John Kolosso Motors, Inc Reviews (1)

Review: I was leaving for Florida in a few days and I asked my husband to take my car in and have the oil changed. The car was in perfect working condition. Kolosso changed the oil and said the oil pan was stripped. They offered a butterfly plug that was unreliable and often leak, or to replace the oil pan at a cost of over 600 dollars. Because I was leaving for Florida I needed a reliable fix so we chose to have the oil pan replaced. In researching the problem after returning from Florida I became aware that it was Kolosso that stripped the oil pan. They did all the repairs on the car in the two years that I have lived in the area including all of the oil changes. They are responsible for the failure, as they are the only one that ever touched the oil pan. In addition I looked into the charges for the oil pan. They charged 394.00 for the oil pan but you can purchase the same oil pan on the internet (a genuine mopar part, NOT an imitation) for between 268.19 and 290.00. Again they charged almost 400 dollars for the same part. Then they charged 209.90 for labor. To put an oil pan on? It has no moving parts and it was already drained of oil. The oil part was covered in the oil change. We checked and there was nothing in the way, they only had to unbolt the old one and bolt the new one it. I would bet it took far less time than rotating tires, and they don't charge 200 dollars to rotate tires. (I should note that Kolosso did give us a 10% discount while they listed the part at 394.00 they only charged us 354.60 for the oil pan, still almost 100 dollars more than we could have purchased it at retail and 188.91 for the labor)

Kolosso did give us and estimate and we did agree to go through with the repair. This is true. That does not give them to right to overcharge us or change the fact that they were the only ones to touch the car in the past two year and had a hand in the oil pan being stripped. Research indicates that the most probable cause for the oil pan to be stripped was that they cross threated the drain plug and stripped it. Regardless of how it happened Kolosso was the only one to touch the car in two years. The car was essentially a hostage. There was no oil in it, we could not take it anywhere else and we needed the car right away to drive it to Florida. We felt we had no choice but to have the only reliable repair offer done. We didn't research the issue before we left because we trusted these people. They had serviced the car for two years. Now of course I wonder about everything that was done to the car in the past, but I am not going to go there. I started researching the issue because I couldn't believe the cost of the repair. I could find no one who thought the dealership behaved in an appropriate manner. I found only one other person who had this problem with their car and it was fixed by a Milwaukee dealership at no charge to the customer.Desired Settlement: I feel the entire repair cost should be refunded.

Response:

I am writing in reference to 10# [redacted]. Our records indicate the vehicle was first serviced at our

dealership in 2011 with mileage being 109,486. With that said, it is safe to say our dealership was not

the only dealership to perform every oil change during the life of the vehicle. It is also safe to say this

repair, although unfortun ate, is not uncommon as the drain plug/oil pan is subject to wear and tear

with each and every oil change.

Understanding the customers' frustration with pricing, we were able to offer different options for repair,

a 10% discount on parts and labor and a complementary rental vehicle while the repairs were being

completed. After explanation of the repairs and the cost, the customer did indeed authorize the

replacement of Ihe oil pan. We as a dealership are not able to control Chrysler pricing and labor time, as

both are standard specifications set by the manufacturer and aftermarket community.

We would like to again, express our apologies to the customer for any misunderstanding.
