Joe's Smooth Move Reviews (11)

We only loaded the truck. We didn't pack the boxes or transport the items or unload the truck. They have accused us of price gouging which with an hourly rate is impossible. We only have two charges a hourly rate and a trip charge. She said the wardrobe boxes had been crushed down to a foot high. Which would mean that box had to be empty, right? Just by saying that she is admitting they packed the boxes improperly. YOU FILL THE BOX TO THE TOP, every box.  We gave them 4 moving blankets worth $15-20 each. I quoted the job over the phone, I can only go off what they tell me. The guys advised them that no more items could safely go. They told my guys to kept stacking bikes and ect. on top. Then they thank the guys for all there hard work. [redacted]  I would like my 4 blankets sent back for accusing me of misleading and price gouging.

Hi [redacted],
I feel terrible for your loss. After to talking to [redacted] and [redacted]. They told me they did not have near enough blankets to cover EVERY item in the truck.  They also mentioned that there was a lot of confusion on what items were going. The movers were asked to...

rearrange the truck several times. [redacted] also advised not to load any more but he was told to keep putting things on top. (Bikes and things) We gave away 4 JSM blankets just to help. You are responsible for supplying ALL of the blankets.  You are responsible for all owner packed boxes. That move was a "hourly rate" so you knew exactly what the bill was going to be. We have no hidden charges. I estimated 3-4 hours based on what you told me over the phone. At the end of the move, [redacted] said you even asked for them to go drop off things at Goodwill. Joe's Smooth move only loaded this trailer, we did not transport or unload it. We did not have enough blankets. "Anything you want protected, you need a blanket for it" is what I say over the phone.   I will offer $100 to cover any damages. I would like to get my 4 JSM moving blankets back before I send any payments.

Joe's Smooth Move was incompetent in the handling of our household goods for transport. I was told to purchase 30 moving blankets. I purchased 45, plus there were other blankets, etc. and that should have been more than sufficient. They did not use the tarps and rope I purchased. They did add a couple of their moving blankets at "no charge". Now you're asking us to pay shipping and return them? We were told to keep them. We didn't ask for them. It was [redacted]'s call to use them.  The rearranging of the truck was not at our request, but because [redacted] couldn't decide how to pack everything and kept taking things down and rearranging them as items were brought out of the house. Regarding the hourly rate, we anticipated that it might be a little more than quoted, but almost double the cost was ridiculous, because the crew couldn't decide how to pack the truck, couldn't figure out how to get the fridge out of the house, and took so much more time simply due to their incompetency. Because the truck was loaded improperly, we had to leave things behind. If it was loaded properly those items should have fit; however because we were leaving the state that day we did ask how much it would cost to have them drop off the items at Goodwill. The charge was more than we were willing to pay, so we made other arrangements. Regarding the exercise bike at the end, I told them not to stack it up on top of other things, but it was left there, and strangely enough it didn't cause any damage. Much  of the damage was from the front of the truck. Using wardrobe boxes to support furniture was just ridiculous, as they were smashed to less than 1 ft, and the furniture was damaged for numerous reasons. They weren't even going to shink wrap the white sofa, until I insisted. We also had to pay extra for the additional linear feet of the truck, because they didn't get it loaded with enough room to have the bulkhead put in. The bottom line is that we have extensive damage due to improper loading. Very disappointed in the use of Joe's Smooth Move.

