While I was driving in PA on the I80, I dodged a very large pothole and broke a leaf spring in my trailer and flattened 2 tires, bending the rims. I had to contact a tow company to tow my trailer to the yard. It was not a very far distance. I told them I would get the parts (in Canada) and return and they could fix my trailer and I would be on my way. They required that I leave my ownership with them. Upon returning back to Canada and ordering the parts, I contacted Schlier's 24-hr tow and was told that the tow bill alone (not including repairs) would be $6500!!!! I was not told that the tow charge would be more than the value of the trailer and I find this akin to highway robbery.

Hello ***,
I would like to answer this complaint and give you full explanation of charges. On the night of 1/23/2019 Schlier’s Towing was called by the Pennsylvania State Police to respond to a trailer with two rear flats at Interstate 80 westbound at MM ***. Schlier’s Towing dispatched a light duty tow truck to survey the scene. Once on scene the driver contacted me, the company supervisor and apprised me of the situation and come up a course of action. The trailer had a busted spring on the passenger side of the trailer which caused the two left side tires to blow , bending the rims and the axle was shifted. Repairing on scene was not an option due to the safety concern and the state police wanting the trailer removed off the interstate. The decision was made to bring our 35 ton *** trailer (which is a flatbed trailer that is hydraulic) and a large rotator. ( a rotator is a large towtruck that performs like a crane to fully lift the trailer onto the trailer) Once on scene the lane was shut down and the rotator was set up and the trailer was rigged up for the lift. The trailer was lifted and placed on our *** trailer , it was secured and transported to our storage facility.
The discussion with *** that night was that the bill would be $ 6500.00 an d that was a discount and I would not charge him storage if we would do the repairs. The bill originally would have been as follows and these rates are posted with the Pennsylvania State Police. Rates are based on 4 hour minimums
Rotator $ 1200 per hour------------------------------------------------$ 4800.00
*** tractor and trailer $ 350.00 per hour---------------------$ 1400.00
Light duty response truck-----$ 100.00 per hour-----------------$ 400.00
Supervisor is $ 200.00 per hour--------------------------------------$ 800.00
2 riggers @ $ 125.00 per hour per man---------------------------$ 1000.00
$ 8400.00
Storage is $ 150.00 per day which rightfully should have been charged because our shop has nothing to due with towing and the vehicle sat for over 2 weeks.
I did go above and beyond for *** this was not a passenger vehicle , This was a trailer that was over 20,000 pounds
As of 2/13/2019 *** came with the funds and the repairs where made to his trailer and he left the yard.
