Mr*** came to my shop around the first week of April to discuss an upgrade to his existing stock brake system on his CamaroHe requested a Wilwood four wheel disc system, and a new brake booster because he believed it was badI called the manufacturer and was given
all the necessary part numbers to proceed with the jobI drafted a work order with all the required parts and laborMr*** agreed to have me do the work and made a prompt payment for everything. I received all the parts, installed them as called out by the manufacturerI installed the 2nd brake booster made all the necessary adjustments, and test drove the vehicleI kept Mr*** in the loop of the progressHe came to the shop several times during the course of the job and inspected my workHe stated several occasions how pleased he was with the work & everything I was doing I contacted Mr*** on May 12, 2017, and informed him that his vehicle was ready and to come by and test drive itI accompanied Mr*** on the test drive and explained the entire process on how to brehis new systemWe drove for several miles, he was extremely impressed with improvement in braking powerI explained to him how it was going to operate until the new system was completely broken inThe vehicle was tested, checked out, sound, and everything was correct and in perfect operational order upon deliveryI did exactly what I was hired to doI informed Mr*** that if he had any issues to please bring it back and I would be glad to take care of it. Mr*** was very happy with all of my work, thanked me and took the vehicle home that evening Three weeks later I was contacted by Mr*** and he mentioned an odd feel with the pedal. He said the brakes work great in the morning, but when it heats up the pedal gets a little firm and it becomes hard to breakI informed him that it sounds like a leak in the power brake booster, or he might not be getting enough vacuumHe said the brakes seemed to be dragging and its feeling weirdI told him to let it car cool down, and to check the pedal feel after firing it back upHe told me it still felt offI informed him not to drive the car and to bring it down first thing next weekMr*** insisted the new brake booster (2nd) was bad and that we should change it outHe said that he took it to his buddies shop and the brakes might be draggingI told him that I could not confirm that or diagnose the issue over the phone and that he must bring the car downI agreed to get a replacement brake booster coming and pay for it out of pocket and install it free of charge. We agreed on a drop off date of June 13, Mr*** brought the car back down June 13, as discussedI proceeded to inspect the vehicle, and could find nothing wrong with the installation, no leaks, no adverse wear, or anything rubbing that might have caused his issueI checked the brake booster, and found that the plunger rod might have been stickingI could find nothing else disconnected, wrong or out of placeI noticed that since it was here last Mr*** had installed a new auxiliary vacuum canister like I had mentionedHe said the booster was working much better but only had 5in of vacuum at idleI informed him that that was too little and that he needed 16-18in vacuum at idleI said that this is most likely the cause of the entire problemThe engine produces the necessary vacuum to allow the brake booster to operate effectivelyI told him that we should completely remove the brake booster or run a mechanical vacuum pump to assist the booster Mr*** wanted to keep a booster so I swapped out and installed the new brake booster that I had purchased (3rd)We checked & re-inspected the entire system, performed a function test, and the brakes were in operational orderMr*** took the vehicle home and once again thanked me for handling everythingHe sent me a text after taking the car back on 6/14/stating “Thanks again stops nice” Mr*** contacted me again later in June and wanted a list of all the part numbersI informed him that everything was correct for his year, make, and model vehicle, and that I was given these part numbers directly from the manufacturerThere can be no mistakeI agreed to do so and sent him all the information via text message on 6/27/ Mr*** contacted me once more around the second week of AugustHe claimed that the brake pedal was feeling odd but still braking properlyI informed him again on how to fix the obvious problem he was having with the brake booster by removing itHe wanted the part number or the brake booster again and felt it should be covered under warranteeI explained to him that the part was not bad and still working. The distributor at “*** ***” will not take returns on installed equipment, or any parts not used over daysHe insisted that I check and so I didI called *** *** later that day and they confirmed what I had told Mr*** I sent a detailed text to Mr*** on 08/16/describing “*** ***” return policy and tried once again to explain his issue with the brake boosterI gave him several options and information on how to correct his existing problem with the low engine vacuum. Mr*** then stated, “I put a vacuum pump on weeks back the brakes were working great”I then sent the part number for the brake booster to Mr*** as he requested Mr*** refused to let the issue goOn 08/22/he returned to my shopWe discussed everything again as I have told him repeatedlyHe must either remove the brake booster, run a hydraulic or mechanically driven vacuum pump to correct the issueI informed him that I’ve spent more than a reasonable amount with this issue, and there is nothing more I could doHe refused to take my advice and fix this issueHe still wanted a copy of the invoice from the purchase I made on the 3rd booster and to send it to his girlfriendI told him that I would look for it and get back to himHe sent me the email information to send the copy of my shop invoice That afternoon I received an email from “*** ***” stating my order was receivedI opened the email and it had my shop account info, and another brake booster part number *** being shipped to an unknown addressI immediately called Mr*** and asked “what was the meaning of this and who authorized use of my account?” I asked, “Why was another booster being sent to his address at my expense?” He became very argumentativeHe said his girlfriend had called “*** ***” and they agreed to send him another brake booster (4th)I told him at that point that I would handle it with “*** ***” and that I was done doing business with himMr*** had no permission or authorization to contact the distributor on my behalf, especially on parts that were not bad and not paid for by himThe receipt clearly shows another brake booster being purchased and sent to a different addressI did not place this orderThat afternoon this complaint was filed I went above and beyond to assist Mr*** with all that he asked…and he knows itI did everything that I was hired to doI gave him several solutions over the last months to fix a problem that he clearly admits having and made attempts to correct it himselfHe brought the car to me, as I asked, when it was having an issueI purchased the parts and did all of the additional maintenance at my expenseI was not hired to correct his vacuum problemI was hired to install an upgraded performance brake system of his choosingI’m not obligated to diagnose, repair, and correct any issue that has no open work order, was not paid for, or authorized to do soIf Mr*** felt the need to take the car to his “buddies” shop to add all these extra parts, try to fix his vacuum problem & inspect my work then that was on himMy work did not need to be inspected, that was all done before it left hereMr*** admitted to me that they could find nothing wrong, and stated several times that he was pleased with my workIt is not reasonable to ask a shop to warrantee parts that are not brokenIt’s clearly impossible for all of the brake boosters to have been badPlease refer to the included copies of the text messages with Mr***, the invoice, the receipts, *** E-mail, and the 3rd party technical informationThese prove without a doubt that these claims made against me are false *** *** (owner) Jay’s Hot Rods *** *** *** *** *
