Review: In 2013 I hired John Hussain of Champion Construction as my contractor to make repairs to my home that was severely damaged from Hurricane Sandy. The agreed upon price was $115,000 of which I paid him a total of $90,000. I paid him $3000 of the $90,000 in cash and he refuses to give me a receipt. When I made the payment that brought the total to $90,000 we agreed that I would pay him the balance of $25,000 upon completion of the job.

It has now been over two and a half years and not one room nor is the outside of my house completed.

He hired an unlicensed electrician to do work on my house. The electrician’s helper robbed my house. The electrician did not complete the work and the wiring was worse that it was after Rapid Repair rewired my first floor. I had no power to three upstairs rooms, and it appeared that all the outlets on the first floor were attached to only one breaker which tripped when two items were plugged in and in use. The furnace that Rapid Repair installed and was working was no longer working due to an electrical problem caused by the electrician hired by contractor. When I spoke to my contractor he stated that he is not responsible for the work that the electrician did. When my contractor did not properly address this situation I hired an electrician to make the necessary electrical repairs.

Also, since the furnace was not working, water in the furnace caused the furnace to crack and the pipes to freeze and burst. When my contractor stated that he was not responsible for that either I hired a plumber to replace the furnace and repair the pipes.

About two weeks ago my contractor finally answered his phone after a week of me leaving messages asking why he stopped working on my house. He stated that I need to give him the balance of $25,000 plus an undesignated amount of money for kitchen cabinets and $1350 for storage of the kitchen cabinets.

I reminded him of our agreement and he told me that if I don’t pay him in full he is not working on my house anymore. And he told me that I am in breach of contract for not paying him in full since he said he is going to finish the work.

I would like him to either finish the work, or pay me back the majority of the $90,000 so I could hire another contractor to finish the work.

Also, the contractor requested a meeting to be held on Dec [redacted] 2015, to be mediated by a representative from Senator Martin Golden’s office.

I attended the meeting and the contractor was a no-show. When called by the representative he said he forgot.Desired Settlement: I would like him to either finish the work, or pay me back the majority of the $90,000 so I could hire another contractor to finish the work.
