JNW Restoration

Our home was severely damaged by fire May 6, 2013. JnW Restoration LLC of Lake Mills, WI was hired as a sub-contractor by Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling (PD) to complete restoration work on approximately twenty pieces of wood furniture. We were told JnW had completed other restoration furniture work for PD. They highly recommended this firm for our restoration project. We questioned whether some of our badly damaged furniture could be restored. We were told by James of JnW and Paul Davis personnel that we simply weren’t familiar with fire restoration process. JnW assured us that they could bring all pieces to pre-fire condition; explaining that they had the techniques and equipment to do the job!
During an eight month waiting period several e-mails were received from JnW assuring us that restoration was moving along well, but refused allowing us to view the progress with our furniture. Our insurance adjuster told us PD is a “restoration company” and that we needed to trust them. In January 2014 we received communication from JnW that our furniture was being delivered to PD warehouse and that they were able to bring the furniture to pre-fire condition! We were thrilled! Before we could make arrangements to go to the warehouse we received another communication from PD that some, but not all of our furniture, had been delivered and that NOTHING had been done to restore the pieces! We were totally shocked! JnW never contacted us with a rationale of any kind regarding these actions.
We sincerely hope that notifying the Revdex.com of our experience with this company prevents others from this type of challenge.

Review: I asked if a chair could be repaired. I was concerned with the safety of the chair if it was to be repaired since my mother just had hip replacement surgery and I was adamant that if the chair's safety was at all a concern I would just throw it out. I was assured that it would be fine so I paid the $100 to get the leg repaired. The first time it was used by my aunt, it broke immediately and she landed on the floor painfully. I am thankful it wasn't my mother! I sent a letter dated September 9th explaining my dissatisfaction in the repair and asked for a refund and offered him the chair. [redacted] then replied stating he was sorry that it happened and he had told me that the chair should be used for light duty (which was NOT the case, plus how could I know what light duty is?) and said if I signed the letter and returned it he would refund me the $100. I did as he requested. I had not seen the refund so I sent another letter dated November 22nd asking for him to check his account if the check was sent and if it wasn't to please forward to me. I have not heard a response or received a check. Again I would not have spent $100 on a chair repair if I knew it wouldn't be suitable to sit on. He already agreed to refund me the $100 so I don't understand why he wouldn't honor his word.Desired Settlement: I want a $100 refund for the repair.
