A-1 Towing and Recovery service unlawfully towed my boyfriend's car from the Burger King across from UAB. He parked, walked over to get me and we walked back to Burger King to have lunch. The car was GONE. We went in and asked the manager who he called to tow the car and he said he didn't call anyone then made the comment "That tow company comes in and tows people's cars all the time, I've had people in the bathroom and they come out and their cars gone. They got to stop towing people's cars from here" This came from the Burger King's manager! He gave me the number to the tow company. I called and the man said he towed the car. I told him that he had just parked the car, came and got me and we were going to have lunch. His response was "If you aren't with your car, your car can't be there". I got upset and told him we live an hour away, how can he just take someone's car from the place we were having lunch at and he told me not to raise my voice at him. He said he'd text me where my car was. Within a minute, I got the text that the car was 16 miles away in a lot and that it would cost $160 to get it back if we paid cash or $167 if put on a credit/debit card. We had to have family come and get us, drive to Tarrant to their lot and when we got there, the gaits were closed and no one was there. we had to wait 15-20 minutes before anyone showed up. When someone finally showed up, he was rude and not helpful at all. When we asked who authorized the tow of the vehicle, he said the manager at Burger King did. I called the manager right then and he said absolutely not, he was the manager on duty and he did not call anyone to tow any cars, he never does and they tow them all the time. The manager then gave me the phone # to call their district manager if needed. The tow truck driver said he did not tow our car and would not tell us the name of the driver that did, he basically was tripping all over his words and then said "I'm just the driver" I told him that I understand he's just doing his job, but that we needed to know who authorized the tow on our vehicle since we were right there and the store manager did not call to have it towed. He wouldn't give us any other info. We had to pay the $160 to get the car back to avoid any storage charges. As soon as we pulled out of the lot, it was very apparent that they damaged the alignment. the steering wheel now has to be almost at a 90 degree angle to the left in order for the car to go straight and it's pulling badly to the right. So they unlawfully towed the car, damaged it in the process and would not give us any answers to the questions we asked and we STILL had to pay them $160. This company is awful - just crooks.

A-1 towing towed my elderly father's car from Burger King across from UAB Hospital's emergency room after employees told him it was ok to park there. When my Dad called to check on his car, A-1 towing did not share that their facility was about to close for the evening. We got there 3 minutes after they closed and the gates were locked. The next morning, we called to make sure they were open. The gates were locked when we arrived and we had to wait 10 minutes for them to open. When we called to make sure they were open, they also did not share that they take cash only, or charge you an extra 5% over the $160 towing fee, to cover their credit card fees. My Dad was going to be late for his doctors appointment, so we had to pay the fee.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. I WILL NEVER USE AGAIN.
