Initial Business Response /* (1000, 14, 2015/08/13) */

TO WHOM IT M** CONCERN:
This reply is tardy. I was out of the office the bulk of last week.
Mr. [redacted] presented to my office as a new patient om 6-4-15 complaining about his vision...

decreasing knowing he had cataracts, about double vision with things on top of each other and some dry eye issues.
I spent a great deal of time with him doing an eyeglass refraction and improving his vision and his double vision with a small amount of prism. I did a thorough and complete ophthalmic exam and dispensed the eyeglass prescription and he ordered and charged a pair of glasses. He left pleased with his visit.
Mr. [redacted] stopped at our office late in the afternoon on two occasions to pick up his glasses and we were closed early due to vacations. When he complained we offered to ship the glasses to him with UPS at no charge, which we did, and he explained that he was pleased with this.
We called the patient on 6/26/15 to make sure he had received his glasses and he said he had.
On July 1, 2015 Mr. [redacted] stopped in for our optometrist to adjust his new glasses and to check the prescription as he felt that his vision was not clear enough. We checked the prescription and it was made correctly and he told the optician that he felt his vision was blurry both with each eye and with both eyes open and felt it had something to do with the prism in the right lens to stop the double vision. He was in our office for approximately 45 minutes and left the office very satisified, per the optician, with the outcome of the conversation and the process of scheduling another appointment with him to look again at the glasses with the doctor.
This appointment was scheduled on **gust 3, as a no charge appointment. **out ten days before this appointment Mr. [redacted] called and was verbally abusive about his glasses over the phone. I actually held the phone away from my ear as he was yelling at me. I reminded him he had an appointment coming up to analyze the situation.
On **gust 3 Mr. [redacted] arrived for his appointment. I asked my optician to be in the exam room both to help and to be a witness as this patient had been very temperamental with me om the phone.
**ter about 20 minutes of going back and forth between old glasses ("better" per patient) I proved to him that with his reading distance with old versus new glasses he did better with the new glasses. **so, he admitted that the line doubled with his old glasses and did not with the new (because of the prism).
When it came to reading we discussed the correct reading distance with the old glasses and then the new. When I recommended that he hold the new glasses at the same reading distance that he had held reading material when wearing his old glasses he said, "Dr. B[redacted], you are FULL OF ST!"
My optician and I were greatly offended because we had been very patient and professional. I stood up and said, "Mr. [redacted], we do not talk like that in this office so please leave now." He made same nasty comment back to me and I said, "**d thank you for your gentlemanly behavior" and made sure he left the office.
I did not know if the next thing to happen would be if he would pull out a gun or something. This man is volatile and has severe swings in behavior. He would one minute be really nice and the next explode.
The problem is that he thinks he is an optician and he is not. He thinks he understands how prisms work and in which eye and he does not. He has cataracts that are keeping him from sceing 20/20 (he sees 20/25 and 20/30 which is not bad) and is not reasonable with his expectations.
I refunded his money and discovered that he had paid by credit card and had already reversed the charges on his credit card so I stopped payment on the check I mailed to him.
Our office was extremely reasonable and tried very hard to resolve the issue and he was not.
Very truly yours,
Joanne ** B[redacted] MD

Subject: Re: Revdex.com Complaint Case# [redacted] (Ref#[redacted])
To: [redacted]
To whom it may concern,

Dr. B[redacted] account of the history of our transactions was fairly accurate. However, my complaint was about her complying with her business hours listed, not the unsatisfactory visit as a whole. When I arrived to pick up my glasses, I was limited to the amount of time I had because I was due to perform at [redacted] nursing home. There was a woman being fitted for her glasses when I arrived, so I sat and waited as long as I could. The woman was looking through her new glasses across the office, and seemed distressed. She said, "These are not right." I took it to mean that her prescription was not working for her. I left the office, did my program at [redacted], and returned at 4:10 to find the office locked. They did UPS my glasses to me, and upon finding that the new glasses did not work as well as my old ones, I called and rescheduled an appointment. I did become upset when Dr. B[redacted] tried to convince me that her prescription was correct and tried to tell me that I was holding the reading material at a different distance for my glasses than for the ones she had prescribed. I have written documentation from two other doctors that I have a prism in my left eye, and Dr. B[redacted] told me it was in my right eye. I went to another doctor to get my eyes rechecked, and was informed that my prescription had not changed, and that my current glasses were just fine. I had to laugh when I read the part about Dr. B[redacted] being afraid that I might return with a gun. I have never owned one and never will.

Grace and Peace,
[redacted]
