Review: On May 4, 2013 I ordered a semi-formal dress from Jingles in a size 4 for $309. The dress that was in stock was several sizes too large. I paid an extra fee so that the dress would arrive by August 1. On June 24, I was informed that the dress was available. When I tried on the dress on June 25, it was quite large, certainly not a size 4. It seemed as big as the dress I had originally tried on. The clerk recommended a very good seamstress. Over the phone the seamstress estimated the cost of alterations to be $80-100. I called the store and talked with a clerk,[redacted]. I asked if I could return the dress but was told "no." I stated that there was nothing on the receipts indicating that the dress was not returnable, no clearly visible sign in the store, and no clerk had told me so. [redacted] asked if I had been measured which I had not. Later [redacted] called to tell me that it was not a style of dress which was custom-made. It was made according to the hip size, but my hips weren't measured. I stated that if the store was not going to let me return the dress, it should pay for the alterations. I got a "no." A seamstsress I know looked at the dress on me. She stated clearly that this could not be a size 4 dress. It would not be possible to take it in in the center of the dress where it was grossly too big. She could alter it, but the straps would be on the end of the shoulder blades which may not look good. She is a master tailor, has years of experience, and has plenty of work. She was incensed enough to call the store on her own initiative and tell them the dress was not a size 4. She told the [redacted] that if the factory had sewn in the wrong size, they ought to make good on the dress. The seamstress told me she had seen a case in which the size tag had been altered in a dress. Though I was debating on ordering the dress in teal, the clerk kept telling me how good I looked in navy, the color of the dress in the store. I do wonder if the tag was switched.Desired Settlement: I am complaining because I was sold a dress that was sized wrong, either because it was made wrong, it was mislabeled, or the tag was altered. I think I should be allowed to return it. It is understood that wedding and bridesmaids dresses can't be returned, but this was sem-formal. I was not informed that the sale was final. It seems that these types of stores have a sort of racket going. You have to order the dress, it doesn't fit right, and the seamstress gets work.
