JDL Contracting

I am responding on behalf of Mr. [redacted], President of JDL Contracting Sunrooms, Inc„ to the Consumer Complaint filed by [redacted]. JDL. Contracting takes great care to maintain good customer relations, and makes every effort to resolve any issues directly with the customer, quickly and...

effectively in every instance. In this case however, Ms. [redacted] would not allow JDL back to her property to remedy her complaint. Instead, she unilaterally stopped payment on her final check, even though she had approved the job. The following is a brief sum[redacted] from [redacted] of JDL. [redacted] was contacted by a relative (likely the son) of Ms. [redacted], to replace all of the plexiglass panels on her existing porch roof in Fairmont, WV with Lexan panels. After traveling to Fairmont and personally meeting with Ms. [redacted], they agreed and signed on a contract amount of $11,556.39 for labor and materials; see attached Contract. Ms. [redacted] initially paid $3000 down, and JDL began by ordering the materials. On the first day of the job, she paid the second payment by check in the amount of $5,778,19. JDL completed the agreed upon job in two days, and Ms. [redacted] paid the final balance of $2,778.20 by check. She also expressed her pleasure with the work, but did ask to have trim boards placed between two sections of adjoining Lexan panels. JDL agreed to do this, even though it was not part of the agreed upon contract, and furthermore the prior Plexiglass panels did not contain any such trim boards between the panels. Due to JDL's work schedule, [redacted] informed Ms. [redacted] he would be able to return in two weeks, and she was satisfied with that arrangement. The next day, she called him and asked if he could come sooner, and he was able to rearrange his schedule and told her he could come that next Friday. She did not agree, and would not allow him to return. Apparently, the same day she stopped payment on her final check, which was for $2,778.20, even before calling and discussing any issues with JDL. JDL warrants its workmanship for one year from completion, but was prohibited by Ms. [redacted] from returning and attempting to remedy any complaints she may have. JDL was also deprived of $2,778.20 final payment. JDL, at this time, will agree not to seek payment of the $2,778.20, if Ms. [redacted] is satisfied and that would end her complaint.
