Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 8, 2015/08/19) */ When [redacted] brought his boat to my business, I was hesitant to work on the boat due to the ageI had discussed with him the only way I would work on the boat is that he understands that there are no returns or warrantyAnd that the parts and labor could exceed the value of the boat [redacted] was ok with that and said he understood A used control box was installed at a cost of $plus $labor [redacted] bought a depth finder, brought it to me and I installed it at a cost of $for Labor The motor was started several timesIt started and ran each timeI called [redacted] and told him it was done [redacted] came to pick up the boat we both went to start it one last time and it didn't startUpon checking it, there was no sparkWe priced out a stater through my parts book at #He looked one up on Ebay and found it for around $with the ability to return in daysI told him he could order it himself to save some moneyAfter a couple of weeks [redacted] called and told me to order the staterAs he couldn't get one comingI had found a used on and tried it with no successAt this time we also found that the rectifier had bare wires showingTo replace the rectifier as well would be an additional #At this point I had told [redacted] and made it very clear that the parts must be paid for before I ordered as they are not returnable from my supplier [redacted] came out and put #down to get the parts comingThe parts were installed and the motor started several timesOn Friday [redacted] came out to pick it up and the motor wouldn't startI was out of town at that time and [redacted] spoke with *** [redacted] told [redacted] to call me on MondayWhen [redacted] calls me on Monday I had dropped the phone and it was disconnectedI never hung up on himHe did call back and I tried to explain to him that the parts are non-returnableIf he had ordered them from Ebay he would have been able to return them as that Ebay customer had a day return policyI cannot return parts as the supplier considers them a special order because of the age of the motor and the lack the replacements being made At this point we have invested a lot of hours into this boat and the labor bill would far exceed the value of the boatI suggest he come get the boat as we would have to be done working on itWhen [redacted] came to get the boat it was in my shopI did ask him if he wanted the used control box that we had installedBecause it was not paid forIf he did not want the control box I would remove itHe insisted that he already paid for itI explained to him that the $he had put down was for the parts he had me order, not for the work and parts that had already been doneWhen I took the boat out of the shop I did not realize the motor was downAs soon as I realized it I stoppedAs far as the lights and steering, I'm not sure what is going on thereI did offer to take a look at them, assuming the trailer lights may have gotten caught during transporting the boat aroundThey were never ever tampered with by myself or ***The boats do sit outside in the business parking lot areaWhich is not a fenced in areaThe missing CDI box cover was still on the work benchBut during the heated discussion it was simply forgotten to be put back onSame with the fly wheel, it was loose because we were still working on putting it back together at the time he came to pick it upWork in progress I never asked [redacted] for any more money because he felt he didn't owe anything and I was cutting my losses There was no sabotage as [redacted] claims [redacted] has all the new parts and the used control boxJust in parts alone is over #$to be exact with taxI donated all the labor for ***I was more than fair This all boils down to an old boat and motorBoats like these can easily become a money pitI do not like to work on boats and motors of this age due to this reason and the inability to get remanufactured parts for themI was very upfront and honest with [redacted] from the beginningThe non-returnable parts and my hesitation to work on motors and boats of that age for this very reason We spoke to [redacted] from the Humane Society today and [redacted] confirmed that [redacted] has also accused them of sabotaging & misleading him about the boat being in working orderAfter [redacted] clearly informed him the boat was as is [redacted] stated that he has threaten to ruin their reputation of selling boats even though they are in the Dog and cat business(***'s words)That he was short, snappy and rude to her [redacted] has given us permission to give her contact info to the Revdex.com if the Revdex.com feels the need to contact herShe would be happy to talk to the Revdex.com about *** ***, Central Humane Society, [redacted] I feel [redacted] damaged the boat himself and is trying to get either myself or the Humane Society to pay him for it or have it fixed on our dimeAs we gave already donated $in labor alone Initial The boat is getting worked on at the [redacted] in madden NDThere is issues with the boat to discuss as soon as I have the full report I will send it to you Final Business Response / [redacted] (4000, 13, 2015/09/01) */ On August 27th, [redacted] owner & mechanic of the [redacted] in Mandan, ND and he is personally working on ***'s boatHe informed us that he installed a used CDI boxEven though we had all ready installed one ourselvesMotor started and ran fineHe stated to me that he told [redacted] to take and try it to make sure that fixed the problem [redacted] then informed us that Two days later [redacted] returned with the same issue he had been having with all along [redacted] stated he informed [redacted] the motor was not worth sticking money into and he should look at getting a different motorWhich was exactly what we suggested when [redacted] had his boat at our business [redacted] stated to us that he informed [redacted] he would not work on the motor anymore because of the age of the motor [redacted] has given us permission to have you contact him at 701-663-to verify and answer any questions you may haveAt this point we are not sure what [redacted] is looking forAs stated earlier the parts that we installed cost more than what [redacted] paid us without labor charges After reviewing the letter from [redacted] to the Humane society our professional opinion is that a lot of money has been stuck into this motor without any resolution to the problemTwo owners, ***, [redacted] and myself have either paid money or donated parts and time to this motorAnd it still has the same problemFrom what we can see this motor has had several people try to fix it to no unveilI still feel we went above and beyond to help ***I don't know what more we can do as the motor is quite old and when dealing with motors of this age they can become a money pitConstantly chasing one problem after another ending up sticking more money into it then if you were to buy a newer motorAnd if you do get it running properly now you have an expensive old motor [redacted] was told this by myself and [redacted] from [redacted] I feel he is looking to get something for nothing and ruin a business in he process
