The proper procedure was performed which was to pull vacuum on the system. If it holds a vacuum for five minutes that means system has integrity. It means there isn't a huge leak and allows us to charge system which we did. We fully evacuated, vacuumed, and recharged with proper amount of refrigerant, oil and dye. Later on, if a leak develops, the dye allows us to find.
Once the system is up and cooling pressure builds up to 300 pounds. Thus, on any weak lines or components a leak will become apparent.
When customer came back approximately three weeks later, there was a line with large hole which was obvious. This line was not leaking on first visit or it wouldn't have held a vacuum.
We try to take a common sense approach to keep costs down. We offer a Free follow-up to determine where possible leaks are and repair as reasonable as possible for customer.
