check. He talks a good game but doesn't follow through with the work!
13 06/02/22 https://www.facebook.com/kelvin.robins.39/posts/2318803911615950:231880391161595... Kelvin is a thief and a liar. Stay way from him. He will rip you off the first chance he gets. Owes everyone money and lies about paying. The Lord sees what he is doing to people and he will have to atone for his sins.
14 Unknown https://archive.is/uG0R3#selection-395.1-395.12 Per contract, Mr. *** of Certified Home Improvement of Baton Rouge would have our home complete repairs after hurricane Harvey in one month in the amount of $43,600.00. Four months have passed, the house is only at 30% done according to an independent inspector was sent out by the mortgage company. Here is the list of the services of what we paid but did not received or partially received: ' Mold remediation with certification ? did not receive ' Put up new drywalls and paint - 60% done ' Repair fireplace ? 50% done ' All doors, crown molding and trims, deposit for cabinets ? did not receive ' Electrical work ? did not receive Mr. would use personal hardship such as death in the family, daughter and wife birthdays for us to have pity on him so we would give him money upfront. He would cry and beg us to pay him and his crew food and hotel stays. In total, we have paid him more than $35,000. Moreover, after we signed the contract with Mr., we found out that his construction license and his insurance were expired prior to the contract date. 15 Unknown https://archive.is/uG0R3#selection-289.1-289.10 Firstly, it is unlawful to solicit and do work without being licensed to do tree trimming and landscape work. Kelvin is not licensed. Kelvin *** is soliciting business and doing work without a license. Also, Woodland Ridge is a "No Solicitation" neighborhood. Even if he is licensed, he is not supposed to be cold calling door to door solicitations of service. As far as the actual complaint. Charlotte *** and Kelvin *** negotiated a price of $2350.00 per written contract to grind/remove two stumps, trim ligustrums, trim the crepe myrtles, and trim trees. As of now, 4/30/19, the two stumps have not been removed, the crepe myrtles were not trimmed, and the ligustrums have not been trimmed. My mother ended up paying someone else to come trim the crepe myrtles. Kelvin *** did not remove debris. A city parish truck picked up debris about a week after trees were trimmed. Charlotte and Walter *** are elderly and disabled. They do not deserve to be approached, solicited, and straight-up ripped off. Having Kelvin *** come at a later date to complete the job is not desired. There are complaints from others claiming Kelvin threatened to physically assault the customers. It is feared he may threaten physical harm or retaliate in some manner. Also, while unlicensed, he is not be doing tree trimming and landscape work. A complaint with the Horticulture Commission has been file.
16 Unknown https://archive.is/uG0R3#selection-533.1-533.20 Certified Tree Care, LLC and CTC Home Improvements, etc. Principal Mr. Kelvin Robins is not a trustworthy contractor. He is a user and con-artist who pray on the kindness and trust of seniors in the various community. He left concrete paving job for our family incomplete and owing many of the contract suppliers holding the bag and did not pay for materials he requested. Do No Hire!

Kelvin and Johnny have both remained not only free but living like kings due to taxpayer-funded bureaucrats consistently erring on the side of compassion over justice. Compassion towards Kelvin and Johnny, mind you, not the old women they have consistently preyed on every second they remained free. Despite the article on Kelvin Robins scamming a woman with cancer coming out at New Year's 2019, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry actually listed him as a "Licensed Horticulturalist" in October 2020 according to their list published that month: https://www.ldaf.state.la.us/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/LH-LIST-10302020.pdf

Despite these men being given a 50th or 100th chance to turn their lives around by these meticulous LDAF bureaucrats who certainly took their responsibility to protect the public with the gravity it deserved, the acceleration of reviews mentioning Kelvin since 2020 suggest they actually ramped up exactly what they had done for over a decade to this point, victimize old ladies and sometimes physically threaten them to get those last few thousands. Who could have ever predicted that giving two violent men who had consistently profited by threatening old ladies official licensure could have turned out poorly. After all, it's not like one of the first results for "Kelvin Robins" is a news article about him scamming and emotionally blackmailing a woman with cancer. Of course, when Kelvin or one of his men finally carries through on his threats, those bureaucrats might be about as quiet as they were when they had the opportunity to stop them.

And let's be fair, it's not like their lax investigation and refusal to take any steps that required effort could have stopped this outcome. You know, the kinds of actions that would finally put Kelvin and Johnny in jail and away from the old ladies they can't help but go after. And maybe it could have prevented them from physically acting out threats Kelvin has made multiple times against multiple different women who are half his size and twice his age, but even then there's no feasible way about it. I mean, we can't expect those LDAF bureaucrats to skip their 20th snack or smoking breaks to take care of a pointless errand that would save so much hurt and maybe a woman's life. After all, to even ask them for something so cruel as doing their jobs would be downright inhumane.

Here are two pictures of Kelvin Hayes Robins Jr. Despite his lies about being penniless when he preys on the old and sick [ https://archive.is/x4b2i#selection-1473.1-1482.0 ], the first picture shows him buying a dog while wearing a gold watch and two different gold and diamond necklaces. That's what a dying woman's $19,000 bought him.

Firstly, it is unlawful to solicit and do work without being licensed to do tree trimming and landscape work.

Certified Tree Care, LLC and CTC Home Improvements, etc. Do No Hire!!!
