J.B. Custom Contracting Reviews (%countItem)

1. Painting kitchen walls, ceiling, doors,and window/trim:
Ceiling is great, walls are fine. Wood doors/windows/trim are not. Paint is still blistering off the wood. Joel touched some of it up, but only latex paint was used directly over stained wood.No prep? primer? sanding? Door knobs, hinges and window panes were left with excess paint on them. Windows and doors were stuck together and pantry door no longer closes easily. Window caulk was painted over by Joel to hide wood stain beneath. Nonpaintable caulk was there, so paint beaded up. Never fixed. Back door had curtain hardware on it, didn't need to be painted, but rods were never removed anyway and were painted over.
2. Removal of countertop, 4 appliances put in place or hooked up,removal of cabinets, level the floor, install new floor, patch any holes in walls
or ceiling, install cabinets, reroute plumbing/sink as needed:
Removal of countertop, cabinets went well, Most holes were patched, Sink was made usable while awaiting new countertop. Flooring went well. A few concerns were addressed to satisfaction. Surprised that a metal threshold was left under the new one instead of being removed. Other threshold no longer allows me to open my basement door all the way to the wall, difficult when carrying things out the back door. Cabinet install was ok, considering many issues with manufacturing flaws. One wall cabinet was installed upside down. I was willing to leave it, if door was rehinged and holes plugged. Holes were not plugged. Special thanks to Joel when cabinets arrived 1 week early and he took the time to help me move the last of them inside the house before rain. That was appreciated.
3. Fabricated gussets/ installed crown moulding, installing handles and knobs on cabinets:
Joel did a great job on the gussets and crown moulding. Of the door knobs and handles installed, one cabinet door now has an extra hole in the opposite corner. I was not told it had been drilled accidentally. I had to discover it myself.
4. Installing kickplate, removing backsplash, installing, grouting, caulking new backsplash, adding trim and sealing tiles:
Kickplates are short at the top. Why? Backsplash that had been removed left holes in the wall. These were not repaired before new backsplash was started. Tiles stuck out past the front of the counter in places. Trim placed at the edges was pulling tiles up from the wall. When mentioned, an attempt was made to correct this, but it happened again when more trim was added past the edge of the counter. Grouting that was done left tiles sunken or raised in places, with some so pushed against others there was no room left for grout in between. Some groups of tiles were pushing up into others. Grout was inconsistent in filling of grooves. Other sections looked good, tiles placed fairly well, not grouted yet, cut tiles still missing from corners, some chipped. What happened? Joel said he would be back to finish, but only came back to pick up his remaining tools. Had he come when he was expected, he would have seen many tiles had fallen off the wall and more ready to follow. Who leaves tiles attached to a sticky backing with no grout and figures they will stay there indefinitely? When asked when he would be back (so we could discuss where we go from there) and then asking for a completion date in writing (as verbal ones had come and gone),he blasted me.According to his text messages, some not very profession to say the least, Joel "let" me out of the contract... due to "my impatience". Now it will take a lot to right the wrongs and finish this kitchen.

Customer breached the contract in late 2018, after allowing other individuals to alter the jobsite.
As per contract wording, I voided the agreement. Instead of requiring full payment from her, out of kindness, I allowed her out of the contract...but knowing that I would not do any further work for her.
This review is apparently a disgruntled attempt to besmirch my business name and reputation, through lies and exaggerations.
The quality workmanship and integrity of J.B.Custom Contracting has spoken for itself for decades, and it's always a "plus" that I take photos of all of my work during it's progress.
We stand by our decisions.

Contract breach? News to me. Joel proceeded into further contracts with me in 2019. I stand by my original review.

Joel did a great job painting our master bedroom walls & ceiling. Joel was prompt & gave us a great price for the work. Thank you Joel.
