This is in response to the allegation that JLD Autos, an independent used car dealership, has unrightfully kept a deposit in the amount of $from *** ***. The allegation states that the Client, *** ***, was informed to visit the dealership on a Saturday, and that JLD
Autos did not want to return the deposit after days of holding the car, .JLD Autos did in fact receive a holding deposit for the car, Black, *** Altima, in the total amount of $500. When JLD autos, the dealership, receives holding deposits on vehicles, they are no longer showed to other customers for sale. Because of this, unless otherwise clearly stated in writing, holding deposits are non-refundable. The Client, *** *** states that he was told to come in on a Saturday, which is not possible as all adverts for JLD Autos clearly state the operating hours do not include Saturdays and have been that way for about years. Phone calls are never answered on Saturdays, and has the outgoing voice mail state "that JLD Autos are closed on Saturdays." *** *** visited the dealership Monday, May 25, 2005, the Client was interested in the car and was ready to purchase the vehicle. Vehicle sale was not completed as the client's credit card method of payment is not accepted at JLD Autos. In the four years that JLD Autos has been in business, the dealership has only accepted cash, cashier's checks and even personal checks as valid forms of payment. It was because of this reason that the Client chose to leave a holding deposit on the aforementioned vehicle for the amount of $500. *** *** left the deposit to hold the car for days, to return with the appropriate form of payment, which include cash, cashier's check or personal check. After days had elapsed the Client returned to finish purchasing the vehicle, however *** returned once again with only a credit card as his method of payment. As stated earlier, JLD Autos did not have a method to process that payment, which the client already knew. Due to this reason the owner refused to return the holding deposit, at that point the dealership had already turned away three serious buyers during the two weeks that the car had a holding deposit on it. JLD Autos held up its part of the agreement, but the client did not. The owner went on to give the client another opportunity, an additional hours to bring in the proper form of payment before losing his holding deposit or he could also use the holding deposit towards another car. *** *** declined these options and therefore lost his holding deposit of $on the vehicle

Review: On May 25th 2015 I called JLD Auto to ask about a car and spoke to the owner of the company , [redacted] who gave me the information I needed and told me he would be there that day, but somehow failed to mention they were closed. When I arrived I found his brother, instead of [redacted], who then said they were closed. He showed me the car after saying that [redacted] mentioned I was coming to see it and told me that if I wanted to hold it I would need to leave a $500 deposit and so I did. They dont have a credit card machine so I gave them the $500 in cash. [redacted]'s brothers wife was the one who made me a handmade receipt because the computer was supposedly down. After giving them the deposit I mentioned I would come back Saturday May 30th 2015 to hopefully close the deal with [redacted] and not his brother. That Saturday May 30th I made the trip over there again and it was closed. I spoke to the dealership next door and they said that JLD Auto has been closed on Saturdays for over a year but has been opening on Sunday's, something that started to look sketchy to me. I came back Sunday and finally found [redacted] but decided to cancel the deal and asked for my $500 back but he refused to give it back to me. He made a suggestion that he would bring me the car to my house as soon as I had the rest of the money and only gave me 24 hours to make a decision on whether or not I wanted to buy the car or else I would lose the money.Desired Settlement: I would like to settle this situation according to the law and would like a refund of my 500 dollars.

Review: I bought a vehicle that was obviously not inspected by them very well or at all for the safety inspection and they wont do anything about it.

I purchased a Jeep Liberty as is, but come to find out it had absolutely no oil in the transmission and the spare tire was split and not fixable. We called and explained this to [redacted] that these are included in the safety regulations on a vehicle inspection and we wanted a tire because it is required in the inspection that all tires are to be in good condition. We told him we didn't care about the oil and we just wanted a check for a tire or him to send us a tire beings we live 4 hours away and went down there to purchase a vehicle only. Well [redacted] got mad and refused to give us anything. We would have went to him in person rather than on the phone but we are to far away to drive four hours all for a tire if it was the fact that the transmission blew up then we would talk face to face. Well after that was said he got very angry and rude with us telling us he isn't scared of us and we wouldn't be receiving anything from him and he hung up on us. He was quite rude and he basically told us he gave us a good deal on the vehicle and he didn't think we needed a tire. He also said that they didn't know that the tire was split but when we asked them to put air in it Clayton his brother claimed they didn't have an air compressor to fill the tire.(how do you do a safety inspection on tires if they don't have what they need). All we wanted was a tire with tread and that was going to last because its a safety hazard and it was a full size tire not a little one. He was not nice about the situation even though we told him the transmission oil didn't matter and we just wanted the tire.Desired Settlement: All we ask for is a new or used in good condition tire. That's all we care about for the safety of our family. The oil doesn't even matter anymore.

Review: In May 2013, I purchased a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta from JLD Autos, who purchased the car from an auction out of state. I was concerned about the SMOG passing and the dealer assured me it passed SMOG and showed me a certificate, he did not provide me with a copy, at that time. Shortly after I took possession the check engine light came on in the car. I purchased a code reader and found it to be an emissions problem. I attempted several fixes and the light continued to come on after driving for a while. Since I had just purchased the car I was hoping to avoid the expense of putting on a new catalytic converter. After the car failed the SMOG test this year, I decided to go ahead and replace the catalytic converter. Upon removing the current cat, which was rusted on, I realized there was nothing inside the cat, it was completely empty. I also found the cat was an aftermarket and not CA compliant. The original SMOG should have failed because it lacks the required credentials on the catalytic converter itself. Between that information and the fact that the catalytic converter was nothing more than an empty shell, I realized the dealer and the shop delivering the test most likely falsified the SMOG results and issued a certificate. In doing more research I found the shop administering the certificate, Smog King, had three aborted tests the same day and the fourth test provided a pass.I did approach the dealer with all of this information and asked him for a refund of the car and we would return it to him. I explained since it was a fraudulent transaction I felt it was necessary to not go any further in repairs. I was told by the owner, to go ahead and turn this into DMV, you cant prove I did anything illegal. The cat is stamped - [redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for the auto. The contract should be null and void because of fraud.
