CASE ID: *** :Our response to this claim is as follows: We are disappointed that Mr*** experienced a problemwith the furnace shortly after moving into the homePer your inspector as you indicated he said, thefurnace was close to the end of its life with only 3-years remaining and you
should expect repairs would benecessaryWarranties were available for purchase, you didn't purchase one per your submission.Additionally, the quotes and diagnosis you received are both very likely inaccurate and are very muchgrossly overpriced- I would suggest before you move forward with any repairs that you get a morereasonable and honest provider to work withIf, in fact, the older system that was near the end of its lifeper your own admission does in fact have all of these issues, they could not have possibly been there attime of inspection due to the simple fact that the unit ran which you were a witness to- without the"Motherboard" (control board would be a more appropriate word) nothing would turn onWithout the igniter,it wouldn't engage the flameWithout the gas valve, the flame wouldn't continueThese are not debatablepoints, they are mechanical facts that you can confirm with the engineering department of the manufacturerof your furnace (or any manufacturer for that matter)It isn't completely uncommon for HVAC salespeopleto sell systems to homeowners on premises and encourage replacements by offering outrageouspricing on simple repairs, unfortunately, but that has no bearing on whether or not we did our job- we didand we did it wellThe likelihood of you needing a new furnace is almost zero and the chance of thesecomponents being in non-functional condition at the time of inspection is non-existentAs to the cleanlinessof the unit, especially inside cabinets and ductwork, this is outside the scope of inspectionPlease reviewyour report where you will find this statement: "The inspection does not involve removal and inspectionbehind service door or dismantling that would otherwise reveal something only a licensed heat contractorwould discover." We have no interest nor obligation to participate in paying, in part or in full, for theinsanely overpriced and almost certainly unnecessary work you had performed.Mr*** was present during the entire inspection of the home and was satisfied with the inspectionand report that was provided and left a positive review for our inspector

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/12/14) */
Our response to this claim is as follows: We are disappointed that Mr. [redacted] experienced a sewage backup shortly after moving into the home. The sewage ejection pump was functioning during the inspection, and the prior owner was occupying the...

home and did not disclose a problem with the sewage ejection pump or the sewage disposal system. Mr. [redacted] states that the foundation drain tile sump pump is the problem and that it was not inspected when the source of the problem as Mr. [redacted] states is a sewage backup, this is an entirely different system. Mr. [redacted] was advised that our inspection excluded the private sewage disposal system and he should explore filing a homeowners insurance claim for any damages associated with a sewage backup.

Mr [redacted] was present during the entire inspection of the home and was satisfied with the inspection and report that was provided. Our inspector reported that that there was no foundation drain tile and sump pump system provided.
Mr. [redacted] contacted our office and advised that sewage had backed up into the basement. We advised Mr. [redacted] to please provide a technical support request via our website so our entire team could assist him as the nature of the problem sounded more like a homeowners insurance claim as the home is provided with a private sewage disposal system and has a sewage ejection pump, which is not a foundation drain tile sump pump. Mr. [redacted] refused to make a technical support request via our website and contacted our office numerous times demanding we repair this system.

I am rejecting this response because:
As per their response, after their inspection, they indicated that the furnace had 3-4 years remaining, minor repairs were to be expected, but not over $3,500 after 52 hours of owning the house.Whether I purchased a warranty or not should not matter as the the level of inspection that I was paying for.  I was paying for the house to be inspected, not to purchase additional warranties.I had to move forward quickly with repairs as the furnace stopped working on a Saturday, and the temperature was in the mid-30s.  I had to purchase 2 space heaters to barely keep my house warm until the company I was working with as kind enough to slide me in early in the week of what was usually a weeks wait.  I did not have time to get additional quotes and shop around, nor was I going to pay additional costs to get a repair man out on the weekend, which I had to pay to even get the first guy out.Once the repairman took off the cover, long term water damage was clearly visible on the control board, corrosion on the igniter, and a dead bird that I had to pick out with my own hands in the vent.  All of these were clear to see.  I am no expert, but I could see that damage.  Yes, the furnace was working at the time of inspection, but I was paying JP Anderson to find these types of things wrong before they go wrong.  If they didn't find these, what was I paying for, to see that there was a furnace running at that point in time, I could see that, I didn't need to pay hundreds of dollars for that.  I was paying them to make sure I was making a good purchase for my money and they failed me as a customer.Just because some HVAC companies may try to overprice does not mean that JP Anderson does not need to do quality work to begin with.I was in the house during the inspection, but did not follow the inspector around, but was rather taking measurements of the house, so I did not see what the inspector did.  I did leave a positive review for the inspector in terms of their timelines and friendliness on that day.  Since then, I have learned about the quality of their work (also found that the garage door was almost falling off its tracks) and now if I could, I would change that review.
