JJB Home Improvements, LLC Reviews (2)

I've attached photos that prove that complaints I have are justified. Beginning with the nail that they drove into the side of the dormer into the interior wall of my bedroomClearly it is on the side of the dormer and no where near the roof, as they claim(They were implying that it was done by the roofing contractor.)There are also photos showing what a sloppy job of painting they did, including not even painting the entry stoop and one showing that they did not even bother to hang my house numbers back up after they had finished the job.And finally the photos of the damage they did to my year old Japanese Lace Leaf Maple treeIt's obvious in the photos how it wilted and died over the period of a couple weeksThe fact is, they did not cover it and it was coated with concrete dust and white paint! The tree is not completely dead, but is now misshapen and half the size it was.Due to the aforementioned, I believe that JJB Home Improvements should return a portion of the money I've paid them, to compensate for damages, repairs and paint touch ups that I have had to pay out of my own pocket. If you recall, the only reason that I paid them in full was because they threatened to put a lien against my house.Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.Respectfully,Linda ***

Below is the response I've posted to our Angie's List account rebutting Linda L. [redacted]'s review of our business:I feel myself and my team did a great job on this project. Not only did we go above and beyond to do things such as painting the entire front of the home, instead of only where we...

performed our masonry repairs as per the contract, but we also worked our schedule around the client's and her other contractors, from a large home improvement store, working in tandem to complete all of their projects. We did, in fact, protect all the plants we worked around which did cause a little wilting on the Japanese Maple, not anything to do with mortar dust which in close to 30 years of masonry work I have never seen any dust from any masonry product "burn" any plant. The Japanese Maple made a full recovery within a few weeks and has no lasting damage. As far as the other plants we did have those covered and couldn't do anything to keep from kneeling on them since the work being performed was directly behind them, at ground level, and to try to work around them would be very dangerous as you would then have to overextend yourself to reach the brick joints with a diamond sharp grinding blade spinning at close to 8,000 RPM, no good. In addition this was brought to the client's attention during the process and the client had no issues with it saying "it's fine, they're perennials, and will grow back next year". As far as the nail I have no idea where that came from since we were just doing the cedar shake siding on the dormer and only used staples, measuring 1 1/4", you would also need a nail longer than 4" to make it from the outside of the dormer to the interior wall. The roofers, who don't work for us, were also working on that dormer and it seems like a nail that size would be closer to a 'spike' which is what they use for attaching jacks and planks to work off of. I'm not saying it was from them but I know it definitely was not from us. We didn't get paint anywhere and were very careful about that, any paint that the client believed is from us was already there before we even stepped foot on the property. I did forget to re hang the house numbers and feel bad about not doing that before we left, I did however rehang the ornamental butterfly above the door. We then billed the client and didn't hear from them for a few weeks so we sent another invoice. The client's emailed response, weeks after we had finished the project, to our 2nd invoice was the FIRST time any issues were ever brought to our attention. I emailed her back the same day saying we would be more than happy to fix anything we were responsible for and come out that week, even though at the time we were months out on our schedule. She never replied. Two weeks later we get a check for over $1,000 or 35% of the total project less than what she owed us, the client, for whatever reason, arbitrarily decided that's what she was owed for the issues she thought we caused while simultaneously ignoring our attempt to remedy the situation. As a licensed contractor I was then forced to send a letter of notice for intent to file a lien since we were quickly approaching our 60 days from project completion cut off date for such an action to take place. This is only the 2nd time I've ever had to send a client a notice. In addition we NEVER "threatened" the client with a lien, it's a very poor business practice, in any field, to threaten a client. Threatening implies 'hostile action' which there never was. We simply mailed her a notice asking the client to pay for the work we had completed on her home. At this point the client finally replied to our earnest offer to remedy the issues but after what had already transpired I was afraid to step foot back on the client's property for obvious reasons. We never filed a lien, nor was any lien ever placed on the property. Anyone who knows me or my family also knows the quality of work we do and the precedent that quality takes over any other aspect of the business. I never want a client to have this experience with our company but to anyone who is unhappy with work their craftsman has done please, at least, give them the opportunity to remedy the situation before it reaches an event horizon.
