Review: On 10/16/14, I had an appointment with Jay H[redacted] of JES Construction, Inc. to find out where the water was seeping into my basement floor. This was in one particular spot.

Jay came out and looked at the basement and immediately went into his sales pitch and told me the water was entering from the floor. When I asked him and showed him the gutter and a crack by the window seal in my back yard, he immediately said neither was the issue. Prior to sitting down at my dining room table, he said let him check one other thing. He went outside again and less than 5 minutes later, he came in and stood directly above the area where the leak was in the basement and said he could see the crack in the concrete where he was standing. I asked him how he could see being there are steps and a lattice blocking the area. He said he pulled out his flashlight. He sat and showed my husband and I JES' video presentation and wrote a $5,400+ estimate for their [redacted] system, [redacted] port, [redacted] Wall System and WellDuct Window Well Drainage and went on to say he will apply a $500 coupon if I signed the contract by Friday. I was interested in having the problem fixed before Thanksgiving and he said I would have to make the deposit (20%) to get on the schedule. He also stated that they do not tear down the drywall, that I would have to have someone do that. The person would have to remove the studs and metal plate in order to install their [redacted] system. I asked why couldn't they do that since they are a construction company. He said they charge $500 and do not put the drywall back up once completed. On 10/21/14, I signed the contract and gave Jay my deposit of $885.00. On 10/29/14, I sent an email to Jay and Francisco A[redacted] (Project Manager) asking for my deposit back in order to assist my mother with paying for my sister's funeral (passed away from cancer). I also stated that I would reschedule for later in November. Prior to signing the contract, Jay ALWAYS responded to my emails and calls promptly when I had questions or concerns. After sending that email, I haven't heard from him. Francisco replied to my email on 10/30/14, stating he was sorry for my loss and rescheduled my appointment for 11/25/14 with no mention of my refund. I responded to Francisco's stating that I was interested in rescheduling at the moment and reiterated my need of the deposit for my sister's funeral. No response from either Jay or Francisco. On 10/31/14, I forwarded Francisco's email to the Owner and Vice President, again stating my need for my deposit. On the same day, my husband began the process of removing the drywall. We then saw the crack in the concrete which led directly to the window seal crack outside. After my husband poured water in the crack, it was discovered, that's where the water was coming from.

JES do have a 3 day cancellation policy; however, I was told when I called on 10/29/14 to speak with Francisco (another guy answered) and I told him about my sister. He said they normally waive the 3 day policy if I put in writing my reason for wanting a refund. He stated that what I was telling is more than enough reason for them to give me a refund.

Jay H[redacted] lied regarding the "crack" in the concrete that he claimed to have seen. JES Construction, Inc. uses unethical sales practices to get people to purchase their products which are more than likely not needed in 80% of homes they visit. My problem was as simple as sealing the crack and outside and putting a window well cover over the window. We also sealed the crack in the concrete since the drywall was down and poured water in the area. No water came into the basement. For sealing a crack in the concrete from the inside, JES is charging $985.00 with a 1 year guarantee. Nothing is done outside. My final contract was for $4,425.00Desired Settlement: I want my deposit of $885.00 back for their inconsideration of the death of my sister and their misrepresentation of the problem.
