Leaks on Patio
I had a alumawood patio installed in 2019. We have had several leaks. I have sent pictures and videos. I have never seen him personally and even had to get my own building permit. Now this week we have 3 leaks. 2 over the sitting area by the joists. One is a large one that pours down over our sitting area. Sent video to him be email. Always a problem getting responses from the start. Emails and phone calls go unanswered. This was sloppy work from the start. I want this fixed ASAP.

This letter is in response to the customer response regarding the Revdex.com customer review, ID# [redacted]. The original customer complaint was in regards to a leak from a window under the patio cover that our company had built in 2009. In June of 2014, we dispatched a technician to assess the leak and whether or not it was caused by the patio cover. In addition, we arranged and on-site meeting with the manufacturer rep of the product used, in October of 2015. After that meeting took place, it was determined by the product rep that the patio cover was installed correctly no apparent issue, and we had requested that the home owner provide bids from three specialists, in order to assess what was actually causing the leak. Since then, the owner has provided us with one opinion from a local company, but they barely refers to the leaking issue, if at all. It does, however suggest that the patio cover pans are over spanned, and there is reference to some engineering. However, the engineering that is mentioned was not the correct engineering or what was used at the time the cover was built. We have attached the engineering that was current during the buildings of the cover, which shoes a maximum panel span of 18’-9”, and that we had built the cover to code. In addition, we had a permit issued for this patio cover and had received a final inspection with the Tehama County Building Department, which passed and also strongly suggests that our cover was built and installed correctly. Therefore, it is not necessary to replace the roof of this patio cover, which brings us back to the original complaint regarding the window leak. In an email from the local company who assessed the cover for the home owner, they said themselves that: “the leak itself does not look too horrible and after this inspection we are fairly confident that there will not be that much damage in the walls. Without being able to see into the wall I cannot tell you for sure and this will have to be a time and material issue when we expose the areas of concern. There is no sign of bubbling drywall or paint peeling off the walls, these are all very good signs.” (Reference email on pg. 1, lines 15-18). This statement reiterates the fact that until the issue is exposed, there is no way to tell that the leaking is caused by the patio cover. In closing, Stout Construction has been contacted by so many different entities that any attempts at response have become very convoluted between so many parties; and aside from contact during the cover installation, we have not yet had any direct contact with the owner of the home; and furthermore we are unsure as to who the current home owner is. In the future, we would consider coming out to resolve any issues if we could deal with only one party, preferably the home owner. Thank you,[redacted]

This letter is in response to the customer review submitted on September 4th, 2015. Stout Construction did install a patio cover for the customer in November of 2009.  Stout Construction warranties all workmanship for 36 months except for sealants which is warranted for up to one year; after...

which the manufacturer provides a lifetime transferrable warranty for the product, excluding sealants. In June of 2014, five years after the date of installation, the customer contacted Stout Construction and stated that they had a window leak from one of the widows directly under the cover our company had built. After receiving the customer call, Stout Construction dispatched a service technician to look at the issue. In addition, we arranged a meeting with representative of our product and the customer. At both the time of service call as well as at the second meeting, our company and our product representative concluded that the patio cover was installed correctly and with no apparent issues at this time. In conjunction, the Tehama County Building Department signed off on the project and the passed the final inspection for the job permit. In order to resolve this issue we are doing all we can for the customer, and we are currently waiting for a written review form the customer’s three specialists to help decide what will be the best way to move forward with resolving this customer’s issue.

Review: We have been calling Stout Construction for months and months leaving messages with [redacted] to have John return our call because the patio cover his company installed is leaking. John has changed his cell phone number since he installed the cover; that new cell phone number is apparently secret as [redacted] will not allow us to have it. We have been put off, dismissed, hung up on and told we were rude, ignored, and disregarded. John Stout got his money for installation and has now become permanently unavailable! We have been trying to get someone to come out and repair the leak but they are non-responsive. [redacted] repeatedly tells us that when jobs are scheduled on sunny days, we'll get a call. No call, no scheduled job, nothing.Desired Settlement: FIX THE LEAK!

Review: We had John Stout construction install a patio cover on our vacation home in Red Bluff. The patio cover has leaked since it was installed. We called to ask them to come and fix it. They came out one time and put some caulking on the issue, but never fixed the incorrect installation. This has caused water to run down the wall going into the windiw. We have window experts and general contractors that told us it's NOT a window issue. The patio cover was installed wrong. We have called Jon Stout several times to come and fix the problem. He REFUSES to fix it or even return our phone calls. We want Jon Stout to stand behind work.Desired Settlement: We want Jon Stout to stand behind his work! We want our patio cover fixed! This is NOT acceptable.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Jon Stout installed our patio cover wrong. He didn't put flashing behind the bolts that go into the stucco. This causes water to leak down one of the windows. We have had four licensed contractors come inspect Jon Stouts work and they have ALL said this was an installation issue. Jon Stout did come out and slop some caulking up that deferred the water for a minute. Then the same issue has happened again. We have been in a drought so it didn't really leak until we have downpours. We called several times for Stout to come and fix his shoty work. He refuses to call us back. We even offered to pay him and he refused to come fix our patio cover. No other licensed contractor will fix it, because they don't want to take on the liability because it's an installation issue. Jon Stout has HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. He doesn't stand behind his work. I'm appalled the better buisness bureau would recommend this shister! He only wants money for new installs and refuses to fix his existing patio covers.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Every contractor has said this is an INSTALL issue. This patio cover was installed incorrectly. I have personally spoken to Jon Stout. He said he would be avaliable to talk to [redacted] the next day from 2-4 pm. Jon Stout never answered his phone or returned several messages. Jon Stout is dishonest. Yes, there was a permit issued through Tehama county. The building inspectors don't have x-ray eyes. They don't get on the roof to inspect the install. They trust a licensed contractor knows how to install a simple patio cover correctly. Jon Stout doesn't stand behind his work. The Revdex.com needs to hold this contractor accountable and not allow him to get away with this. We want out patio cover fixed properly! We Paid a lot of money for this crappy work. Jon Stout needs to be honest and stop his non sense. If he cared about customer service, this issue would have been fixed a LONG time ago and we would be happy customers.
