JLH Detail Reviews (1)

Review: I purchased this deal from JLH detail to detail my car with the intent on selling it. I got my car smogged (which lasts 90 days) and was ready to clean and sell my car. I saw this deal on livingsocial and I thought what perfect timing it had been. I was about to pay $189 for a full car detail which included carpet shampoo and headlight restoration. The only problem was I could not locate any reviews on this company nor did they have a file with the Revdex.com. I usually refuse to do business with any company that I cannot verify. However I did purchase the deal based on the strength and reputation of the livingsocial company itself. My first disappointment came when I tried to call and email JLH to schedule a detail. It took [redacted] a week to get back to me just to schedule an appointment. I'm a little frustrated by the slow response due to my limited time frame to sell this vehicle after the smog is completed. However I figure that I will still have plenty of time. I set the appointment for May 25th at 5pm. The gentleman arrived to detail the car promptly at around 5pm. My car was parked in the back of the apartment complex in the shade of my building. The gentleman said this was fine and he didn't need to move the car. I showed him specifically what I needed and told him to make the car look it's best because I am selling it. I also asked him to shampoo the interior out very well. At first he said that the shampoo was not included in the deal I purchased. He quickly changed his mind and said that he would shampoo the inside. I also mentioned the trunk carpet was very dirty and he said he would do that as well. At about 6:30 the gentleman knocked on my door to tell me he is finished. He asked me to check over the car. Immediately upon looking at it I noticed quite a few thing wrong with his work and pointed them out. As I was looking over it and pointing things out he was cleaning them and also finding other things he missed and was cleaning those as well. I mentioned that I would need to shampoo the carpets a second time because I didn't feel that they looked clean. He said to me that any stains left would not come out and that he felt he did a thorough job shampooing the carpets. I was also pointing out random streaks of dirt and grime that he missed everywhere. He stayed for about another half hour doing the things that I pointed out. I came back out to inspect the car, which did seem better the second time around. However, I also paid extra to have my headlights restored and the compound that he used was clumped up on the inside of the headlights. (Which I pointed out to him as well.) I asked him about the cleaning it and he did get a little of it out but a lot of the compound was stuck inside the headlight. (Which they do not do the inside of the headlights.) He only charged me $10 instead of $40 for the headlights since they only mildly looked better. I thanked the gentleman and tipped him and he left. The very next day I went to drive the car out to a corner to display it for sale. Once it was parked in the sunlight I could see crumbs and dirt still everywhere in the nooks and crannies of the car. The inside of the cupholders had soda in them. I specified to the gentleman that the previous owner smoked in the car and to take special care of the ashtrays. The front ashtray was somewhat clean but the back was ignored. Underneath the seats were filthy, there was crumbs in the cracks of the car by the shifter. There was streaks in all of the windows. There was wax residue still left all over the vehicle. The door jams still had footprints and this black streak of grime that I literally removed with my finger. (I have a few pictures that I took of all of this the next day as well.) I brought the car back and payed my roommates 13 yr old daughter to vacuum the interior under the seats and the crevices, as well as Windex all of the windows so I could try to sell this vehicle asap. I also emailed [redacted] (nobody ever answers the phones) to let him know I was not satisfied with the detail job. After about a week of no response from [redacted] again I emailed him a second time and contacted another company [redacted] that I found on Yelp. The man there said that a car detail takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete and that they would need the car the entire day. His rates were $189 for a full detail including the inside & outside of headlights. On the livingsocial deal JLH detail claims that a detail is normally $200 and that you pay $99 and get a promotional value of $101 for a total of $200. On his Facebook page he charges $140 for a full detail. I find this to be false advertising and a scam. Had I know that I was not really getting a full blown $200 detail I would not have done it. I would have spent a little extra to have it done right. [redacted] did finally e-mail me back on June 7th and apologize for taking so long to respond. He offered to send his employee back on Monday June 10th at 1pm. I immediately responded back and said Monday won't work until after 3pm or if Tuesday would work for him. I have not heard back from him since. My smog is now expiring and I am looking to book an appointment to have it re-smogged and re-detailed properly with [redacted] so I can finally get rid of this car. I told [redacted] I was on a deadline and when I could not take Monday at 1pm, and just started ignoring me. He also mentioned that they do a walk around afterwards which is correct, but the car should be done before starting that process. It's like they are trying to see how crappy of a job you will settle for. I want that car as clean as humanly possible. That is what a car detail is. That is what I expect from JLH detail as that is the level of service I have gotten from other companies in the past. I recommend he improve the quality of service he provides his customers, & improve his response time to book appointments and to respond to unsatisfie

I would like my money back. He failed to detail my car and offered a one time chance to get the car detailed. When I was unable to be home at that time he stopped responding to my emails. I am very unhappy with his terrible service.

Consumer's Final Response

I did finally receive a refund of $99.00 from Living Social. This is the majority of the money I paid for this service. The remaining $20 for the failed "headlight restoration" is still outstanding, but I am satisfied with my partial refund. I would like to close this case and mark as resolved. I am not going to spend anymore time chasing after the remaining $20. I appreciate the Revdex.com in helping me resolve this case. Thank you.
