Absolutely terrible from start to finish! They delivered our belongings a week later than quoted after sending a truck that was too small (based off their estimate - we simply followed their guide/instructions). We had to pay double what was originally quoted. And they ruined ALL of our furniture. Scratches, dings, and dents on literally everything they touched. We have a huge gash in our treadmill track and the safety key is missing. They failed to deliver the box spring and frame for our Guest bed. It's just GONE. And now they won't return our calls or emails. They told us to take pictures of all the damage - we did. Now they are straight up ignoring us.
They are the WORST. Do NOT use them. Do NOT give them your money.

I am filing this complaint on behalf of my mother. She received a quote for her move over the phone from J&H Transport Customer Rep. *** The quote was based on my mother talking with *** on the phone going room to room giving *** a description of each furniture piece and included a count of the number of boxes to be moved. She had a quote from another company for $2,800.00 and was given a quote of $3,100.90 by *** for 650 cf. (4550 lbs). She was moving from a 2 bedroom apartment. On 4/26 when they loaded her belongings, they waited until the truck was completely loaded to give her the new amount which was $6,159.40. Feeling she had no other option, she paid in full because they would be unloading in Shreveport 2 days before she would arrive here and I was the one meeting them here to unload and she didn't want me to have to pay the balance. When the movers gave my mother the new total she told them it was way over her budget and they proceeded to take her to the back of the truck and explain cubic feet to her. Being a 70 yr old woman that has no idea about cubic feet, all she saw was a 26 ft. moving truck that was half full. In fact, there was so much room left on the truck that she questioned them several times to make sure another load from somewhere else wouldn't be loaded on as well since the agreement was her items would be the only load on the truck. When the movers arrived in Shreveport, I didn't come out to see the load on the truck immediately. I didn't see the load until shortly after they started unloading when I had to go to an ATM to get money for a tip and had to walk by the back of the truck to get to my vehicle (This is important because they claim I never came out of the house after they arrived and never saw the load on the truck. Even though when I went to tell them I had to run to the bank and I'd be right back, I found them sitting in the cab of the truck and I have my ATM receipt with the time stamp.). My mother didn't tell me how much she was charged until after she arrived in Shreveport on 4/30. Had I known what they did to her, I would have taken photos immediately after the door was opened on the truck. I've tried to get this resolved with J&H over the last 11 days and they've made every excuse possible and still can't explain to me how the cubic square feet doubled. They said they had photos of the load, but when we asked for them they admitted they didn't. I would think that if her items had been double what was on the quote the movers had, being experienced movers they would have been able to walk in her apartment and immediately know there was more than on the quote. Even if they didn't realize it just by seeing it, they should have told her once the truck was past the original square cubic feet mark of 650. I've dealt with *** trying to get this resolved and got no where. Mom's son-in-law, *** then talked to *** and *** and got no where. In fact, Johnny's last words to *** was that *** was a liar and that he looked forward to getting a letter from my Mother's attorney. They saw a 70 yr old woman, by herself, and choose to take advantage of her. Had she known before or during the load that she would be charged double the estimate, she would have never agreed to it.

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like the full amount she was charged over the estimate refunded. But she is willing to accept a $2,000 refund.

J&H Transport Services Response • Jun 09, 2020

I'm honestly appalled at this whole situation. The paperwork was signed at pickup after the customer wanted to add additional items. The customer even tipped the movers when the delivery was made. We then got a call several days after the move was complete demanding a $2000 refund or else they were going to file complaints. Tell me how someone who is having a bad experience with moving would then show gratitude by giving them extra money? This complaint is also being filed by someone who wasn't a primary contact and we haven't even gotten a chance to speak with the customer who signed all the paperwork. We even included packing material and labor for the items that weren't packed on the day of the move and did not charge them for it. Several days after the move we received the call from the customers relative and we even offered to refund him $750 to which he responded with a demand for $2,000 or he would write bad reviews and complaints everywhere he could on the internet. In his complaint he states that the truck was only half full and then contradicts himself by stating that he didn't come out to look at it, saying instead he briefly saw it as he walked by to get in his vehicle after the work was already started.

It is company policy to show a customer how much of the truck will fill up based on their estimate, this was done and they were told if you go over this space your additional cost will be calculated at the cost per cubic foot and be given a new estimate before loading. The customer was explained this and even stated twice she wanted to bring the items.

It is also company policy that if the customer chooses to only move the estimated amount we don't load up anything left over. They had the option to use only the space they were estimated or use the extra space required for the additional items.

We went the extra mile for this customer. I tried to resolve it by offering a refund that we didn't have to offer. The job was completed and there were no complaints until this gentleman got involved.

attached is the signed bill of lading by the customer on file with us.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Their response is as inaccurate as every excuse they've given us. The first time we actually spoke to *** by phone he tried to say he went off an estimate given by another company my mother had been in contact with. When we reminded him that he was on the phone with my mother having her go room to room and giving him descriptions of each piece of furniture and the number of boxes, his story changed and he then gave more excuses. My mother is a 70 yr. old single woman in poor health and on a limited income. I am the one making contact and filing the complaints with FMCSA, Revdex.com, and the Florida Attorney General's office because Justin also has my name, ***, on the "Binding Moving Estimate" and had me e-sign my mother's name to the estimate. *** was never threatened with us filing complaints if he didn't refund us $2,000.00. As of yesterday, 6/9/20, I did inform him via email that I had filed complaints to the three places listed above and that I would also be reviewing J&H Transport on Home Advisor which is where my mother found them. I also let him know that I would be sending all the information to all his competitors in Miami as well as all other moving companies in Florida, all the local news stations in Miami, and putting reviews on Facebook, Twitter and Craigslist. I can forward that email if necessary to show no dollar amount was demanded. The packing material and labor that he claims he didn't charge her for is also false. As you can see in the attachment I sent in the original complaint of the "Interstate Bill of Lading Contract" that they had my mother sign after the truck was loaded, clearly has a $55.00 charge for "total material and packing" and a $60.00 charge for "full packing service". We aren't at all disputing that charge, just simply pointing out another falsehood. As I stated in my original complaint, I left to go to the ATM shortly after they arrived and had to hunt them down to let them know I was leaving. I looked in each room for them, went to the back of the truck, and then found them in the cab of the truck. So however "briefly" they want to claim I saw it is meritless. Point being is I saw it shortly after they began unloading and I could plainly see there was no way for it to have been as full as they are claiming. I also never claimed I didn't come out to the truck, that is another one of their false claims from the beginning until we reminded them of my trip to the ATM. As for the tip, once again I had not spoken to my mother for 2 days so I was never told they had charged her double. Had I known they charged her double, I wouldn't have tipped them, BUT I would have taken photos of the load as soon as they arrived. As I also stated in my original complaint, *** claimed they take photos of all their loads, but when we asked for them, he admitted they had none. They also didn't provide an itemized list of items they are claiming were over the original "Articles List" from the "Binding Moving Estimate". In the end, it was a 26' moving van that J&H Transport rented and it was only half full. My mother had already given them a deposit and when she was told after the truck was loaded that the price was twice as much as she was originally told, she felt she had no choice but to pay since her items were on their truck. There is absolutely no way 1,290 cu. ft. was in her 2 bedroom 1,024 sq. ft. apartment. As *** was told when my mother's son-in-law spoke to him, if it were 10% or even 15% higher, we would understand, but DOUBLE? *** and J&H Transport saw an elderly woman and chose to take advantage of her.
