I mailed the proposal to Skylight Specialists with my signature and 35% down ($1756.30) on 9/7/
They worked a couple days but never finished
I photographed the skylight on 10/5/a few days after they left
I sent the following to *** *** on 10/6/16:

I do apologize for the delay. I wasn’t aware that our drywall finisher had not scheduled the work. I will work on my end to resolve the issue
A few days later I sent a second email
I waited about four weeks, then hired *** *** to finish the job
I paid *** on 11/4/
On 11/7/I received the following from Skylight Specialists:
Amount Due: $2,
Dear *** ***: ??Attached is your most current invoice as of today's datePlease remit payment at your earlie
Very pleasant company to work withRe flashed existing skylights and replaced two hard to fit older skylights and rebuilt opening to accommodate space So far so good
Charged for work not doneLast fall I agreed to pay $for my skylight to be reflashed because it seemed to be leakingThey said they would call be back to schedule the visitThey never did despite several additional callsFinally, last month, I got a call saying that someone would be at my townhouse to look at the roof in a few hoursHe came, he saw the roof, he said that the agreed-upon work could not be done since they no longer manufacture (or at least no longer carry) that model of skylightHe reexamined the roof and said that the unit appeared to be sealed but we agreed that he would recaulk it and put in a few more screwsThe office would contact me with a revised billA few days later I got a bill for $- the original quote for work that was not done, and which they should have known (since they installed the skylight) could not be doneI wrote them and asked about the billI never heard backI just got an "overdue" noticeI called themThis time I actually did manage to talk to someoneHe was oh-so-generous after my wait and not getting the service that we had agreed to that would knock the price down to $As the French say, screw thatThe guy did little more than climb a ladder so I had offered to pay for the visit - although even that is far too generous after that long delay with no word from them and KNOWING (OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN) THAT THEY COULDN'T PERFORM THE AGREED UPON WORKI will honor my end of the deal - I had agreed to pay $270, and I will freely tell others about my experiences with the companyIncluding the fact that they didn't respond ALL WINTER despite knowing that there seemed to be a significant gap in the roof and that they held me to a contract that they knew, or should have known, that they could not honor themselvesTo be honest I debated fighting this in small claims court ("I paid the agreed-upon amount and I demand that you perform the work you agreed to - reflash the skylight and I don't care how much trouble you have to go through to do it since that's what we agreed to") or even filing a petty criminal complaint for fraud since, have I mentioned this yet? - they knew which skylight they had installed so they would have known, or should have known, whether they could perform the work they agreed to do for the price we agreed uponBut life is short and yelp reviews are long lived and, to be honest, they could refund this entire amount and I'm not going to change this review, the yelp review, the next door review, etc., because the bottom line is that they demonstrated a shocking indifference to the consequences of their inaction
I'll make this short and sweet or I'll be here all daySkylight Specialists did a fantastic job on the ordering and installation of my 2, non-custom, standard size skylights They were installed with no issues on the regularly scheduled dateOn the custom size skylight, it was measured/ordered the wrong size I had to wait another weeks for a re-order They installed it ok They only busted a couple of roof tiles, didn't even have to install a new curb because they were able to use the existing one, and still, it was like pulling teeth to get somewhat of a discount They did however finish the job and gave me a discountWould I ever use Skylight Specialists again - NO
Would I ever recommend Skylight Specialists to friends and family – NO
What's funny is that they were not even my low bid contractor, but I went with them because of all their positive reviewsSo you decide for yourself if you want to use them or not
What a fabulous group of skilled people! Skylight Specialists added light to our home with two lovely skylights It feels like paradise in our family room But I must tell you, if you are wondering about who you should choose to do this work, you cannot go wrong with this company that specializes in skylights I researched for a long time, and hoped I chose the right company to add skylights to our home They surpassed my wildest expectations First I called the company and a smiling voice was on the other end of the phone I look for that in a company Lindsey answered the phone and was so personable She set up a visit for me to meet with Stan *** to come out to work up an estimate He answered all our questions and was so nice Next I set up the scheduled time for the installI spoke with Joe *** and once again, a smile on the other end of the phone! Joe was awesome and set me up for the install with Lock Davis and he would be there also They both came on time Lock walked in, smiled and introduced himself and Joe, he said they wanted to place the skylights wherever we would like them, and that they wanted us to be happy What? Yes he truly wanted us to be happy! Joe was just wonderful too, smiling and we felt we knew those men in a short amount of time Skilled, hard working and kind men they are We decided to have the skylights focused over our couch No lamps needed in the day at all to read, it's just grand! The light wafted over the entire roomNo words to express how happy we are Every step of the way Lock and Joe answered our questions And they both were so kind to also help us in our thoughts on where we wanted the skylights placed At this point I was truly in shock at all the incredible customer service, as my husband was too They were so careful to not make a mess on our flooring Tidy and neat they are! They installed two gorgeous skylights in our home, cleaned up afterward and again asked if there was anything more they could do for us They were just incredible! Next Clayton Hunt arrived to do the texturing on the drywall to match our ceiling Goodness, another smiling and kind man! He finished the job and was just so nice I have never witnessed in my years this kind of service So I guess this review was lengthy, but the people at Skylights specialists are tops and deserved this review After the job was done I also received a beautiful letter from Josh Hannon Thanking me Well this is one fabulous company, thank you all at Skylight Specialists, you turned our home into a peaceful, light and glorious haven! I thank the owner Rob *** for hiring such a special group of people Our very best wishes to you all!

The Skylight staff answered my phone call requesting service without having to leave a message and wait for a return callThey showed up on time for both the estimate and the installationThey completed the project quicker than projected and the bill was the same as the estimate, no additional surprise charges
We now have a perfect skylight! All of the workers were very skilled and took pride in their work In addition they were respectful of our home and did a great job of cleaning up afterwards We are tempted to get another skylight
