Hello,
We regret to hear about Mr. [redacted]’s claims.  He is a regular customer and has been for years.
We appreciate his business and trust.  He has brought multiple
vehicles of his many times and has gone away every time satisfied while...

getting
the best value for his money.  He has been bringing his older model
vehicles to us for years.  We have happily helped and assisted Mr. [redacted] every
time he has brought his vehicles for the best price possible.  Since Mr.
[redacted] is struggling, we try to do our best for him to save his money on his
older model cars.  He likes to stay in the bay and watch every time we
work on his vehicle.  We do not mind this even though it is a safety
issue.  Mr. [redacted] has had a great relationship with us.

However in this instance, Mr. [redacted] recently purchased this [redacted] with 160K plus
miles.  This vehicle was purchased from an outside individual and had significant
amounts of problems and issues which he brought to us to fix.  He
understands we are honest and trustworthy, that is why he is regular customer.
However Mr. [redacted] also seems forget very easily of how much assistance
and help is given to him and how many times we have striven to satisfy his
means even when they were beyond reason and at our own expense.
Mr. [redacted] initially brought in this used vehicle in for checkup, oil change and maintenance
recommendations.  When he brought this vehicle in to the shop, we noticed
the vehicle had significant oil leaks and the distributor was not up to normal
condition.  We changed the engine oil and since the vehicle was
significantly greasy and dirty with old oil it needed to be sprayed and cleaned
with solvents.  This is normal procedure.
This helps assist in finding where the leak is deriving from.  In this process after the
cleansing was complete and oil changed, the car was started.  After 10-15
minutes, we noticed the vehicle smoking and sparking a flame.  We urgently
extinguished the flame.  We notice the area where the flame started was by
the distributor cap and rotor.  This area had a hairline crack in the cap
and is where the engine sparked a flame.  The grease from the old oil, dry
solvent mixture assisted in causing this flame.  This damaged some parts
around the area which we fixed without charges of labor.  We proceeded to
tackle every issue that arose from this matter and only requested Mr. [redacted] to
pay for some parts in this area which were already needed to begin with.
These were normal tune-up related parts.  No labor was charged.

The vehicle stayed with us over several days.  Mind you, there was
no driving issues with this car.  All issues were cosmetic. At this point,
Mr. [redacted] filed a complaint to 311.  The officer claimed we were doing
our job in cleansing the vehicle of old grease and things such as these were to
be expected.  This was standard procedure.  We also pointed out to
the officer that Mr. [redacted] had threatened our mechanic.  After the
complaint was filed and the officer left; next day Mr. [redacted] came back and
apologized to us, the mechanic, and mentioned he did not mean to trouble us.
We put the issues behind us, shook hands and continued to assist Mr.
[redacted] with his left over concerns.  We did this happily since our
relationship with Mr. [redacted] was for years.
However again it turned out Mr. [redacted] was still not satisfied and on an outside mechanics advice; he
asked to have us replace the vehicle ECU.  To satisfy Mr. [redacted], we
purchased and installed another ECU into the car and also had it re-programmed.
All at our expense.  The vehicle was fine.  There were no check
engine lights at this point and Mr. [redacted] used the car for few more days.
When another issue did arise, the check engine light came on for the
Catalytic Converter.  As everyone knows, the distributor cap and wires
have no relations to the catalytic converter.  Mr. [redacted], refused to
understand that this issue was not linked to the parts catching a flame and
decided to file a complaint.  It is our experience that when a vehicle has
this many miles and is so many years old, it is expected for the catalytic
converter to be blocked or carbon over time.
In conclusion, there were days of labor hours involved here and parts beyond the $500 expense claim
that Mr. [redacted] was asked for.  The $500 claim is also a stretch.
The expense was for only his vehicles parts which were not in
satisfactory conditions to begin with.  We relieved Mr. [redacted] for over
$1500-$2000 in losses from our expense to satisfy his every need.  There
is only so much one shop owner can do to satisfy a client’s every need given
the circumstances, budget requirements, and previous vehicle condition.

We regret to hear Mr. [redacted]’s concerns and are disappointed in his ability
to understand the assistance and patience we provided him.  We have no
personal issues with Mr. [redacted] and are always willing to help him as much as
we can.  We strive to do the right thing always for our clients.  That
is why we always provide honest advice on needed and not needed or not
necessary repairs.  Our business thrives on honesty, good ethics and sound
practices.
Sincerely,
Management.
