Jericho Valley Inn

Booked room for month on basis of relocation. Cancelled when move didn't happen. Charged full month of stay without permission. Won't return moneyI was moving to Williamstown for business. Booked cottage for a month, paid a $250 deposit. Was told $750 remainder was due by check in. The contract didn't work out with job last minute and move did not occur. I emailed cancellation within 48 hours of stay. Two days later, Jericho Valley Inn charged $750 to my debit card totally unauthorized. When I called they said that was policy. I never signed nor agreed to anything, so do not see where they have the right to completely unauthorized take money from me as they please. When called they told me that was business, there is a 30 day cancellation policy. I had barely even made the reservation 30 days before. The stay was supposed to be paid for by my employer that is no more. I never moved to Massachusetts, in turn am now unemployed and moved back home to Pennsylvania. They will not release the funds, and I feel this is beyond bad business, it should also be unlawful. Never once EVER was I told I was going to be charged the amount in full or I NEVER would have stayed three. That is hiding information. Even on website it says 30 day cancellation policy, but never says they are charging 100% to you no matter what. THey were awful to try to deal with and hung up on ,my wife. There are several other people they have done this to as well, and I am not going to stay quiet while they steal from me.Desired SettlementI paid a total of $1000 to Jericho Valley Inn.$250 was voluntary deposit$750 was stolen from me against my willI would like the entire $1000 refunded, but will settle with the $750 being returned to me immediately.Business Response Ms.[redacted] made an initial reservation for a 2br cottage arriving on [redacted] received a confirmation which stated"a 30 canxl policy"and"a reservation canxld within the canxl period(30days)cannot be canxld without the loss of your deposit.During this stay she reserved this cottage for a later "long term stay" She was advised that to hold the reservation we required a deposit of the 1st month at the time the reservation is made.She made an initial deposit of $250 and indicated the balance would be paid within two weeks.Not receiving the balance we called and indicated we would have to canxl the reservation without the balance being paid.Subsequently we received a phone call providing us with a "new" credit card to pay the balance.We never received an email canxl from her and canxl two days prior to arrival violates our written canxl policy present in the two confirmations we sent her.Our policy of requiring the 1st month's rent at the time the reservation is made is standard rental policy.The guest is advised of that as Ms.[redacted] indicates she was told.
