The customer did not ask for written estimate and/or contractThe customer was advised that any permit required was their responsibilityThe customer's original request was to remove the top portion of the existing stair base and build new structure over existingUpon commencement of the job it
became clear that the entire structure would need removing which the customer ultimately did himselfUpon completion of the initial framing and decking, the railing pricing issue came to light and work ceasedContractor did attempt to assist with pricing error on supplier's end by calling and talking to Excelsior lumberContractor met with customer and his wife on a Saturday to discuss the aesthetic issues brought to lightThere were several options discussed and customer told contractor that they would be in touchNext communication, was that the customer did not want contractor back at the jobTherefore the contractors offer to work with the customer to resolve the issues mentioned and finish the job to be complete, i.ethe items mentioned that were not done, could not be accomplishedFinally, the contractor replaced the rotted box with same material that was in place

Of course we requested a contract which we were told would be supplied to us but *** *** never brought us oneWe were always at work when he showed up and this issue never was resolvedThe Contractor should always give contracts to any consumer so their response stating we didn't request one is ridiculousWe did ask John not to come back because of the poor job he did on our porch and stairsHe was completely paid in full and didn't finish the job which was our choice since we were unhappy with his workWe hoped never to deal with this company again but when we had other contractors come to give us prices to finish what John Gindhart started we found out that improper materials where used on our homeWe needed to have it torn down and redone with the correct materialsOnly then did we contact this company to advise what we had learned and wanted our money backI spoke with the contractors wife and explained all this to herShe told me she would speak to her husband and get back to meLater that day she sent me an email asking for more money to come back and continue the work or we could just hire another contractor and call it a washHowever that is really not the point of this complaintWe asked for a job to be done and they did a job using bad materials and they don't even careThey took our money and just moved onThis is insane and they should be held accountable for thisNever did John Gindhart advise us to get the permitThat is another lie told by John Gindhart ContractingThe contractor is doing the job, gets the permit and does the job to code so if there is any issue they know how to handle the situation since they are the ones doing the job not the homeownerWe were under the impression per John Gindhart that this was part of the $we paid but when WE checked with the town and found out they did not get a permit, I asked John's wife why no permit was pulled, she was at a loss for words, then said she wasn't aware one wasn't pulled and they said it was on us to get the permitA contractor should never begin a job unless a permit was in place, which he did not doThey pretend to get permits and pocket the moneyThis company should be penalized for misleading the homeowners. We want our money backWe had to pay to have what John Gindhart did ripped down and properly reinstalled which we should not have had to do if John did the job correct to begin withIf he didn't know what he was doing, he should never have taken this job to begin withThis company takes peoples money and walks awayThis is so wrong. Of course we requested a contract which we were told would be supplied to us but [redacted] never brought us one. We were always at work when he showed up and this issue never was resolved. The Contractor should always give contracts to any consumer so their response stating we didn't request one is ridiculous. We did ask John not to come back because of the poor job he did on our porch and stairs. He was completely paid in full and didn't finish the job which was our choice since we were unhappy with his work. We hoped never to deal with this company again but when we had other contractors come to give us prices to finish what John Gindhart started we found out that improper materials where used on our home. We needed to have it torn down and redone with the correct materials. Only then did we contact this company to advise what we had learned and wanted our money back. I spoke with the contractors wife and explained all this to her. She told me she would speak to her husband and get back to me. Later that day she sent me an email asking for more money to come back and continue the work or we could just hire another contractor and call it a wash. However that is really not the point of this complaint. We asked for a job to be done and they did a job using bad materials and they don't even care. They took our money and just moved on. This is insane and they should be held accountable for this. Never did John Gindhart advise us to get the permit. That is another lie told by John Gindhart Contracting. The contractor is doing the job, gets the permit and does the job to code so if there is any issue they know how to handle the situation since they are the ones doing the job not the homeowner. We were under the impression per John Gindhart that this was part of the $4500 we paid but when WE checked with the town and found out they did not get a permit, I asked John's wife why no permit was pulled, she was at a loss for words, then said she wasn't aware one wasn't pulled and they said it was on us to get the permit. A contractor should never begin a job unless a permit was in place, which he did not do. They pretend to get permits and pocket the money. This company should be penalized for misleading the homeowners.

We want our money back. We had to pay to have what John Gindhart did ripped down and properly reinstalled which we should not have had to do if John did the job correct to begin with. If he didn't know what he was doing, he should never have taken this job to begin with. This company takes peoples money and walks away. This is so wrong.

I have his wife's email and my response to it if you would like to review them. She has not responded to my email to date.
Please help us get a fair resolution to this issue.

Very unsatisfied with the work done by this company. Everything they touched was not done properly. Have tape lines through sheetrock, nail heads through sheetrock, tiles unevenly spaced, broken tiles put in, doors that dont close properly, electrical problems, switch boxes sticking out of wall, high hats installed in wrong places, molding put in wrong and not caulked. Complete half [redacted] job. Could have done a better job myself.