The response from Joe's Smooth Move has  been disappointing and unprofessional. Throwing accusations at us will do nothing to resolve the problem. Asking us to return moving pads that were given to us doesn't even address the complaint or the damages that occurred. For the record, I was a Certified Moving Consultant with the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA). I worked for a national van line for many years, and part of my job was to develop training to teach workers how to pack for cross country moves.  I assure you I took even more care with my own belongings. Nothing was packed improperly. The issue here is that our household goods were LOADED improperly. We did not accuse Joe's Smooth Move of price gouging. It is a fact that loading the truck took much longer than expected due to the inefficiency of the crew. I have attached a few photos of some of the damages. The wardrobe boxes were packed properly---- they are a large, sturdy box with a steel hanging bar for clothing. We filled them, and put padding down the sides. To have them smashed this much indicates that too much weight was placed on top of them. We had to cut them just to remove our clothing.  I have moved more than 20 times, and am an expert packer. I understand that some damages occur in nearly all cross country relocations; however I've never had extensive damage like this in any previous move. My antique desk was crushed because it was turned upside down and heavy items placed on the inside drawer. Almost every piece of furniture was damaged in some way. Our new bedroom set wasn't just scratched, there are huge gouges, which make it irreparable. We provided more than 40 new moving pads, and additional blankets, etc. The crew said nothing about needing additional pads; however they told me when I paid them that they gave me some of their old pads at no charge, and other than that, they had enough. I asked if we were expected to return those pads or pay for them. The crew leader said no. Also, we did not tell them to keep loading things on top when the crew advised us to stop. In fact, I asked them to take down that exercise bike that was on top of our glass entertainment center. They didn't. As stated previously, we had used Joe's Smooth Move before with good results; however the new "crew" was improperly trained and inept at loading a truck.  I'm pretty sure that crew is  not going to say any of this was their fault. We hired Joe's Smooth Move in good faith to carefully load our belongings, and suffered extensive damages as a result. Again, we are asking for a full refund, which is minor compared to the damages we suffered. If they continue to offer no resolution, I do hope the Revdex.com will let others know to be careful in hiring them.

Review: Joe's Smooth Move packed a moving truck for our cross-country move from Maricopa, AZ to Saginaw, MI. We had used them before with excellent results, however they sent a new crew who caused us EXTENSIVE damage to our household goods due to improper packing of the truck and poor handling of the furnishings, etc. [redacted] was the crew leader and should not be in this business. It took an extra 1.5 hours just to get the refrigerator out of the house, and the actual charges were double what [redacted] had quoted us. They were unable to get everything on the truck, and what did get loaded was loaded so badly, that almost all furniture was damaged in some way, along with numerous boxes, etc. The wardrobe boxes were smashed to less than 1 ft. tall. Although boxes were packed carefully with paper and bubble wrap, almost every box had broken glassware, dishes, etc. I have moved many times and NEVER had this type of damage. This crew was absolutely inept.Desired Settlement: Charges were quoted as $350 to $400 maximum. We were charged $725, and have extensive damage. A full refund is requested.

Regards,

agreed to have a 3 man crew, only 2 showed up. Wasn't that big of a deal at the time, and the other worker (not **) was very nice and hard working. I was even lectured once by ** for stacking chairs by his moving truck as I was following the lead of his assistant. The day after our move, we realized that one of our sofas was damaged and not working property, not even able to recline or sit in. I think it's realistic to expect that possibly this sort of thing wouldn't be noticed the day of the move because who isn't running around constantly trying to unpack the day after a move? As soon as I realized this, I called and left 2 voicemails for **. I finally received a call back from **, and could barely even explain the situation, I really just wanted to bring it to his attention and see what needed to be done from there. He accused me of lying and trying to swindle him out a new couch? he kept interrupting me and was agressive over the phone. He then agreed to come to my house the next day and look at the couch, and then hung up on me. After discussing with my wife, we decided that we did not want to conduct any more business with this company as not only were we insulted by him questioning our integrity, but that our new course was to take care of this ourselves, and make sure we let as many people know what our experience was. I called ** back and let him know that I would not need him to come to my house the next day to look at the sofa and we would take care of this matter without his assistance. I also told him that I would make sure to tell everyone that I could about my experience, primarily the people I worked with who had referred him to me. I am shocked that he is in business if this is the way he treats his customers, especially referrals from his customers. My family well enough off that we don't need to "swindle' people out of a sofa.
