Jeff Davis Painting Reviews (%countItem)

A large window was broken. After payment in full, paint was found to need repaired. After two months, the company has fixed neither issue.
Jeff Davis Painting, ran by ***, contracted the exterior painting of my home.
Contract was signed on Jul 7, 2018.
Worked started on or around Sep 6, 2018
Partial payment for work was made on Sep 14, 2018
Full payment was made on Sep 20, 2018

On Sept 20, 2018 a worker for Jeff Davis Painting broke a large window on my house. The window was removed for painting purposes, and broken on reinstall. The workers were in a hurry because *** wanted them on another job. My project took longer than expected. *** took the window with him, and I was told it would be repaired and reinstalled within 2 weeks. It has now been 7 weeks, Mr *** still has my window, and I keep getting excuses. Because this is a vintage window, and its size, it will be hard to simply replace, and must be repaired. At this point, I would like the window to be returned, and repaired on site. I have had a couple of identical windows repaired on site in the past.

Also, after payment was made in full in good faith, I became aware that some of my wooden window screens did not fit my windows properly any longer. The thickness of the paint has interfered with the clearance of the frames. The painting contract was also to remove the screens paint the house and frames and replace the screens. Also because of the hurried completion of the job, some frames were hammered into place. The forcing of the screens on the new paint caused the new paint to slough off. I now have screens that do not fit, window sills that are unpainted, and hammer marks on my wooden screens.

Desired Outcome

I would like my window returned and repaired on site at my house. I have had two identical windows repaired in the past at my home. Because this is a vintage home and vintage windows, simply replacing the window with an off-the-shelf new model may not be possible and it needs to be repaired. Also, i need the window painting repaired where they peeled it off. I need the wooden window screens to fit the windows as they were before the project began. This will probably entail stripping the paint from the windows and repainting.

Jeff Davis Painting Response • Nov 11, 2018

In response to the comment regarding "hurrying" of the employees, we always try to encourage efficient and productive work methods but we never practice cutting corners or sacrifice the quality of our work in order to expedite production time. The reason the project took longer than expected was due to additional work, unforeseen at the time of estimate, being performed with no additional cost to the homeowner and extended the initial time frame. Customer was informed that the removable wooden window screens might not fit properly into frame if two coats of paint was applied due to the multiple layers of existing paint and the already snug fit that they had. The customer, however,, insisted that since the contract said two coats that we apply to coats. The paint that was used was also a thicker, higher quality product. Therefore, when windows were painted and reinstalled they were a "tighter" fit into the seal.

The customer was allowed ample time to review the job after completion and even requested to take an extra day to inspect the work before we came down to walk the job and receive payment. The day that we came to walk the job with the customer, he was very satisfied with the work and his only two complaints were that the screens didn't fit, and that one of the storm windows needed to be replaced due to a crack it received during installation. I addressed the issue with the fitting of the screens and took the glass to be replaced.
The glass was taken to a shop and they were not able to repair it due to its large size but we were allowed to leave the glass there until we found someone that could fix it. It turned out everyone I reached out to was not able to replace it so I picked the glass up and carried it to multiple glass shops around the Huntsville area with hopes of getting it repaired but due to a small bend in the very thin aluminum frame no one would replace the glass in that frame. We let the homeowner know about the situation and offered to buy a new frame and have it replaced that day or we would search for another aluminum frame that matched the side that was bent and he just requested that we return the frame. Unfortunately it wasn't an easy fix and the whole process took longer than we and the customer would have liked but it wasn't due to a lack of caring or neglect. We do understand the customer's frustration but we believe this case could have been handled to the customers satisfaction, excluding the timeframe.
Our goal is to make sure our customers are 100% satisfied with our work and service and we are never pleased with unsettled issues.

These guys do amazing work. I've had them paint several property's and they always provide great quality and great prices. I would highly recommend them!
