JBP Contractors Reviews (%countItem)

JBP Contractors (Painting) is wholly owned by Josh Baker. I purchased a home in Rossville GA and contracted with Mr. Baker to Paint the main floor of my home and do some repairs required by the appraiser. At the outset Mr. Baker was very friendly and engaging, demonstrating an in depth knowledge of painting and construction. This became an illustration of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. If you asked for clarification of the work or quality he became verbally abusive and defensive. At one point my wife had concerns for my physical safety. These are a few of the details. The only time he was on time for an appointment was to collect payment. He could not recognize an unpainted spot his crew missed and argued that it was complete until the painters began correcting the omission and the results were undeniable. His painters absolutely destroyed the vertical blinds making most of them unusable. He was so verbally abusive that I thought it best for his crew to not return a third time to repair them. Mr. Baker promised 4 painters to complete the job in 3 days. For half a day there were 3 then one. The last 4 days there were only 2. Mr. Baker went to Vegas during the project and promised to order the paint as soon as we selected a color. It took 2 phone calls and 4 texts over 4 hours to get the necessary paint. Then all the painters left except one. One text was answered with an angry phone call, upbraiding me for interfering with his retreat. In short, if time is not a factor, you are going to replace your blinds anyway and can address Mr. Baker with kid gloves to avoid a verbal iron fist. Give JBP a call. My grade would be an F.

JBP Contractors Response • Nov 13, 2019

This is a very unfortunate post and very false on so many points. First let me respond to the manner of the project. The only scheduled meeting that I was tardy for was the initial meeting which I notified the client of, through text saying I was 10 minutes behind due to traffic. During this visit we looked at all the work Mr. wanted us to do. While walking through the house a making a scope of work detail, we went over all the small items that needed to be done. During this time, he told me that the blinds were going in the trash and that he would buy new ones and have us install them for him in the dining room and kitchen.
During the project, Mr. was made aware that I was leaving town on vacation. I elected to give him the option of waiting until I got back (In case he was more comfortable with me being personally available) or having the work done with my very capable crew and foreman. He stated to me that he was in a hurry to get out of the rental they had and into the house so they could avoid paying any more rent.
It is stated above that I told Mr. that I would have 4 painters at his job, but that was never stated or promised. However, I did promise that we would have his project completed in 3-4 days.
My first morning of vacation, Mr. called me complaining about the amount of guys that were on site doing all the prep. I told him that more than 2 men to do all the prep and sheet rock work was overkill.
At this point we still did not have a color selected by the owners. We started the project on October 23rd. Mrs. slowed everything down by not choosing a color until the afternoon of the 24th. My guys then worked all day Friday and Saturday to complete the job.
I returned from vacation on the 29th of October and sent Mr. a text message asking how everything looked and to schedule a walk through with my crew to take care of any outstanding items that may have been over looked. This is a standard process we implement. Mr *** asked me about a spot that he was certain didn't get painted, but it was hard to see. I asked one of my guys to apply some touch up paint to the area, which they did, and then you could tell it was overlooked. This is the purpose of the walk through. I never one time argued over it, or made any kind of deal about it. I just asked my guys to take care of it. Which they did.
Mr. then asked me about the blinds and why they were mishandled. I told him that we discussed them getting thrown away, which he denied saying, so I had the guys hang them back up. Mr *** then accused my guys of damaging the blinds and they were not working properly. I offered to have them either repaired or replaced, at which he stated he would take care of it.
It was about this time during the walk through that I noticed his tone change. He started blaming me for things like the blinds, being late to the first meeting. He accused my crew of only putting one coat on the walls, which was absurd.
This project was completed in the promised time frame, and done so with nothing but professional conduct on our end. It was during the time that payment was required that Mr. became a different person.
We were scheduled to meet Thursday the 31st at 1 pm. He no showed and and responded later that night by text. The next day he became dismissive and made me feel like I was begging for money earned. That's when I stated we could handle this like adults or he could continue to be a child and I would place a lien on the house and proceed legally. He then met me at 10:30 that morning with a check and an earful of negative slander.
Unfortunately, not all transactions go smoothly, but in my professional opinion, we did everything as well as we could regarding this job. I just feel like we were cornered into a situation where someone conjured up ridiculous statements. Not sure!
We have a client list that is very extensive, and have our company name on many projects in the Greater Chattanooga Area! We pride ourselves on being Professional under all circumstances! Very disappointed in this whole review, as its untrue on all levels.
