Shop installed camshaft bearing incorrectly. Resulted in damage to valve train. Refused to fully compensate me for damage that was caused. On 1/25/2013 I took my engine block to JB Cook for machine work. This included replacing the camshaft bearings. Approximately 500 miles after re-nstalling the engine, I noticed that the drive train was not receiving propper oil lubrication, and damage had ocurred to 3 valves, all rockers, and the rocker shaft. After removing and disassembling the engine I found that the rear camshaft bearing had been installed incorrectly. This bearing shell has holes that must align with oil galleries in the engine block in order for oil to flow to the valve train. The bearing was installed backwards, which blocked one of the oil galleries, preventing oil flow to the valve train. On 1/24/2014 I took the engine block back to the shop to have them replace the bearing. I have photographs of the old and new bearing installation. The shop admitted that the bearing was incorrectly installed and replaced it at no charge and compensated me $100 for "gasket replacement". I then sent the shop a registered letter containing detailed photos of the bearing installation and the damage, and requested compensation for the "cost of parts only" (not labor, not my aggravation, not anything except my very reasonable cost for parts) for 3 valves, 8 rocker arms, and the rocker shaft. The total I requested was $217, and I have requested that they pay me the balance of $117 (since they already paid me $100). A week after I sent the letter I called the shop to ask if they would agree to pay me. The owner, Mr. [redacted], told me he received the letter and would look at it later and call me back.A week later I called back. Mr [redacted] told me they had been too busy to look at the letter. After another week (today) I called again. Mr[redacted] still claims they were too busy to review my letter, but still claims my damage was not caused by their mistake. He said they would take no further action regarding my request. Although the shop maintains that my damage claim was not caused by lack of lubrication from the incorrectly installed bearing, they did say that they would give me free service for my next machine shop need. Unfortunately I have no future need of their services.I simply request compensation for the balance of my costs, $117.Desired SettlementMy cost for replacement parts was $217. The shop paid me $100. I am requesting they pay me the balance of $117.
