Jim's Auto Repair Service Reviews (1)

Did't want to honor they warranty or give us a refund and tried to say we did it but they was the ones who tonch the crank on the motor ($1.676.98)On Feb 20th, I took my car to Jim's Auto Repair Service to have repair work done on the engine head. Before I got the work done, I asked the mechanic if I needed a new motor. The mechanic informed me the engine was good enough to put new heads on it, and did not need to be replaced. Also, I got the rear air vents repaired and the airflow mask repaired.A couple of months after the repair work, the rear air vents went out again. Jim's Auto Repair service refused to honor the guarantee to fix any parts if they break again. The airflow mask went out the week of 8/17, and the engine failed on the week of 8/29. When my car was towed to Jim's on the 29th, they informed me that "the bottom of my engine was gone". We were then informed for $2,100 that we could get another engine. The reason that I'm filing this complaint is because we've been informed by other mechanics that if you are putting heads on an engine, you are responsible for the rest of the engine as well, because you shouldn't put heads on a bad engine. We specifically asked if the engine was ok for this repair, because I was willing to purchase a new engine in February. When I went to pick up my car, I was informed the timing belt was broken and that this broke the crank inside the engine. The timing belt, per another mechanic, is not broken because the car can still start up. We've been informed the timing belt being broken would result in a backfire and the car and not starting. We've been unable to get a refund or any guarantee work performed. Yesterday, the mechanics at Jim's Auto Repair Service informed us that "the car worked for 5 months".When we inquired about what caused the crank to break, he replied "I don't know", inspite of just telling us that the timing belt was responsible for breaking the crank earlier. He told us that we'd have year warranty on the engine head work and the airflow and vent work.Desired SettlementI just want my money back plus cost of the crank and lable and me my airflow and back air vents.Business Response In regards to complaint from April Franklin- Complaint 40090497We received the car on 2-18-13 with blow heater hose. The car had been run every hot. It blowed head gaskets so we removed the heads sent them to the machine shop to check for cracks. This does not require working on the lower part of the engine. This car ran fine for 6 months. The head had 6 months warranty. There was no warranty on the lower part of the engine. The engine is still running on the front 3 cylinders because the cam shaft broke. It does not have a timing belt, it has a chain. There is no warranty on the lower part of the engine. Jim's Auto Repair Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)RE: Case #40090497: Jim's Auto Repair ServiceJim's Auto Repair Service did not provide any written version of the warranty, but conveniently it becomes a six month warranty (which would end one month before trouble started). When we originally noticed that the receipt did not have a warranty, we called him back and were informed over the phone we have a 12 month warranty, that his word is good, and guaranteed. We've had another friend who is knowledgeable about engines confirm that the problem that we've been told exists now is not part of the lower engine, but is the part of the engine that makes the heads turn, which reinforces our original complaint that if we had been told to buy a new motor originally, we'd have had no problems, but because of the negligence of Jim's Auto Repair Service, this problem is now worse than it originally was in February and the warranty is being refused. If the warranty did not cover the lower engine problems, and the warranty would have expired anyway, then I really don't know why Jim's Auto Repair Service would have brought the warranty up at all.
