After applying for a home loan I noticed a error on my credit report. When I called the JH Portfolio about the wrong claim, they informed me that the information they had was for a name similar to mine ( but not the same) and a completely different social security number. I asked how could they connect someone else's debit with my social security number and was told they don't connect debit with social security numbers but it's the Credit Agency that connects the debit with the social security numbers. After I tried to make since of that, I called the Credit Agency and they confirmed that the JH Portfolio was the company that connected my security number with someone else's debit. To me, that seems fraudulent that a company can take a different but similar name and completely different social security number and apply that debit. Please know the JH Portfolio was no help to me in fixing their error.

In order to fully investigate, we need more than just a name. However, as a general response, *** ("JH") does not arbitrarily "connect" social security numbers with consumer's debts. JH is a debt buyer. Accounts are purchased directly from the original creditor. At the time of sale, JH is provided with (among other things) the consumer's name, address, social security number, date of birth, etc. This is a standard practice in the debt buying industry. JH has an obligation to accurately report information to the national credit reporting agencies. If JH is unable to validate a consumer's dispute, or if a mistake in reporting is discovered, JH is required to fix the tradeline or delete it. JH places a strong emphasis on conducting business in a compliant manner.
